Tokyo, 2020:

After what should’ve been a typical reality TV dispute, a 22 year old cast member of the hit dating show Terrace House has just been discovered dead. Leading to the most recent season being scrubbed from the internet overnight. Her name was Hana Kimura.

Sending love and blessings to Hannah’s spirit and Hannah’s mother 🌸

— @AnikaGOldiE

Terrace House was heartwarming, gentle and provided a level of calmness rarely seen in reality TV. Only, what appeared on screen, wasn’t the reality contestants faced behind it.

Resources:

I feel like this wasn't thoroughly researched... A few corrections.... 1) Her family asked them to take the episodes down 2) She has had a bf before 3) She didn't necessarily dream of being a pro werestler she felt like that was the only path for her

Just btw - she was born 1997 not 1977 for anyone watching this - please check that because the beginning of the video seems to be a mistake. RIP Hana

I remember all of this going down and how horrible it was to watch it unfold on twitter. I don’t speak Japanese and the e translation tools were way worse back then so everyone on Reddit was pleading for good translations. The even keeled reactions to the show back then acknowledged the age and maturity levels of all the housemates but it was rarely acknowledged that it was staged reality TV.

I watched this on Netflix... I watched the episodes with this young lady. She was adorable, but you could she was under strain. The show should have protected the participants. Everything started to go up before her and exploded afterwards. Horrible. she received a lot hate from couch potatoes. People are mean.

it's not his fault she left her "precious"gear in the machine without noticing the others.and don't leave ur stuff in the machine if u don't intend to wash it instantly ok?if it's so precious she should have thought more carefully !I'm not Japanese and I didn't even watched the show let alone attacked her on the internet.but after knowing the whole thing through this channel I don't blame the people who attacked her on the internet at all .because she did act like a total bully and behaved badly towards that boy.u might say it's directed by the tv company.but the audience didn't know that since they are told they're watching a "reality" show.and u know from ur deep down that if the gender were reserved he did what she did to him to her .u would have attacked him much more fiercely.don't u dare deny it

What a tragedy

I wonder how Kai feels for doing nothing

Not surprised they erased the hate comments. Japan tried to erase their war crimes from the past.

A internet é uma benção, mas nas mãos de pessoas maldosas, é uma maldição. Sinto tristeza por essa moça.

Thank you for speaking so respectfully about Hana 🫠

Doing the sponsorship ad right after the disclaimer really makes it feel obvious that you're using this tragic story just to make money

Bullying is any unwanted, aggressive, and repeated behavior that involves an imbalance of power, intended to harm, intimidate, or coerce someone. It causes physical or emotional distress and creates a hostile environment.

1) Imbalance of Power: The aggressor uses power (e.g., physical strength, popularity, or access to embarrassing information) to control or harm others.

2) Intent to Harm: The aggressor means to cause physical, social, or psychological distress.

3) Cyberbullying: Harassment, threats, or humiliation conducted through digital technology, social media, or electronic messaging.

4) Social / Relational: Spreading rumors, purposeful exclusion, or embarrassing someone in public.

Before making a negative comment, think about how it may effect others seeing it.

I miss Terrace House. I watched the whole series. Just a few things to note, not fully explained in your video - they were not ex-lovers, really at all. She was no saint, but did not deserve the online hatred. Her death is incredibly sad and tragic. She did, however, certainly by Japanese standards, bully Kai; she'd made many, many cutting remarks and bitchy remarks about him behind his back and to him, leading up to this confrontation. It wasn't just one incident, and one cap hit off someone's head. And his frustrating, dumbfounded reaction to ruining her outfit was simply because he was an incredibly quiet and introverted person. Regardless, it was astonishing how it all escalated so horrifically. RIP.

I watched Terrace house and honestly didn't fall in love with the show until Hanna's season. She was my favorite person in any season and the bullying and hate she received absolutely broke my heart. She was so lovely and kind and unfortunately deliberately misunderstood.And finding out about her suicide was so painful. Even watching this video breaks my heart.

@GicKar

watched all the terrace house seasons. But not this one,... couldnt do it knowing what would happen to the girl :C

People really need to learn to not take TV and the internet/social media this serious.

Turn of your computer and or cell phone and touch grass 🙄

RIP to this young lady( what an unnecessary tragedy )

@KenRose-l3h
@

Man misogyny and any hatred at all is crazy in a “nice” “polite” Japanese society
As soon as you took the wrong step - coward people who were WAITING to pour out their hatred on someone “socially eligible“ to hate are ready to destroy you. This woman made more in her 22 than all these people watching here on tv.

Even it’s not ok to touch someone and their belongings but man the reaction is not comparable to the action. These are kind of people who will kick the on who already fell down and I despise them

I'm a little confused about her being 22 in 2019 when she was born in 1977...

@barps98

the real villains are the prodcuers of these shows. People are so dumb, and the Japanese are the epitome of sheep. It's also my favorourite country though. In hindsight she should have just gotten off the horrible internet, also who the fuck was there to support her? What about producers from the show, friends?? where the fuck were they?

@whiteshadow59
@

They should have a anti bully virus on electronics example flag words an notify an adult, police hospital parents etc… so many lives would be saved an soul

Japan is a dark, Godless society. That's why suicide is very high. They people may be polite but they are NOT KIND.

@rkbeg80
@

Omg I remember watching this scene when it first aired and the outrage people had 😣 she took her own life and they ended the show !

People didn’t understand why she was so angry. She spent her own hard working money on her costume and they were destroyed. We all would be so angry and pissed off if someone of ours was ruined

@Maya-dw5jz

Im so shocked. I used to really like the show when it came out on Netflix. I remember thinking Hana is so badass. But I never knew about her death and the hate. I feel so sad for her.

@LadyClementoni
@

I love japan and I find the mythology and culture interesting, and it's such a gorgeous country. however, even if I even love the urban legends and ghost stories, there's something extremely dark about it. I can't explain it, it just feels dark and even scary sometimes.
