Inside the UK’s Largest Zoo! | Whipsnade Zoo Review
Video Overview & Insights
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is the sister zoo of London Zoo, founded in the 1930s by the Zoological Society of London to give large animals like elephants, giraffes, and rhinos the space they deserve.
Loved my visit 😊🇬🇧
With over 240 hectares, Whipsnade is the largest zoo in the UK and one of the biggest in Europe – so big, you can even drive through it by car! But size isn’t everything, so we have a lot to
👉 Is Whipsnade Zoo really as impressive as it sounds?
Wallaby are native to the UK several mobs live wild in the UK for many years
👉 Is it worth a visit compared to London Zoo?
👉 And how good are the enclosures for elephants, rhinos, and chimpanzees today?
I love it and it is way better than London zoo
In this Whipsnade Zoo review, I take you through all areas of the park, share honest impressions, and show what makes this huge animal park unique – and where there’s still room for improvement.

I adore this zoo. I’ve taken my four children here for so many years ❤

I’ve been behind the scenes at the elephant house to feed them but they have a really good indoor area and the old common hippo enclosure behind the scenes area has an extra separate house behind the main house

@getvw2000You need to go to Colchester zoo in my opinion it’s one of the best in the uk
@mintystryder❤
@SophieEdwards-ve2wnI really like the aquarium because it displays endangered freshwater fish like Nothobranchius sainthousei. It's a better concept than a lot of European aquariums, which are often the same few types of tanks over and over again.
@crocodylusniloticus4389FYI Visayan Warty Pig share with Philippines Spotted Deer
@Chris-gn5guI've been going to Whipsnade zoo since i was probably 3/4 years old. It's my favourite zoo ever and I'm so glad it's so close to where I live.
@sophie.louu_As someone who will probably never make it over to Europe I love these videos showing off all the cool facilities you guys have in English. I also love your commentary
PS: Please please please do Loro Parque, parrots are my passion and I’d love a good breakdown of the facility
Coooooooooog
@michaelabryan2626That's a hard one for me really, as I'm a member of ZSL and I do love London due to all of the history and the old buildings but I prefer Hoofstock so Whipsnade is a real gem for me. As a don't drive and I live on the other side of Bedfordshire so I have get 2 or 3 bus before 10am which is a done side I normally see nearly everything on my visits.
@Zombie9SlayerSimilar to Whipsnade has to be Yorkshire Wildlife Park or Cotswolds Wildlife park
@MichaelEdrupt-hk4loI was there recently and got on the train which is opposite the tiger enclosure. Whilst waiting for the train to start, a tiger climbed up to the top of the climbing frame and sat and watched us on the train. It was the most impressive site I have seen of a tiger in all the zoos I have visited. It gave me chills
@the_lawlessThank you so much for covering this zoo. I would love to film this zoo for my Youtube channel! There's an European section with wild boars, European bison and wolverines, a walkthrough penguin exhibit, tons of large hoofed mammal habitats, yaks, Sulawesi crested macaques, an aquarium and an impressive Asian elephant habitat. You definitely deserve more subscribers and I wish we could collaborate on a project someday!
@JacobFiveashThe best way to see Whipsnade and London is to do the zoo’s back to back or within a few days of each other so you get to see the whole collection together. I live a good distance from them but visit London fairly regularly and always do both zoo’s on a trip, sometimes do Whipsnade on the way down and on the way back home.
@paulholgate4664The reason for the aviary at the penguin enclosure is actually because of wasted food. The local seagulls used to swoop down and grab fish at feeding time, wasting thousands of pounds for the zoo each year!
@thedster1239Great Video!
@ERwargutAnother great example of this type of zoo is the Cabarceno Park in northern Spain, with 750 hectares. Highly recommended.
@rgg7194Did u miss out on the mountain bongo, sitatunga and gaur ?
@Jayh01Hi Martin, it always amazes me how well researched your videos are! Lots of numbers and dates are surely proof of that!
When it comes to recommendations then I would suggest zoos in Switzerland, of which I have visited only two: Basel and Zurich. I found them quite modern when I visited them when I was a kid, but that was more than thirty years ago... 😅
How many zoos are in Europe? Also brilliant video as usual
@CroccoChopsVery nice video. Thank you for that. Do you already know which park is coming next? I would like to see an aquarium or a typical German wildlife park (I don't even know if there are wildlife parks like the ones in Germany in other countries).
@zoofan_007Great video. I love your review of Whipsnade Zoo, and I am really excited for the tours of Chester Zoo and Yorkshire Wildlife Park. You should visit Oceanario de Lisboa and Zoological Lisboa in Portugal, and I hope you could do videos on Gaia Zoo, Burgers Zoo, and Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands, plus Pairi Daiza and Zoo Antwerp in Belgium. P.S.: For a new zoo, you should visit Barcelona Zoo in Spain or Highland Wildlife Park and Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland.
@NissanghmohanbabuAlso Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire, is about an hour and a half from Yorkshire Wildlife Park, it is a Theme Park as well as a reasonable sized zoo, much bigger than Chessingtons, it does have zoo days only in the winter months, if you go in the Theme Park season you need to book online 7 days in advance to get a good entrance rate, otherwise it is very expensive. They have a very nice train ride around the zoo and also a zoo monorail that goes round the Baboon enclosure. They have recently had a baby Hippo, they also keep endangered animals and are part of the European Breeding Programme. They are famous for keeping Flamingos and have three different types at two different locations in the park. I would also recommend Chester Zoo which is an excellent conservation zoo.
@marybradley7791Great video, i think you would really enjoy Yorkshire Wildlife Park which is on the outskirts of Doncaster in Yorkshire, UK. It was opened in 2009 and is set up as a walking safari style experience, the animals have plenty of space in a natural environment. There is a river running through it and a natural wetlands area as well as natural woodland areas. Yorkshire Wildlife Park took the Californian Sealions from Whipsnade as their housing had become too small for them, they built them two large filtered salt lakes with peppled and rock areas. Yorkshire Wildlife Park have specialised in endangered animals, they are the only zoo in the UK to have Rolloway Monkeys and the only zoo in England to have Red Howler Monkeys. They have six male Polar Bears which have very large enclosures built to give spare male Polar Bears the space they need to thrive. They also have recently rescued lions from the Ukraine, twice a mother with 3 cubs who went on to have 3 more and very recently two cubs and a single cub all about one years old who they are going to put together as another pride. They have three large lion enclosures at Yorkshire Wildlife Park as they previously rescued 13 lions from a run down zoo in Romania which were made up of three prides, they have now all died so they are using the space to rescue some more lions, they have called it Lion rescue 2 and Lion rescue 3. Yorkshire Wildlife Park is part of the European Breeding Programme and have bred Amur Leopards, Amur Tigers, Rhinos, Rolloway Monkeys. Lemurs, Cotton Top Tamerins, Giant Otters, Anteaters, Gelada Monkeys, Cheetahs, Bush Dogs, African Painted Dogs, Visian Warty Pigs, Spotted Hyienas, Baboons, Meercats, Camels, Californian Sealions, Wallabys, and Okapis. They have a hotel and retail area and a very good website if you want to see for yourself.
@marybradley77915:12 as an explanation for the aviary, most birds in the uk are kept in enclosure impossible to enter from the outside to stop them interacting with outside birds which can carry avian flu
@Wrong_One_To_Freak_WithA great zoo way better than London zoo
@footballislife1595Men, you gotta do a video covering ethics of zoos in general and specific animals housing in particular
@baryonx9463Thank you so much for doing this.
I used to visit every single zoo from appalling ones in 3rd world countries back in the 60’s and 70’s to San Diego and the great zoos of the Western world but age and finances has reduced my travels and I miss it very much.
No Père David’s deer?
@ggoannasI visted 2 Theme Park Zoos like Marwell Zoo & Chessington WOA.
@savvadance7006Good video! Will you make a video about diergaarde blijdorp too?
@thijmenwestra8180I liked the video and I thought your comments were fair, except that you missed the point about the Aquarium: ZSL's website is explicit "Our Whipsnade Aquarium is the first public aquarium in the UK dedicated to conserving threatened and Extinct-in-the-Wild freshwater fish". I wish that the Aquarium was larger, but the displays of some of their endangered species are first class. The Malagasy cichlids and the various Mexican splitfins and pupfishes are all very important for conservation and education.
@ahill8198Could you do some French zoos in your next videos please ? Even if I love discovering new facilities, I would enjoy to hear your feelings about some of the zoos I already visited !
@hbm3220Love the map showcasing amazing 🎉
@martinschwarz8423Can you visit Colchester zoo in Essex
@Rainzz-b6Bro should do a USA tour, last year I wrote the same comment and he even replied with there will be a tour but nothing happened. He has to visit US Zoos or at least Toronto
@thomaspiotrowski5226Amazing video as always ❤😊
@d.s.mokrys_artCan you visit randers regnskov in Denmark? and I like your
