Las Vegas locals' casinos thrive amid tourism slump

I go to south point because they have the good slot machines still unlike these lame machines that these casinos are putting in over the last 3 years, free parking, vegas feel environment, and most, but not all things that made me enjoy vegas. I'm done with my time here in Vegas now after all of this bs

You make more money when there is a price point that everyone can afford. When there are options for rich people while still having decent prices for normal folks

The best way to visit the strip these days is fly into the airport… rent an airport locker… change into homeless attire… then wander your way along the strip. Just sleep on any sidewalk, pee on any corner, shower in any casino bathroom sink, and SAVE TONS of money.

I go the South point at least twice a month for the buffet as a local here in Vegas

I love local casinos I’d rather stay there than the strip and I’m from Maryland. Mostly for the better gambling rules

Usually go to LV every other year. I refused to go this year unless we stayed at a local casino. Family didn’t want to so we opted not to go. With all the media coverage they all agreed I was right. We can afford the cost, but it’s simply not a good value for what you get. We still traveled, just not to LV.

We stopped going to Vegas because of the price. We go to Lake Tahoe now. The gambling is just as good and its a better vacation.

No reason for people to fly to Vegas when they can easily go to local casino without paying fees on top of fees.

Isn't only an 11% drop in tourism? I'm sure that's a lot, but with all the price gouging the hotels / casinos have done over the years, they should have a healthy warchest to weather the storm. As for these casinos that cater to locals - Congratulations on the success as a result of treating your customers well.

Thank god the locals are doing well. You can't find a room at CT's Mohegan Sun Casino for less than $450. a night.

Southpoint is the closest to old Vegas. We have had a timeshare at Grandview next door and I live at Southpoint as that is the place I go every day when I am in Vegas. Sixteen movie theatres that are reasonably to go attend. Reasonable shows. A great reasonable buffet. Lots to see in the areanas. I can go on and on. It is the Casino to go to. Always lots happening at Southpoint. Thanks Southpoint from a Grandview owner since 2007.

Yes SP does have a resort fee - but free parking, cheap food, 3/2 blackjack, cheap cocktails, and it's always packed. It's where I spend MY Vegas dollar for the last 5 years or so, and I'm out there as much as ever - 4-5 times a year. The MGM/Caesars cabal can eat a bag of d1cks, I'll never spend another dime in any of their clip joints.

Most major cities have casinos. Zero reason to ever go to Vegas again. Get ready for a State Income Tax!!!!!

In the late 80's early 90's Vegas did great business from locals and that was when the population was also a lot smaller. Yes you had out of town visitors of course but it was the good prices that attracted both locals and visitors. Since Vegas has expanded over the years locals don't need to goto the strip to eat, drink or gamble. I rather go eat in Chinatown then goto the rip off places on the strip or DT. Vegas is really pricing itself out of business. It's just too damn expensive. When out of town and state visitors are low you need the locals to help get you by and the prices have driven away the locals to goto smaller places outside of the entertainment districts. So yeah the smaller casinos are going to do better and the smaller restaurants in other parts of the city are getting the business that the strip and DT use to get.
