Iran closes Strait of Hormuz, accusing US and Israel of violating ceasefire deal | BBC News

Iran closes Strait of Hormuz, accusing US and Israel of violating ceasefire deal | BBC News

I'm going to have to start "predicting" on kelshi for all the times it opens and closes

— @velarswood

Iran has said it is closing the Strait of Hormuz and accuses the US and Israel of violating the ceasefire deal, after Israel continued strikes on Lebanon.

Israel will take care of the strait, no pbm

— @gulnet-xp6up

The news comes as roughly two dozen people were reportedly killed by Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, less than 24 hours after a new ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced.

Get out of Lebanon, and maybe those 4 men wouldn't have been killed.. Such flawed logic...

— @USCSBoner

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei says his country's attendance at talks in Switzerland will be aimed at "demanding that the other side fulfil its commitments".

There was no deal you fraud supporting news you do understand you will be held accountable by law and horrible fate right you do right

— @Jim-z8v

US Vice-President JD Vance tells Fox News that the Strait of Hormuz remains fully open, after being asked about reporting in the Wall Street Journal suggesting the Iranian navy were turning away ships.

Trump, his family, and the entire political and financial clan have quickly made billions from this war. They have no worries. This is the US's problem, not the Trumpists' and the Maga. The US spent $100 billion attacking Iran, lost planes and people, and now Washington will have to pay $300 billion in compensation for the losses so that the ayatollahs will unblock the strait and sign a peace agreement. It's so absurd that only Trump could have come up with such an idea.

US thought the war would trap China, but they end up trapping themselves. they assume because China import oil and they don't, so they are not dependent and China is. they forgot that China is top 5 oil producer, they are just importing oil because it is cheaper. if oil price rises, domestic output can increase, it is the same phenomenon that cause US oil production to increase to number one. the reality is the world is not short on oil, it is short on cheap oil. if cheap oil is not available, less cheap oil become economical to extract.

lot of very opiniated folks with very limited knowledge about their opinions in here. typical. the country you keep blaming for everything has started exactly zero wars unprovoked. the people you should be mad at are the ones you defend.

Archaeological and historical records document a continuous Jewish presence in the Levant that predates the emergence of Islam by roughly 2,000 years.

Prior to the 7th-century Islamic conquests under the Rashidun Caliphate, the population of the Levant was primarily composed of Byzantine, Christian, and Jewish communities, with Arab populations largely concentrated within the Arabian Peninsula.

Modern genetic research indicates that Ashkenazi Jews, alongside other Jewish and Levantine populations, share significant genetic markers tracing back to ancient Canaanite populations.

From a diplomatic perspective, various peace initiatives and two-state proposals have been presented to Palestinian arabs over the years, all were rejected.

1937 Peel Commission Partition Plan: The British government proposed dividing Mandatory Palestine into a small Jewish state (roughly 17% of the land) and a larger Arab state linked to Transjordan. The Arab leadership rejected the plan outright because they opposed any partition of the territory, while Jewish leadership accepted it.

1947 United Nations Partition Plan: UN General Assembly Resolution 181 proposed creating separate Jewish and Arab states, with Jerusalem under international control. Jewish leaders accepted the proposal, but the Higher Arab Committee and neighboring Arab states rejected it.

1967 Khartoum Resolution: Following the Six-Day War, during which Israel captured the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza, the Sinai Peninsula, and the Golan Heights, the Arab League issued the Khartoum Resolution. It established the "Three No's": no peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, and no negotiations with Israel, rejecting a framework of exchanging land for peace.

2000 Camp David Summit: Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and U.S. President Bill Clinton offered PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat a state encompassing all of the Gaza Strip and roughly 91% to 94% of the West Bank, alongside a capital in parts of East Jerusalem. Arafat rejected the offer.

2008 Olmert Proposal: Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert presented a detailed map to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The offer included near-total withdrawal from the West Bank with land swaps, international administration of Jerusalem's holy sites, and a symbolic return for refugees. Abbas rejected the offer.

1947–1948 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine: Following the UN partition plan in November 1947, Palestinian Arab forces, supported by the Arab Liberation Army, initiated attacks against Jewish communities, leading to a civil war that later escalated into the 1948 Arab–Israeli War.

The Six-Day War (1967): Following Egypt's (Palestine) blockade of the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping (an act Israel had previously stated would be considered a casus belli), the removal of UN peacekeepers, and the mobilization of approximately 100,000 to 130,000 troops and roughly 900–950 tanks on Israel's border, Israel launched a preemptive strike against Egypt (Palestine) and its allies, Jordan (Palestine) and Syria, resulting in a swift victory and the occupation of the Gaza Strip (Egypt), the West Bank (Jordan), the Sinai Peninsula (Egypt), and the Golan Heights (Syria).

The First Intifada (1987–1993): A mass uprising initiated by Palestinian groups in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, consisting of civil disobedience, demonstrations, and violence.

The Second Intifada (2000–2005): Spurring from the collapse of the July 2000 Camp David Summit, this period was marked by highly intense violence. It featured widespread Palestinian suicide bombings, shootings, and rocket fire, countered by Israeli military offensives, targeted assassinations, and the construction of the West Bank barrier.

2006 Gaza–Israel Conflict: Palestinian militants used a cross-border tunnel to attack an army post inside Israel on June 25, 2006, killing two soldiers and kidnapping Corporal Gilad Shalit, leading to retaliatory Israeli operations.

2007 Battle of Gaza: Hamas launched an offensive, resulting in a violent takeover of the Gaza Strip and breaking from the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority.

2008–2009 Gaza War (Operation Cast Lead): While Israel launched this operation, it was a response to increased rocket fire from Hamas-controlled Gaza, after a six-month truce collapsed.

2014 Gaza War (Operation Protective Edge): Initiated after intense rocket attacks from Gaza and the kidnapping/murder of Israeli teenagers. Naftali Fraenkel (16), Gilad Shaer (16) and Eyal Yifrach (19) by hamas militants Marwan Qawasmeh (29) and Amer Abu Aisha (32). The teenagers were waiting at a popular hitchhiking spot seeking a ride home, they entered a vehicle. Moments after entering the car, Gilad Shaer managed to secretly dial the Israeli police emergency hotline and whispered, "We're being kidnapped". background noise on the recorded emergency call captured the kidnappers shouting in Arabic, followed by several rounds of suppressed gunfire. The teenagers were later found buried under stones in an open field near the Palestinian town of Halhul.

2021 Israel–Palestine Crisis (Operation Guardian of the Walls): Hamas fired a large barrage of rockets into Israel, prompting an 11-day war.

2023–present Gaza War: Initiated by Hamas on October 7, 2023, with a surprise attack into southern Israel. The attack involved thousands of rockets and ground incursions that killed approximately 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took over 240 hostages. This initiated the ongoing war.

So Iran can unilaterally close the Strait vs Trump implying the US “won”.

@jimessinger6107

Israel will release more of the Epstein files if Trump doesn’t do what they want!!

@perfectlove333
@

In war, one side ultimately needs to be defeated. Iran somehow believes it can win this war while also acquiring the nuclear weapons it seeks to use against Israel.

Therefore, this war is not over yet.

Iran will need to be properly defeated. The problem is that Iran believes it has already won this war.

Iran needs to be decisively defeated militarily, and only then can an unconditional surrender be imposed upon it.

Thus war isn’t over

It will be like this now……forever. The luxury of the Middle East will now start to collapse and fall in line with the lifestyle of Iran etc. From my perspective, looks like Iran is in control of this war sadly

So, Israel should let Hezbollah (terrorist group backed by Iran) attack and kill its army just to please Iran so that the deal can go on hhh. Mr. Trump, I repeat this deal is a waste of time, Iran will never comply. See what happens in less than 72hours after signing the MOU. Just find other solution whatever it takes and close this issue completely. The world economy is tired of depending on one country with its own agenda.

@richardskanamugire9344
@

The world is tired; Strait of Hormuz should be opened without any condition. USA needs to do whatever is necessary to have this issue sorted once and for all. Imagine Iran charges fees for ships that pass there. If Iran gets the nukes the world is doomed. So, Mr. Trump should know that we need conclusive solution. The Peace deal will not work. These deals were there over 80 years now; Ex-president Obama had a deal with Iran but look at where we are now? So, deals will never solve this issue.

@richardskanamugire9344

If Iran gets the right to make a nuclear bomb the first person will be every Christian nation and that includes the USA

Maybe it’s Time to rid the planet of the regime seems now to be the only possible solution if like Israel the USA was surrounded by terrorist sponsoring regimes there would not be a suggestion of a peace deal or even a ceasefire had there been a ceasefire and peace deal with the Hitler and Hirohito
During the Second World War we’d most likely still be fighting them to this day

You can't have a deal that involves three parties between two parties... expecting the sidelined third party to abide by a deal they are not party to and not involved in negotiating it. This is never going to work... What a mess?!...

@junxs1

Concerning Israel I think it's important that we consider the crimes of October 7th 2023. Crimes that were clearly intended to invoke images of the disgusting crimes committed by the Nazis during World War II. We should recognize that When Israel is hit they hit back when they're attacked they fight back. Within the current partnership between the United States and Israel, Israel should recognize that reactionary responses may undermine progress going forward, America is trying to work together with Israel to establish an environment in the region that allows for normal coexistence and the possibility of peace in the future. Hopefully Israel can work with America for a healthier more humane future.

Well it's pretty obvious who really calls the shots (excuse the ironic pun) for a ceasefire and it's neither the U.S. nor Iran.

@GerhardB4224
@

Lol, who could have seen this coming. Its almost as if the old saying of "never negotiate with terrorists" keeps being proven true. Hezbollah are violent savages who started their war with Israel in the first place and will never honor a ceasefire, so stop pretending they will ffs.

As for the IRGC, they will make any excuse possible to try and save their last terrorist proxy from being exterminated, even if it means they maintain a loosing war against the USA. Loosing Hezbollah & influence over the weak government of Lebanon will leave them isolated, especially considering Hamas have been all but wiped out.

Messrs EU., you are our only hope. I am speaking on behalf of the russian - speaking population of Ukraine (due to the USSR). I am confident everyone will support you. Freeze all the stolen offshore accounts of mindich -zelensky and his mindich mafia in the Verkhovna Rada and return them to Ukraine.
Then you won't have to provide financial assistance or feed zelensky's clown mafia. And treat him like Maduro: hand him over to the European justice system.
