I have an iPad Pro, the M2 model and a Mini 6. I also have an M1 Pro MacBook Pro and an M4 Air. My IPad Pro has cellular service, plus I run iOS 26. I use my iPad Pro for 95% of all of my work tasks.

iOS 26 and the fact that I have cellular service are the main reason I use it more than anything else. iOS 26 transformed my iPad into a real power tool and shifted the way I use it daily complete. Always having internet service is a huge benefit, not just for confidence, but also safety. I run a national education company, so data control is essential for me. I never have to sign into WiFi, so my system is much more secure. I think people underestimate how big of a deal direct cellular service is and how impactful that can be for your workflow, depending on the type of work you do and your accessibility needs.

I have been a Windows user all of my life. My company has a partnership with Microsoft, that’s how deep I was into their ecosystem. Switching over to Macs was a huge change for me. I still struggle with using Mac OS in certain ways. iPad OS was a much easier adjustment, most likely because I’ve had iPhones for the last 10 years, plus apps are just easier to jump into than an operating system.

I like Mac OS though. Never having software updates that pause your system while working is a quality of life change that is unexplainable. I cannot imagine being in the middle of a presentation now and my system requiring a software update. I also like how the computer is always ready. The more I learn Mac OS, the more I appreciate it. I can also see how we are able to create our own workspace and environment on a MacBook over an iPad.

Being able to install programs vs apps has huge benefits. You can add much more powerful tools using programs. You can also transform your MacBook into a device that does exactly what you need and does it the way you want to do it. I can clearly see how a MacBook gives you more usability and customization options, plus accessibility because you can load both programs and apps.

The thing is, I do not need more than what the iPad can allow me to do. The M model iPads are stronger than most laptops. They have touchscreens. I can write directly on the device. I have internet service at all times, that is safe and secure. I have iOS 26, so it runs like a full operating system; at least in the ways I need to manage my workflow and access the tools I need with ease. It’s smaller, so it fits into all of my bags from my crossbody bags, to book bags, to my extremely thin portfolios, so I can keep it with me 24 7 then work from anywhere. I even have a keyboard case for my iPad Mini, so I can put that in my jacket if I need to then either have it for a meeting or truly work from anywhere.

I bought my M1 Pro MacBook Pro to edit videos for an education based podcast I started for our agency, plus so I can have a local AI to assist with business related tasks that are proprietary, and I paid $1,000 for it used preloaded with all the software I needed a little over 2 years ago. I bought the M4 MacBook Air because they upgraded the devices to 16g standard and I only paid $750 for it new, so I figured it would make an ideal workstation and admin device. I use them so little, they’re both basically brand new still. I doubt my Air has 10 charge cycles and the M1 Pro still has 100% battery life.

My most used and valuable work tool by far is my iPad Pro. I am beyond grateful to live in this time. I have less than $5,000 in all of my devices, mainly because I typically buy devices used and one generation behind once the newest models come out. I run an agency that provides educational services to hundreds of thousands of youth living in poverty across the country per year. I write books to assist both them and the adults attached to them. I produce documentary and videos that enhance and advance our work. I manage a full staff, and my staff works in various cities across the country. I consult multiple government agencies. And I do all of this seamlessly with devices that cost me less than $5,000 and another $250 for services per month, including two iPhones.

We live in a time where things are possible that would have required so much more capital that most people would have been boxed out just 10 years ago. Also, the programs and tools we have access to now lower the requirement to enter the marketplace plus maintain once in business. We have everything from AI than can be your advisor, consultant, team, and walk you through any process, to programs and apps that simplify just about anything you can think of. Even the devices available on the used market and free or open sourced software can open the door to run a business that allows you to walk in your purpose plus secure the type of future that can change your entire family’s quality of life for generations.

We are blessed. These devices are more than work-tools. These are gateways to a different type of life, if you use them properly, believe in yourself, and push yourself to do things you never imagined you could do.

I have both a M4 13" MacBook Air and a M4 13" iPad Pro. Take it from me, and my mistake, just get the MacBook Air, it is amazingly cool,
even watching videos with the aspect ratio is way better. The display on iPad is nice, but not worth it. I use my MacBook all the time

You have to buy an apple pencil with a keyboard..Because Apple doesn't give it to you when you buy an iPad..So you're going to spend more than buying a Macbook.

I own a M4 IPad Pro, now running Beta IOS 26 and I am seriously considering converting to an M4 MacBook Air for two reasons you really did not (in my opinion) explore in sufficient depth. The first reason is the software is not only watered down but also has different menus and menu placement on the IPad. The second reason is, a contradiction to the first reason, but for some uses where a type of software is only occasionally needed the IPad software normally (Apple Pencil or touch display the obvious exception) runs well across a MacBook. I believe the IPad Pro is still years away, if ever, in development from being considered a viable computer for “the most of us” and Apple executives have even hinted that the difference is intentional and will remain that way.

Indeed, as Max pointed out, multitasking on the iPadOS is inferior to that on MacOS.

I still choose the iPadOS because of my habit. I’ve been using iPads as laptop replacements for over a decade, all because of the smaller form factor. My iPad Pro is even my main computer now (I also have a 2019 iMac but it is less powerful than my 2020 iPad Pro).

I am a hobby drawing artist. I need the iPad for my hobby art abilities. But as a hobby artist I can not justify paying for the M4 iPad Pro. I would buy the M4 Macbook Air instead. My first iPad was the iPad 6 with Apple Pencil generation one. 2025 I have an 11in iPad Air M2. I have an M2 Mac mini (with 8 gigabytes of RAM).

@MattHalpain

For the price of the iPad Pro +accessories, just get an M4 MBP and you'll get a way better experience.

@LukeWatson53

We were all blown away by iPadOS 26 Beta—the new windowed multitasking, the glassy UI, top-of-screen menus... wow. It finally looked like the iPad had grown up.

But in all the excitement, we forgot one thing:
It still can’t run real pro software.

To borrow a line from Jurassic Park:

“We were so preoccupied with whether we could, we didn’t stop to think if we should.”
Apple gave us the illusion of a desktop—but left out the engine. So no matter how powerful the hardware is, or how sleek the interface gets, it’s still a sandboxed tablet with bragging rights. Great for artists, sure—but still a no-go for real creative production.

Its a nonsense comparison for anyone doing grown up work - Creative Cloud...?

M4 Macbook Air for $849 plus the base iPad for $349. There, the winning combo.

I bought the M4 MacBook Air launch week and long story short I returned it. I couldn’t get over the screen quality in comparison to the iPad Pro with that butter 120hz tandem OLED.

@ceejay_v

MacBook Benefit #8: macOS is not a corporate hellscape closed operating system. 😂 You can download and install (or even build and distribute) apps without Apple's permission.

@shaneterrell
@

I just sold my M1 Pro Mac so I could get an 11” m4 iPad Pro. I didn’t need ports or extreme multitasking. The iPad is more accessible, personal, fun, and a more enjoyable experience for chill time. I don’t use it with Magic Keyboard or Pencil most of the time. Just a little magnetic kick stand that can be removed easily. Problem is when people try to compare iPad to a laptop. It’s not really supposed to be a laptop, it just can be.

@janebond4175
@

You failed to mention that you can get cellular service with the iPad and you cannot get that with the MacBook Air or any MacBook. It makes a big difference when on the road rather than having to try to tether your MacBook to your iPhone.

@goodhearted
@

choice is not that hard:
-if you have to work with it, then the only choice is Mac
-if you have to study with it or just use it as a secondary device you should go for iPad

@ffari4346
@

I personally would choose the mac. I have a iPad pro now and its incredibly frustrating that a device as powerful as the iPad is still limited by the OS. IDK why Apple can't make a 2 in 1 so Apple fans like me can have the best of both worlds without having to carry around two devices. Especially when devices like the Lenovo Yoga are perfect for Apple to copy and perfect. It could switch to iPad OS in tablet mode and switch to Mac OS in laptop mode. Leave the iPad for people who are basic non power users.

@HostileMAV

Why add touch screen onto MacOS? iPad just for entertainment only... And finally combine padOS and macOS.

Why doesn't anyone talk about the LiDAR scanner!!

@davidliuis

Just get the 13 inch iPad Air instead as it’s not as expensive and has majority of the features that the pro has

@Ykschess
@

Honestly… only with a foldable iphone than the Ipad is dead. it is useful but if you merge with your phone. You co
Ant get rid of you phone and the mac… so carrying the Ipad is a big redundancy… I have the mini but I barely touch it, and usually stays at home to avoid the extra weight on my backpack

@marcosmileo

I would still take the ipad over the mb air because of the screen & 5g capabilities

@WaxAttack1

I will never understand this obsession of trying to make the iPad a laptop. I have a MacBook Air and base model m4 iPad Pro with no Magic Keyboard. still get the nice screen and pro motion for content and gaming and for second screen for the MacBook. If you don't care about HDR and promotion you can get the base iPad and an air for less than a 13" iPad Pro and keyboard case

@jeremykrueger7071

I LOVE MY M4 Pro IPad I also have the magic keyboard and with the update I’m able to do most of the stuff I do on my MacBook Pro so IPad is better in my opinion
