Dear Friend,
I hope this letter finds you well. I’ve been meaning to write to you for a while, and today, with a cup of coffee in hand and the soft hum of Miles Davis’ trumpet drifting through the room, I feel inspired to share something close to my heart: my deep, unshakable love for jazz music. It’s more than just a genre to me—it’s a living, breathing art form that has woven itself into the fabric of my life, coloring my days with its unpredictable beauty and soul-stirring depth.
Jazz came into my life almost by accident, like stumbling upon a hidden treasure. I remember the first time I truly heard it—not just as background noise, but as something that demanded my full attention. It was a rainy evening, and I was flipping through old records at a secondhand shop when I found a worn copy of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme. I took it home, placed it on the turntable, and as those first notes of “Acknowledgement” filled the room, I was transfixed. The music wasn’t just sound; it was a conversation, a prayer, a journey. Coltrane’s saxophone seemed to speak directly to my soul, weaving a story of struggle, hope, and transcendence. That moment was a revelation, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.
What I love most about jazz is its freedom. Unlike other genres that often follow rigid structures, jazz is a rebellion against constraint. It’s the sound of musicians breaking free, improvising, and creating something new in the moment. When I listen to a live recording of, say, Thelonious Monk plucking those angular, off-kilter notes on the piano, I can almost feel the electricity of his creativity. It’s as if he’s saying, “Forget the rules—let’s see where this takes us.” That spontaneity is intoxicating. No two performances are ever the same, and that unpredictability keeps me coming back, eager to hear what story the music will tell next.
Jazz is also a language of connection. It’s incredible to think about how this music, born in the African American communities of New Orleans, has traveled the world, speaking to people across cultures and generations. When I listen to Ella Fitzgerald’s velvety voice or Duke Ellington’s sophisticated arrangements, I feel connected to a lineage of artists who poured their hearts into their craft. Jazz carries history—stories of joy, pain, resilience, and rebellion. It’s the sound of late-night jam sessions in smoky clubs, of civil rights anthems, of moments when people came together to create something beautiful despite the odds. When I put on Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit,” I’m not just hearing a song; I’m bearing witness to a powerful statement about injustice, delivered with a haunting grace that still gives me chills.
There’s also something deeply personal about jazz. It’s not a genre that hands you everything on a platter. It asks you to listen, to engage, to bring your own emotions and experiences to the table. Some days, when I’m feeling restless, I’ll turn to Charlie Parker’s frenetic bebop, his saxophone darting and weaving like a bird in flight. Other times, when I need solace, I’ll sink into the melancholic beauty of Bill Evans’ piano on Waltz for Debby. Jazz meets you where you are, reflecting your mood or challenging you to feel something new. It’s like a friend who always knows what to say—or when to just sit with you in silence cont'd below

In 2025, due to model-generated music, I picked up the habbit of only using BGM with either a distinct track list or from a few years ago. Classic soundatracks don't age and need our support more than ever.
