Indian foreign policy is in free fall. Can we balance national pride with a new power reality?

Video Overview & Insights

Unless US President Donald Trump’s tariff threats are primarily a negotiating ploy, India’s foreign policy has run into a virtual abyss. It faces its greatest crisis since 1998, when India conducted nuclear tests and was subjected to international isolation --Ashutosh Varshney, Sol Goldman Professor of International Studies and the Social Sciences and Professor of Political Science at Brown University, explains in this week's column for ThePrint

American NRIs are most greedy and cowards. They want India to seek its future and farmers to USA so that they can live better life there. India is doing well by standing firm to threats and bullying.

There is no free fall, with situation we need to change our strategies, in reality we don't know which strategy works? People always criticise irrespective of what govt do.

Complete and utter shambles to go to bed with China who are India’s enemy number one. We have an ever increasing trade deficit with China and become dependent on them. We have lost clarity on our stance about Russian transgressions and similarly Israel.

Indians be like:
“America is our soulmate! Best friends forever 🇺🇸❤️”
— 2 weeks later —
“You know what? China’s not that bad. Maybe we misjudged them. Let’s give communism a chance 🇨🇳✨”
Girgit bhi sharma jaaye itne rang badalte dekh ke. 🦎
Foreign policy? More like mood swings with a passport.

😂😂😂😂😂... where do we get bufoons like this. Now that SCO is done and the Bharatiya kootniiti has done its thing...are ypu ready to put egg.on you face...? Print and its management has been known to be educated in places like Factshala...a media literacy initiative linked to Internews and reportedly funded by USAID, George Soros's Open Society Foundation, and other organizations with political affiliations. Internews has long been linked with the CIA and this has been documented by several scholarly sources.

Gonna be honest, this is a pretty stupid take if you think it's India's foreign police that is in "free fall".

The leftists in India really are circling the drain these days, the same drain low IQ Trump supporters are in.

My suggestion to India. Israel funds Jewish lobby groups in the USA. So USA supports whatever Israel does.

India should fund multiple Indian lobby groups. Mostly made of naturalized Indians. From different religions and backgrounds. The goal is to lobby for favorable policies for India.

Israel knows the long term and invested heavily on this strategy

Most Indian live happily in USA...
not in China or Russia.... But,
Mody govt prefered
Ambani to gain from
Russian oil, rather than middle class workers in tirupur or Gujarat or elsewhere in India...

Pak has better diplomatic deals with both China and America...
We lost in Diplomacy but brag otherwise in media.. shamelessly..like typical BJP mediamen.

@anandasatya483

India can align with Afghanistan, Russia and even China with whom we have a border conflict. India can humble themselves even before our enemy country like China. But our foreign political intellectuals can't find a way to negotiate with America. India is just a country with a boat load of ego.

Actually thy are on the right track. It shows how corrupt these journalists and western educated indians are. Ashutosh Varshney, Sol Goldman Professor of International Studies and the Social Sciences and Professor of Political Science at Brown University. The title itself says a lot. these are lobbying agents on bahalf of west. the do not care about people of India. they are paid well enough to do this job.

Sticking like a rock to Putin with entire export market on the line was a proud, foolish idea. Putin is an arrogant dictator who launched an unprovoked military attack on Ukrainian civilians..and India has benefitednfrommlow pil prices for 3 years now. We shouldnt have stretched on the luvk when the world is trying to contain madman Putin and is saying Indianis funding his war.

Time will tell.Every economist know these type of trade war with mixing politics is unsustainable at the core.Indian foreign policy stands at the right time for long term gain.
