Is Living in Miami Really More Expensive Than NYC

Michael I’ve been a loyal viewer of your channel. But the way you are disrespecting the New York mayor is pretty sickening and it’s hurting your credibility. He is a very successful politician and New Yorkers are relatively happy with him, but at any rate it is not for you to diss him. I’m starting to wonder if you’re flat out Maga —nobody’s going to be able to trust your financial insight if you’re going to be so biased, you need to make a change in the way you talk about people or I’m going to start reporting your channel.

Miami isn't worth it.

I dunno. Plenty of people in Miami in poorer neighborhoods. I myself am middle class and live my life in Miami. Im not sure what these statistics cover. Is it Miami? Miami-Dade? Miami including downtown and the beaches? There's a lot Miami down here to blanket it with statistics. I dont know people with a second job either. Im not sure the statistic is believable. Sounds like the new billionaires want to scare people out. Just my two cents.

The rich D Heads tax flight from NYC to Miami is ridiculous. Morons will keep their NY property and buy a new primary in FL and pay a S ton for homeowners insurance and property tax. They won't stay long and some other rich D Head will buy their cookie cutter black and white box at a loss. These are not normal people.

Emergency money in a CD.Many do .Many Don't Many fall into borrow as much as possible and buy real estate.All these get rich with out working.Let the other guys make you rich.Then when the other people don't follow your plan like they are supposed to.The as we say now prejections don't happen then it's other people's fault.Noone wants to take the time and have a safety net for backup.They want to borrow from relatives when broke.They get angry when others don't want to hand over their bank account

Michael, Chicago actually has a high minimum wage now ($17.05/hr) then all of NYC ($17/hr) with very high property taxes and the IL 5% state income tax!

I watch a lot of your videos, this one I have to disagree with. I have been living in Miami 34 years, Only way to survive is 2-3 jobs, working a minimum of 55-60 hours a week. I have family in New York, in the CITY. Our lives are not the same. All these rich people you say are moving down here are also bringing the inflation with them. Our general expenses have jumped way over 30% in just a year or two, and I know because I've been tracking my grocery bills since 2017. I bring the recipes! lol I have family in New York with one job, 40 hours a week, has a car and a son, and has money saved in the bank. Down here your lucky if you get an extra $400-500 this month to bring into the next month. I know graduates here in Miami with Bachelor and Master degrees that have graduated 3-4 years ago still doing UBER because they can't find a job in the field they studied. MIAMI is way more expensive to live than New York.

I’m a New Yorker. I pay federal state and city taxes. I’ve been milked my whole working life and I rarely if ever felt my taxes at work personally. So I voted for Mamdani and I have to say that I am already feeling the benefits of his promises coming to fruition. He’s already done more for the people of this city than the last 5 mayors combined. Not just some tax breaks that usually only benefit the rich but rather something that regular folks feel, such as universal child care programs, rent freezes and now opened city ran grocery stores that are 30% cheaper and funded by OUR taxes. I realize late stage capitalists are all upset and angry and some are leaving NYC but that’s cool, bye Felicia!

When I vacation in Florida, it's Orlando, not Miami. The reason? I like safe, clean suburbs that are near the beach. In Miami, the disparity between the haves and have nots is so wide that I would be more concerned with crime. I can fly in to Orlando, stay at a nice hotel in Cocoa beach and not have the issues I would have in Miami. I have only been to NYC once and no desire to return. There was so much trash on the street that it makes you wonder why anyone would ever embrace that slum. All those people packed together like sardines. No thanks. 💯

This guy doesn’t understand. More people have moved just since Mamdani was elected, it goes in waves especially in 2020 and 2021. People move down for change in lifestyle, sunlight, beaches and water, no winter, etc and an added benefit is no state taxes and slightly less expensive

Price per square foot is outrageous in new York.

I feel so bad for the young. How can they ever have the American dream of owning a home, having children and a good job with no fear of losing everything? It’s so scary out there right now for the younger generations. My wish and prayer for all that don’t have a job is to find one even if it’s not what you really want to do, it will help so much to pay the bills and give some sense of calm in this crazy world we are living in. Let’s face it - greed has taken over the world and we are losing humanity on a daily basis.

Is it the "greater metro area" or the city limits proper? There's a big difference between the 5 boroughs and all of greater NYC, somewhere in there is a threshold where Long Island counts.

Taxes in Ohio are crazy too. I live out in the country and pay state, school, and city tax (bc I work in the city, I don't even live there)! I moved from Florida as a young adult to be near family and was not aware of how much taxes are outside of FL.

So what I got from this is that it’s all relative to were you live. Bottom line, most metros are expensive. Does it matter what ones are the most? Most won’t choose to live in any of them.

I commuted to Wall Street from CT for a while. NYC is absolutely horrible. I don't know about Miami, but I thought Sarasota was terrific when I visited there.

Now you sound like every real estate agent in Florida. You can't focus on median statistics for cost, then apply it to the richest 10% of the population. The Rich can afford to live anywhere they want, and often have several homes. They don't operate on costs, because they don't have to. They're more focused on lifestyle and return on investment. It's everyone else that suffers because the rich are driving up the prices when they over pay to get what they want, when they want it, because they can. There are real problems in places like Naples and Sarasota Florida where the wealthy have driven out all the working class people, and now complain they can't find anyone to provide services. I moved to Florida for a promotion from a northern state with the same tax structure as NY, the tax savings and raise in income were immediately wiped out by the increased cost of rent, insurance, food and utilities. These inescapable costs way more on the average people. The Rich have convenient loopholes built in for them that they exploit to escape some of these costs. They have tax loopholes galore to write off property, cars, service, etc through a business. Then there are banks that give them special financing privileges that average folks could never imagine, like never having to make a down payment or pay back a loan as long as they just pay interest payments. In Florida if you buy a car over 75k, the next time you buy one you don't have to pay sales tax on the whole price, just the difference. So if you buy an 85k car you only pay tax on 5k, the rest of us buying 30k cars have to pay full tax every time. The Rich get special treatment everywhere, the true cost to them is about the same anyplace they want to go, for the average person it's not.
