I grew up in USSR and studied history . My great argument against Prof. Mearsheimer saying that Putin invaded Ukraine because Ukraine was about to join NATO is that there are historical facts proving that Putin created propaganda for Russian people that the main reason that Russia invaded Ukraine was the possible NATO expansion to Ukraine. Many facts prove that Ukraine was not ready to join NATO. First of all NATO does not accept countries with internal territorial civil conflicts and Donbas area was a conflict created by Russians for that exact reason. Also Germany would never allow this to happen, as at that time it received cheap gas from Russia via Northern pipe ( later destroyed ) for exchange that Germany guaranteed that Ukraine would never join NATO. German counselor Gerhard Schroder had stocks in Russian gas company and Angela Merkel was a friend and of Putin. Another fact is that Putin, before he invaded Ukraine, created a false historical narrative that Ukraine never existed as a nation as false historical cover-up for invading Ukraine. Moreover, another fact that proves that NATO narrative was part of Russian propaganda is that way before 2008 NATO summit, Russia invaded Chechnya in 1990s and murdered 2/3 of their civilians, conquered part of Moldova in 1992 ( these countries had nothing to do with NATO expansion). How about the fact that Soviet troops invaded Chekoslovakia in 1968, also way before NATO expansion. The general and president of Chechnya at that time - Dzhochar Dudaev - back in early 1990s said in his interview that he saw the plan of Russian government right after USSR collapsed to occupy Chechnya first, then Baltic countries, then Crimea ( surprise , right? as he said it in 1993, way before NATO expansion). These many facts that can be easily verified by historical facts prove that NATO expansion was just a propaganda created by Russian government for Russian people to support the Georgia war in 2008 and Ukraine war in 2014 and 2022. The REAL REASON for these wars is that Putin dictator that has been in power for 22 years ! needed to stay in power by conducting “small winning wars”. His popularity was going down and he faced re-election till he invaded Crimea in 2014, then his popularity soared to over 70% and he won re-election (that election was fake anyway, and that’s why he sold this idea to Trump). All dictators starting from Russian Tsars, Chinggis Khan and rulers of Roman Empire use wars against weaker neighbours as a tool to stay in power by creating common “foreign enemies” and victoriously conquering them to raise support and loyalty among their citizens, as they take their citizens money and resources, so the ruling class continues to be crazy rich and common people stay poor. The same goes for Netanyahu who became less popular and would have likely not been re-elected if he did not start genocidal war in Gaza and the project of expansion and creating a Greater Israel, with propaganda narrative that Israel is surrounded by enemies. By the way , Natanyahu never condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Punic never condemned Netanyahu for genocide. Note that these 2 dictators started their wars against their weaker neighbours in the same timeframe, so that hey can both benefit from their countries expansion while the global West and Europe are devised, confused and morally weak.
I URGE all the civil movements, activists and people with morality in all countries to convince their governments to stop Putin’s regime and Netanyahu’s regimes from committing genocide.

Calling Putin in the middle of a meeting with EU and Ukraine is a real FU to both.

US interests are solidly on ending the war no matter what, ending sanctions on Russia, accessing Russian raw materials and wedging Russia/China. The 'negotiations' are basically between Russia/USA and EU/Ukraine. It all depends on the Europeans, and what the US does to pressure them into a peace deal. US has no leverage on Russia - that's what the Alaska meeting demonstrated.

This war and it's likely outcome was always going to happen after Russia annexed Crimea and the US and the EU did nothing. At that point it became obvious to Putin that the US was fundamentally unwilling to fight.

Invasion of Ukraine case. President Macron was the only one who was right when he said that the next meeting to seek a peace agreement should be a quadrangular meeting. This means that, in addition to Trump, Putin, and Zelensky, there should be a representative of the European Community. Absolutely! Considering that Trump and Putin are comrades and wolves of the same mountain, they would have devored Zelensky in a minute. Zelensky also needs an ally by his side, and hopefully it could be the Secretary of State of NATO, Mrs. Ursula, or the Prime Minister of Finland.
