This video is 5 years old, with the recent upheaval in the world, I wonder if there are any changes to the demand of this degree.

It’s good as interdisciplinary. Maybe more useful than communications, but honestly, not worth it. Get an international business degree. Hell even a psych degree has more applications. And that’s saying a lot because everyone says “don’t study psych, unless you plan on grad school.” Seriously, avoid this degree and be realistic. If you’re not good at math and maybe need more remedial work, stay close to home and go tot the community college and get Econ, and Remedial math coursework. Seriously, it’s what I should’ve done. It may be a good prelaw degree, but honestly you need a mathematics related degree or applied science degree if law school doesn’t work out.
KNOW THIS! An Econ and/or psych major can do what an international relations degree can do, but an IR degree can’t do what they can do. And yes, it’s far too narrow. Even if you have a plan, it’s far too narrow.

Actually after I was given this degree as a second choice I worked her to understand it but never realized what part I should force on
Anyways I would say this video have me clarity
Thank you so much ❤

Planning for a master’s in Germany and Globro looks helpful, but I’m not sure if the info is up to date.

Update, its a good well rounded degree. But my advice is, be practical and realistic. Times have changed fast and you’re better off majoring in international busines, information systems or economics if this is a major you’re considering. Even as a prelaw student. I’m sorry but English, History, Foreign Language, Cultural Studies (of any kind), Psychology, community leadership, business specializations in Human Resources, Real Estate, marketing, Urban Planning, Anthopology, Sociology, Education, Communications, Journalism, Sexuality and Gender Studies, Political Science , Philosophy and yes International Relations just aren’t practical degrees anymore. Not everyone is meant to be an engineer or finance bro. Not everyone is meant to go to a super challenging school right out of high school either, but we really need to be educating kids on economy younger so they can be ready for the transition to adulthood. You’re better off focusing on the fundamentals at a local community college and then finishing up business or STEM degree at 4 years school. That or a trade school. The internet has also made the job market more competitive than ever. Learn something that’s in demand even if you’re not passionate about it. - from an International Relations alumnus from the Ohio State University.

I’d highly recommend double majoring in economics with this degree. IR has a ton of potential but it takes a lot of careful planning & if life throws you a curveball the economics degree will be a very safe backup plan that even if everything goes well will open a lot of doors, for example international business.

As someone who majored in International Relations. I can tell you that I do lament at times I was not more practical like pursuing a finance or engineering degree. Especially in today’s economy. Minored in Mandarin Chinese thinking I was going to work for Dept of Defense or a government agency. And thank god that didn’t work out. Especially now with everyone in the government losing their jobs. Plus federal government does, understandingly, want control in every aspect of your life (where you live, how often you see your family, your social circle). I work in finance now. Wanted to switch to finance halfway through my sophomore year but it would’ve taken me another year in college and couldn’t afford it. Now, all that being said there is opportunities in data analysis with this major. That I will give it. But honestly you’re better off focusing on engineering or business degree. But like me, if it is already too late, you can still use your education in International Relations to pivot to data analysis, Human Resources, and finance.

Studying international relations has been one the greatest things ever happen to me because it’s a wide spectrum that teaches your politics , economics and law amongest others but adding up new skills like languages makes you even more valuable, powerful and unstoppable.
This course is not only for resolving the current issues but also the past and not forgetting using our negotiation techniques and strategies to shape our future for all generations to come .

Sooooo are accelerated courses not a thing anymore?
@DexymediaGetting my Masters in International Relations and Global Security. Paid for by the VA. I couldn't tell you if it's worth it compared to other degrees if the tuition isn't covered. I have years of experience in the military, law enforcement, intelligence, and AML spaces and it's an MA (vs MS from something like International Studies from something like Georgetown U's School of Foreign Services) and I've been just over 6 figures for the last few years, but that's not counting benefits.
@rebelintelLike you said Shane this IR major is something you need to look into deeply and know what path your going to take with this degree. I did just that and I am majoring in IR with a minor in Economics. Then I will aim to get my masters through the Rangel fellowship program offered by the US Dept. of State and hopefully if I am selected I can serve as a Foreign Service Economic Officer or as a Foreign Service Political Officer basically a Diplomat career to work overseas at either a US Embassy or US Consulate. Wish me luck. 🤞🤞

@jean-fatomathurin7025Will it be good if I major in international relations and minor in finance and marketing?
@samirascaris9725Great video, I wish I had that information back in 2010 when I decided to study IR. Just a fancy, useless degree, without the right connections you will end up working some bullshit job like millions of people with or without degree.
@AnitaLu09This was extremely comprehensive, covered both pros and cons and it was just what I was looking for!
@JaveriaKhan776Do you guys think bachelor in IR and Masters in data science would go well? Or maybe IR and International law master
@сашабоднарук-ъ9кin my mother tongue i can talk some bollocs and it will be accepted while in another language i cant do so
@BarbosssaaIf somebody acquires a masters and a PhD in international relations without having a bachelors in international relations, can he be able to work in an academic institution? Or does he have to have studied as an undergraduate in the first place?
@thinker8107Is an international relation degree better or not and what is salary package
@sharjeeljutt1059Me watching this video form the country where people don’t go into 40,000$ student debt in order to get a degree 😶
@greenlime8726My sister graduated with IR degree. After that, she took civil service 2 times until she made it. She became a contractual staff in our university until she became a regular employee and got promoted 3 years ago. Atleast her salary had increased.Although my mom is encouraging her to take up masters
