Mysterious bodies are found under one of the world’s most famous cathedrals.

Why did they remove the organs and put plants or flowers in them . It’s hard to believe that they knew Egyptians did this to their royalty and so why did they do the same?

03:22 Human-Shaped Sarcophagi Found Under Notre Dame

10:00 Unveiling Skeletons from the Lead Coffins

While the fire was unfortunate I think it was meant to happen and these discoveries were meant to be rediscovered. While I do not agree with exhuming bodies unless absolutely necessary. I am happy to know that one day these will be reburied, unlike with Egyptian tombs that are put on display at museums. Fascinating yes, but I feel it is wrong. It would be like if one of your grandparents was exhumed and then put on display. It is not right for anyone of any age or level whether lower class or upper class.

27:58 Analyzing the John Doe Skull

I understand the importance of history, but…… if my spirit finds out in 400 years that someone dug me up and fucked with my body, I’m going to be pissed off. Still a weird concept overall. I shouldn’t but, they are French so I will have to also take this into consideration as well.

40:35 Identifying the Unknown Skeleton

😂 Contaminate the remains of the dead, how about contaminating the LIVING because you are opening this stuff??

Care more about the dead (sort of) than the living, checks out. 😂

Interesting timing of the fire. I don't know just feels off.

Why destroy such beauty?

Yeah, I think a lot of people are asking the same question about this and other things?

(Can't tell people you have to destroy the old to bring in the new because they would freak out to find out..)

IF dna is as accurate as it is claimed to be.. 😂

DNA requires documentation of peoples lives, not everyone, a whole lot of people don't have documentation.

Especially the poor and peasantry of the time.

Documentation didnt work the same way back then and all the fires, yeah I have a lot of questions about the accuracy of DNA.

They cant even get history right and you expect us to believe that DNA is the end all be all of truth. 😂

Especially with how easily it is contaminated!

How easy dna is spread and transferred. Yeah you spread your DNA everywhere you go, it's already contaminated!

I don't know why this bothers me the way it does.
Seems like they do not care at all about potential viruses and plauges they might unleash messing with this stuff, nah, it will just be blamed on the poor if that happens.
People will believe it will be the poors fault too, they would never believe it came from people messing with stuff like this.

Too much demonic practices at the cathedral. Even furnitures and paintings were demonic.

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode of NOVA. Fascinating. But it still seems a bit sacrilegious of them to destroy the choir screen and bury it.

@

why can't americans pronounce notre dame properly??

@Richardwrightpainter
@

I know this is a late reply to this video. But I think that the record should be set straight here for future visitors. It's said that an angle grinder was used to open the lead casket. That tool was in fact actually, called an electric shear. Specifically an electric double cut shear. It's easy to use, control, and the mess is a lot safer to manage as it's a thin metal strip. It also distorts the material being cut the least making it the best tool for the job here.

@CecilMerrell
@

A tremendous amount of toxic lead was released by the fire. Please don't call a nibbler an angle geinder.

@george2113
@

11:56 This is most definitely not an angle grinder, but a sheet nibbler.
12:52 Now, THAT's an angle grinder.

@19Edurne
@

In Russian language there’s a saying: luck wouldn’t came, but trouble helped. Without fire we would miss these amazing discoveries.

Je pense qu'il ya bcp plus à dire de Notre Dame. Stp plus des documentales sur Notre Dame ❤❤❤

Bellissima scoperta delle tombe dell'incendio, meglio restaurare i morti, le statue e i mobili!❤

now if they only had bothered to learn the pronunciation of Nôtre Dame...

@evanherk
@

Why aren't these guys wearing gloves when reading these old books?

@glenglishglenglish5913
@

I already saw this documentary, but I’m watching it again. NOVA is the best.

@normagrimstad8869
@

Learn to pronounce NOTRE correctly !

@elgar57
@

so if they demolish it then they will find more treasures. So they should buldoze it.

@user-yr4mo3iz4d
@

That's not an angle grinder

@notyourgrandmascrafts
@

It’s pronounced “Norte Dame — Dam as in Wham”: NOT “Norte Dame — as in game”. If a program is intended to educate, then the pronunciation of the words are important.

@margotdarragh3576
@

Did they try dna testing?

@EnyalienMini
@

11:55 - Absolutely NOT an Angle Grinder. It's an Electric Metal Cutting Shear. But 12:07 - That is an Angle Grinder, but using cut off wheel.

@Sam-nh5xb
@

It was not just a cathedral she was the heart of Paris wars came and went she remained, reminding everyone that one day France will rise again

@philomenaquinn1158
@

They can justify opening a sealed coffin any way they like. In the end it's pure curiosity. It's human nature.

@JayGideon-7
@

that was nibbler not a angle grinder

@bringmeblueskies
@

There is nothing holy about the church, the church is like a bank it takes in money and keeps the money for itself. It even help the Nazis so what does that say

@GerBourke
@

The money they are wasting their could be served better feeding some of the poor of the planet😢😢😢😢 humans thay just think of Greed.

@GerBourke
@

Who cares it's just old rubbish look what the church has done to billions of Innocent children😢😢😢

@GerBourke
@

It's wrong to disturb human remains and treat them in such a way.

@MovingOndaisy

Cremation is best that way nobody can do this to you after you're dead.

The thing that makes me cry hardest is how there's Windows11 on all these computers, and how non eof it is even remotely set up for its user.
As a tech support who was highly invested in Win11 when it came out, this hurts my heart.

An excellent show, Nova. Thank you ever so much. An educational and extremely visual turn of work, thanks again, and keep on keeping on y'all.

@pedrowallace100

Well? Like the Vatican, I have no religious affection for churches, but I do respect the history and the art history they present to us in a modern day.

@rathertiredofthemess2841
@

I don't feel so sad about watching Notre Dame burning on TV in 2020 now what beautiful finds 🙏 hopefully the cathedral will last forever after the renovations now too.

@louisep5178
@

How was this all paid for?

@susandemetry7158
@

An entire documentary and you still can't pronounce notre😅

@maurar5548
@

Excellent program! And there's every reason to believe that you could easily compete with non-government funded documentaries at this level of detail. And this is a very important point, because, as an American taxpayer, I don't believe it's the federal government's job to pay for this programming, even if it is as excellent as this. Nothing personal, but the Corporation for Public Broadcasting needs to be funded by monies from the private sector.
