@RedphyveThis is an aside, but how is it still possible that so many football fans don’t understand what the offside rule is? It’s not that complicated. When I was a kid there was a long-standing (misogynist) “joke” that women didn’t understand the offside rule. It was in an advert or something playing on this when I was a kid. But anyway, it’s not a difficult rule to understand. It’s been slightly revised in my lifetime, but the gist is if you’re in front (attacking) of the last defender (and not active or affecting play) when the ball is played forward then you’re offside. It’s not a horribly complicated or abstract idea to comprehend. It’s not like trying to grasp the basic concept of what James Joyce was trying to get at in Ulysses (which was a basic concept but made entirely unnecessarily complex, which is why I’m using it as a counter example. Fuck’s sake, Joyce! Woolf summed up a day elegantly and complexely but in an understandable way, but it took you 600 pages more to do the same thing and make it fucking unreadable?!. Personal rant. Fucking English literature class…). Anyway, it’s not a complicated concept but everyone seems to James Joyce it.
