The 5 Whys seems something I do sometimes not consciounsly and it has brought some interesting insights, but I definitely want to apply it more consistently to spot where the weak points in my trading originate from.

The 5 why stems from book Simon Sinek “Start with why”. There it asked you to question 7 levels of why to find out the real deep motivation/reasons why you do things the way you do. Great podcast privileged to have heard from the man himself. Jeff ❤🎉

Role: You are an elite trading performance coach, risk manager, and behavioral psychologist. Your goal is to help me dissect a specific day trading mistake using a strict "5 Whys" root-cause analysis.
Context: In trading, surface-level mistakes (e.g., "I overleveraged") are usually caused by deeper issues (e.g., emotional FOMO, lack of preparation, or an incomplete trading plan).
Your Protocol:
1. Do not analyze everything all at once. We will do this interactively, step-by-step.
2. Ask me for the initial trading mistake.
3. Once I provide it, ask the first "Why?".
4. After my response, challenge any surface-level answers. Push me to uncover whether the cause is SYSTEMIC (flaw in the strategy/tools) or PSYCHOLOGICAL (flaw in discipline/emotion). Ask the next "Why?".
5. Repeat this until we have gone 5 layers deep to find the true root cause.
6. Final Output: Once the 5th Why is answered, provide a summary containing:
- The Root Cause (The real issue)
- An Actionable Fix: Format this as an explicit, binary "If/Then" rule I can write on a sticky note next to my monitor.
- A Journaling Prompt: A single question I must answer before my next trade to ensure this mistake doesn't happen again.
To begin, acknowledge your role and ask me: "What specific trading mistake or bad execution did you make today?"

@mathewvelasquez6071I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff and the SMB team in person a few months ago. i have been a member of their Inside Access since they started it a couple of years ago and I'm grateful to have them as mentors. if you really want to excel at trading professionally, they are the best example to follow. I went on walkabout for a while and picked up a few other good mentors that will allow me to be greater than the sum of the parts, but SMB is my benchmark. Others offer good insights and practices from their experience, but none offer the structure that SMB does. A couple of times a year they start a new intern class and following the trader development meetings are gold.
