Lahaina, Maui HI - Front Street Opens... 3 Years after the Fire
Video Overview & Insights
Lahaina Maui, HI - Recovery Update July 2026. Nearly 3 years after the fire, Front Street finally opens for a blessing ceremony. While no Commercial Buildings are under construction, we are seeing some progress in the area.
I was fortunate to have in law family members living on Maui and got to visit them annually when Moms and Pops were still living in this dimension. My memories of Lahaina were of Front Street and the wonderful views and shopping you could enjoy there. Being a jewelry maker of a sort, using mainly silver, seeing all the jewelry stores there with beautiful pearls set in gold gleaming as I window shopped strolling along was unequalled. Quite a gorgeous array of lovely precious metal pieces to admire while being in a very special and unique place. That is my main memory of Lahaina, and I miss it. And Lapperts Ice Cream shop!

Just sad. Thrilled about the Banyan Tree and green hills. But it seems Lahaina has lost her soul. No people, no life. At least you can hear the life of the ocean. Itās sad. Reminds me of Hurricane Katrina.

Great but nobody knows who started the fires. Iāve talk to locals that saw a guy on a dirt bike starting fires. Was he paid to do it? Was it just arson?
Thanks for the update! I have spent a good amount of time there and care about what really happened ..

My family and I were on vacation in Maui during the fire. We stayed at the Hyatt in Kaanapali and drove through Lahaina after checking out on our way to Wailea.
There was no power nor cell service on the west part of the island and we were trying to make it out before the wind possibly downed trees and closed the road. The wind was very strong and scary!
My wife took a video as we drove down Front Street time stamped at 2:20pm. Wind was blowing pieces off buildings and debris in the street. Iām grateful we made it out safely, but so saddened by what is now lost. My heart goes out to the people of Maui.

Why hurry? Take it slow. So peaceful and clean now without humans and their noise and garbage.
@lowspark68A direct energy weapon did this.
@lisaonthenet6794They failed to even reopen the public road through the city 3 years later... Hawaii Gov't = Sixth layer of hell?
@skibnddwnThis is unbelievable. If all theyāre gonna do is throw a sidewalk on that side and not have building spelt out like they did before like the peers I went out and stuff the shops where is the character of Lahaina? I donāt mean that as an insult, but I mean, if you donāt have the things that brought to her in to give it itās unique flavor. I donāt know how this little town is gonna survive because there wonāt be the tourist dollars that used to be spent there they kept everything going.
@PeterRichardsandYoureNotHey you show a fire hydrant is it full of water.
@markevans7815Itās funny that all of the comments in here are crying for development of this place. Everybody commenting misses āCheeseburger in Paradiseā and āBubba Gumpsāā¦think about what youāre saying.
No one on Maui wants a Disneyland tourist trapā¦Iām sure everyone commenting on this wants the āold Lahainaā back, but itās not happening. The lease owners are all big busines investors - itās not āmom and pop storesā.
What it comes down to is people not being truthful to themselves on what they want out of Lahaina.
Your updates are so appreciated. You have been doing this since day one and I and we appreciate it. This place has meant so much to us as a family for decades (we are from CA). You have been a main source for us and your detail and insight is so appreciated. Thank you, Jesse!
@ronhydeIts amazing to me how many people think this is a natural fire
@brianthornton7793This isn't a town, much less the one we recall in its glory. Until it is fully funded, this is a graveyard of buildings, aloha community and fond memories.
@learnermarkvToolongforGoogleThank you š¢. This was my very favorite place to visit.
@Smudgy-t5rNature seems to have recovered but man is slow. Lahaina Town will never be what it was but it should be more than it is by now. Is it a failure of imagination or governmental infighting? Not a single building restored? Sad to see.
I am also skeptical about that parking money going where they say it is.
I love Maui and Lahaina was my favorite place on earth. I would have like to move there, but seeing it as an empty shell, albeit a beautiful shell, makes me sad.
So pretty there. Wish LA would rebuild PCH like this.
"Blessing"? What do you mean "blessing"?
(Everyone says historic when they mean historical.)
Wow ! They built a street in 3 years?? The whole thing smells of corruption..š¤Ø
@joeskill4663My family and I just back from Maui a couple weeks ago. Front street was barricaded to drive through but I took pictures. Unbelievable sadness in what once was. Many memories of 4th of Julyās in Lahaina on Front street. The day of the fire I felt it was all a bad dream. A nightmare. I asked my wife if that really happened? Sadly she said yes š¢. Prayers to the people of Maui. Mahalo for the memories.
@javierp5438OMG Iām old! This fire was 3 years ago. It seemed like it was only yesterday. š®
@randyd-do4poThis info is very appreciated. This is worse than covid times for Lahina. I find it disgraceful. I pray the locals get what they had back.
@gingerbratton2598It appears that you're starting your walk from Front and Lahainaluna, not Front and Dickenson.
@AC-py1dfgreat update video keep up the great work
@MatthewAronoff-v6yHirono and Winfrey are going to build their houses there.
@liamlad1what was the cause of the fire. lots of theories on how and why this happened. I;ll be travelling there next year for the first time.
@RyanHolman88šš
@MarshaWaldArtofLivingMauiI was fortunate to get to visit Lahaina with my family just a few years before the fire. At the time it was bustling and vibrant in a laid back way and a wonderful place to experience. It is truly miserable to see such a beautiful place left so barren. I can only hope that the people who made it their home are rebuilding their own lives faster and more fully than the town.
@thecactusman17such a sick feeling knowing how many suffered and perished there..
@JillN-gz8grWith the Democrat controlled ran, State of Hawaii... rebuilding this city, seems like it's purposely, being rebuilt, slowly. 3 years after the fire, and the city isn't up and running already?
I truly feel, for the local people, who owned homes and businesses in Lahaina.
I KNOW THEY'RE FRUSTRATED! I know I would.
God bless to the local people in Lahaina Hawaii.
šš
3 years and no rebuilding of businesses? Whatās going on? Donāt they want businesses to return?
@knightsoftheroad4981Wow
@cherylkelly8009As always Jesse, nice job brah!
@guytaniguchiAw brah, the Baldwin house, so sad!
@guytaniguchiGo Lunas!! Class of 80!
@guytaniguchiI hope that they rebuild to the original. Sure it wonāt be identical as the original but it will be better than anything modern that could take its place.
@msdinbaIsland time at work .
@garthcasper3955Any news on Lahaina Pizza co coming back, in the same or any new location? That was our fave spot in the world, for the 15yrs prior to the fires š¢
@MikeLockeI wonder if they will rebuild the Farden house?šØš¦
@Soapbox-x4fJust left Kanapali on 29 Jun. Some progress but Theres still a looooong way to go to bring it back to a semebalnce of whta it once was.
@jdevine42Unbelievable. Three years and nothing done. Good job Hawaii š
@salinger5902I remember standing under that tree with my husband
@judyw4979Thank you for the update I am surprised that more buildings aren't further along
@judyw4979I have sat under that banyan tree many times. ā¤ļø
@Soapbox-x4fOur trip to Maui this year not the same without LÄhainÄ. They need to get developing and I would recommend to try and rebuild some of the old feel. Vacation was not as much fun as pre fire.
@geralds5834As a former resident of Lahaina my heart breaks to see the emptiness of what was once a very beautful historic town.My thoughts are with all of you who went through such a tragic episode.
@Scotthanson-kl4dqAre ANY things being rebuilt next to water?
@stoveguy21333 years later and there still dragging there feet on letting people just rebuild.
@billc.5861Good job. Thank you.
@mikeritter5113Y'all did nothing but bitch about tourists before the fire. Ain't nobody coming back to pay your parking now, bub. NOBODY. Lahaina is done forever.
@dragonbry67What happened, Fleetwood said he'd be back, 3 yrs later only the roads have been restored!?!
@sherrieandherbreynolds5882WOW..only 3 years and they already have ONE street open!! If these billionaires donāt hurry up they will die before they get to enjoy the land they murdered an entire town to steal..
