02:03-3:17: Miami’s history

03:17-9:45: Tech and finance come to the 305

Housing subsidies will be the fastest way to destroy house construction. Most of New York was built in the 1940’s, they haven’t done much in 80 years cause there is no economic incentive, only penalties and obligations.

— @s4098429

9:45- 12:48: Florida’s tax laws

12:48-15:53 : Miami’s expensive, dog

So great seeing Billy Corben on here. This captures him as a person perfectly.

Love the LIBS tax equity. the rich don't have income they have capital gains.

@guod1973

If you are making less than $20,000 as a family, you are likely getting housing support, food support and other benefits from federal and state gov. You would also be getting earned income tax credits where fed gov gives you money back on your taxes. Approx 50% of country pays no income tax.
I’d like to see how they come up w low income paying higher taxes. With no state income and fed income tax, are they getting to this conclusion through sales tax and property tax being a larger percent of income? They better be adding back in gov benefits to total disposable income. Our inaccurate poverty data in U.S. only uses income and doesn’t include all the benefits that could take a family from 20k to 40k per year. Still tough to live on in Miami.

So just ignore reality and stay in your left wing bubble, New York City is a mess and its housing policies made thatworse

@GoodWorkMB You’re ill-informed on economic matters. Florida has the best economic policies in the country. That’s why they rank so high in economic freedom, why the job market is doing so well, and why the unemployment rate is so low.

Your economist friend is a weasel with no integrity, she’s being intentionally misleading. Sales/Use taxes apply the same rate to everyone, and the wealthy, with far more disposable income, pay FAR more in absolute dollars on both necessities and luxuries. So while the poor may spend a larger fraction of their income, the rich ultimately contribute FAR more in total taxes. No income tax, no estate tax is good for everyone .. not just the rich.

14:31 be real about why insurance is hard to find in Florida though: regulatory capture. Here’s why no one in Florida has insurance:

1. The insurance company executives create new companies they also own called “business process optimization”, that externalize and charge inflated prices for things the insurance company did in-house, like regular business administration

2. This siphons off all of the premium dollars, then they go insolvent, and the state of Florida-backed insurer of last resort, Citizens, picks up the policies. Because they created the inflated prices for “business services” in the first place, they can falsely claim that “(artificially) increased” business operations costs are what made them go insolvent

3. The same insurance executives that cheated the loophole start new insurance companies, buying policies from Citizens at pennies on the dollar

4. They do it all over again, using the loophole as wealth extraction. The politicians turn a blind eye and blame “excessive litigation” instead of stopping this known cheating of consumers

So let me get this straight... a bunch of immigrants from another country, 50 years ago, came to Miami and made it a hybrid culture of their original country and the US, and now, that culture is being lost to literal american people moving there and that's somehow... a bad thing?

Your channel is funny af but you don't understand the economy. The wealthy continue to pay the vast majority of the taxes in the country, even when their effective tax rate is lower than other classes.
