The action takes place on the greek island of Andros, where Orsa, 20 years old, and her younger sister, Moscha, live. Orsa is deeply in love with Spyros Matabes, a lieutenant, but she has never revealed her secret to anybody. Their mother considers love to be a trouble and, overriding their emotions, wants her daughters to make wealthy marriages. As a result, Orsa marries captain Nikos Vatokouzis, and Moscha to Spyros Matabes, a captain now with whom her sister is in love.

i just watched this movie after 9 years when i first saw it..there are scenes that stuck with me since then but here i am again being speechless! one of my favorite movies with peak cinema moments, that scream will haunt me forever and ever, a cathartic masterpiece <3

Just finished watching the film, Little England. Wow! Talk about Greek drama. I am 68 and the first generation of Greek immigrants to grow up in the states. The rest of my relatives stayed in Greece. Mom and Dad's home was Andros, Greece. I had the great pleasure of visiting relatives there for 3 summers in my youth. Much of my time was spent on Andros. My one aunt lived near the far end of Chora where some of the film was shot near the statue of the unknown sailor, and the two beaches on either side of Chora named, Nimborio and Paraporti. Nimborio was not developed or visited by tourists. Just beach and beautiful clean water. Mostly pebbles with some sand and a strong undertow. Would get windy sometimes though. Spent many hot summer days, riding the family donkey down along the dried river bed to the beach and hanging out with my cousins. Those times where some of the best experiences of my life. Talk about culture shock. This was the early 60's. These island areas still had many people living without running water or electricity and very few cars (or roads). Some did not have phones or tvs either. Yet they were healthy, clean and strong. A very passionate and opinionated lot! The film really hit home on many levels almost like watching one of my family videos. And the social and cultural norms depicted were so right on for the time. Great acting, cinematography and script.

@Nuli378Best Halloween Memory of 2020. I dropped acid and chose to watch this film because I was hanging on my bathtub, holy crazy balls I got so hooked into the movie that I forgot the bath water got cold and splashed the water while watching the seafaring scenes.
