Isn’t it supposed to be international ? I’m surprised that you assign totally different sounds to the letters that the sounds we assign in Europe… ??

Thanks for Watching

Anna ❤ 🇬🇧

Two or three month since my first watch. I think of this video as my started with IPA. Now going back to it I noticed the pronunciation of the word "pet" is correct, but I think the IPA displayed in the video has the wrong symbol for the vowel sound in "pet". I just noticed

This was such a clear explanation of the IPA rules! For anyone who needs to do this for long paragraphs and wants to save time on formatting, I actually built a specialized tool called Phonetic Formatter. It automates the transcription into a structured word-by-word layout that you can export to Word/PDF. Hope it helps someone here!

found myself here after noticing how easily understood phonemic spelling was to me
does the /ɛ:/ sound in "her" change to reflect the accent change from UK to US?

You're missing the aspirated and applosive consonants, but you did pretty well. To your credit, you're teaching sounds and English more than teaching the IPA.

What about a vowel with two dots (umlaut-esque) over it? Such as an a with two dots over it? I'm trying to pronounce buaze. And it's written phonetically /b/ /a with two dots over it/ /z/ /e with straight line over it/. I THINK the e with straight line is "EE" as in "slEEk." But not sure about a with two dots over it? Thnx for your help.

A lot of college students in China can read English just fine, but when it comes to speaking, they can’t really do it.
I honestly dream of being able to speak fluent English — to really talk with people, not just understand what they say.
Thank you so much for all your help and support. It means a lot❤
