就 (jiu) 1 - (Adverb) - likely the most difficult Chinese word - Chinese Grammar Simplified

Video Overview & Insights

This is Part 1 of the 就 (jiu) series. In this video, we are going to look at a simpler framework to understand 就 (jiu) as an adverb in most occasions. The video will introduce about 11 patterns in which we use 就 as the adverb. More variations will be explored in future videos.

The fact that 坏了就坏了, when using your base translation, is literally "if it's broken, it's broken", is so odd but so cool! That construction expresses the same nuance as that same phrase does in English ("it doesn't matter that it's broken"), but with most totally foreign languages, it'd be nonsensical. I'm always surprised by the ways Chinese is able to seamlessly translate with English.

I just discovered twin cities. I just went through 2 videos, and they are excellent. Cudos to twin cities. I used to TRY to work on my mandarin with youtube, but the Mandarin videos have greatly improved, and these are some of the best I've seen. Hello to Twin cities, from a Univ. of Wisconsin - madison Graduate! I intend to go through the whole array of videos.

I only want to learn Traditional Chinese Characters so I can read some basic Chinese. What do you recommend? Right now I’m studying from an App, a few books, and you! The App isn’t exactly what I want. I think the way I would learn best is by the radicals. All words that have one radical then move on to the next radical. Or learn all characters together that have the context. My book kind of does this, but it doesn’t explain the measure words. I would be grateful for any help. I was looking for a contribute area on your bar, but couldn’t find one.
