@MrPear40In North Africa, there are still WW2 landmines in the desert that Monty and Rommel's troops planted to protect their flanks. Years later, the landowners who came to survey for resources/raise cattle and camels would accidentally step on them, losing life and limbs. French farmers and EOD men are still being killed to this day by un-exploded WW1 ordinance while they plough the fields near Verdun and try to dispose of them. Mines are one of the cruelest and indiscriminate weapons ever devised, making amputees of children in Eastern Europe after the Bosnian conflict and South East Asia after Vietnam and the Cambodian conflicts. Any government and commander who fails to map out precisely where minefields are laid so that they can be retrieved after and defused, deserves to be tried for war crimes if you ask me.
