Is Awkwafina A Bad Voice Actor?

A bad VA? No. An overused VA? Yes.

Shes like nickel back, definitely has its place and its fans but is often overplayed and for that sole reason becomes grating/old or whatever words youd use to describe something you’ve already heard 20 times and can pick out instantly. Except nickleback is actually really good where Aquafina just has her specific roles and should stick to that.

No I hate every character she's acted. I don't hate her.

To be fair, when my daughter made us watch it, I had no clue who the voice actor was. Actually I didn't know until this video. We liked Sisu. I don't feel like it was bad at all and we got some good chuckles out of it. Maybe people already didn't like Awkwafina and that tainted thier opinions? This is one reason i never look at who the VAs are. I didn't even know about Chris Pratt, though we didn't like the voice for Mario lol

Chris Pratt is a good voice actor. You can hear the Italian accent in some scenes in the Mario Bros. Movie but I think they were scared of making Mario talk like this all the time because they maybe thought that it'd turn into a parody? Anyway. I don't think he did a bad job.

She is indeed horrible. she only can do one voice, it either fit or doesn't there no in-between

she is like a gardening scissors, they only do one job but the user somehow use it to cut papers, cutting bars, or fixing wires.

Wasn't there a moment in the movie Chris Pratt did an Italian/Mario voice or was that a fever dream of mine? If he did, it showed he was capable but stuck as himself. He's okay, but usually it's obvious. Issue with Awkwafina is she's fine but her voice is so unique in a grating sort of way that unless you view it as fitting for that character it's just annoying.

I just want to make a quick comment. With these voice actors being over used, I’d like to say this.

You see the character but once they speak, all you can see is the voice actors, not the character they’re voicing. However, I like to use Johnny Depp as an example. When I see a character like Victor (corpse bride) and Rango (rango) I would have NEVER guessed they were the same guy. Because Johnny Depp understands that the character isn’t him, it’s a character, so he brings life to the character by being that character. He isn’t putting on a costume, he’s bringing life to something special.

One trick pony and that one trick sucks

When she played her role as Sisu i feel like what made me not like the character was not the voice, but the script. I don't believe she is a bad voice actor I just feel like she gets a lot of characters where her voice doesn't necessarily fit or the script is just bad. I believe in the case of sisu for me, the script just had way too many jokes that were not timed right, and were in the wrong location and just too many in general and this made the character feel more shallow, didn't give much depth to the character. But basically like you even said, there are some good characters where her voice fits and because the script was more thought out, such as the one in bad guys with miss tarantula, everything worked out and it sounds good. So basically what I'm saying is there are many characters she has been given that I don't believe it was her fault, but more so the script and the director. And then there are some characters that are great. I find I don't hate her voice when it comes to characters or her portrayal of the characters, it is just the fact of either the director did not cast her correctly or the script and story was bad. To me, that's not a bad voice actor that's just someone who has been dealt a bad hand.

So essentially she's the female Patrick Warburton. That guy has done the same performance for all his characters for decades, but gets away with it because he's typecast into specific roles and never plays a lead

Aquafina's entire career is baffling to me. She has no redeeming quality. Like Megan Fox and Keanu Reeves couldn't act but at least they were incredibly good looking, Cloris leachman had a very strange sounding voice but at least she was hilarious. Aquafina has nothing but bad qualities.

Awkwafina's performances in the animated movies she has been in do not qualify as voice acting. She cannot do anything beyond just being herself and that voice is among the most obnoxious I have ever heard in any animated movies. Voice acting is so much more. Reducing it to an opportunity for celebrities for the sake of more money, trivialises the hard work real voice actors put in to training and making it in the industry.

TADC have like such nice and unique voice actors and I wish they'd voice more characters from series or movies but I doubt big studios would do that

At least she doesn't do the fake black accent as often anymore, but she still has that harsh voice, and that stupid stage name.

I would never say that Awkwafina was bad as a voice actor. Love her as an actor and it is refreshing to hear her in animated features. However, just as it would be with any actor the voice has to fit the part, or the actor it could be a problem. Example, I don't think Awkwa particularly fit the Raya and the Last Dragon, but it was still a pretty good movie.

Love the voice hate the characters

a lot of voice actors started off as actors which can effect it
and some voice actors just don‘t have range anymore like they used to :/

Her voice acting isn't bad but she is definitely annoying, often miscast, and anytime I hear her voice, I know the movie is gonna be a chore to get through

She isn't a voice actor. Just an actor with a unique voice. Mel Brooks, Billy west, Tara Strong. Those are voice actors. This is just the new thing hollywood over uses until the meme is burnt out.

She's not only a bad voice actor, she's also a bad actress, and her voice is far too recognizable. It's like Dante Basco, you immediately know it's him because it sounds like zuko, except akwafina's voice is just annoying and grating.

She's not that good. And coupled with how much she's used, it makes it worse.

Short answer, yes she's bad not just at voice acting but at pretty much everything she does. Her voice works well for a couple specific characters but she has zero range, is a terrible actress, has bad comedic timing, and when she tried her hand at writing it was unwatchable.

They just need to higher VC again, personally for me she's not a good VC in my humble opinion because she's just giving the same range on her voice, she just sounds the same in every character, there is no difference she just sounds the same and I can even tell to this point it's her voice because I can literally just hear it
