@kdjets10:24 bro the puppets being cool is not a merit of the movie at all , they totally ripped off the style of that one dinosaur sitcom from the 90s made by Jim Henson (muppets creator) , it was his last project and despite dying a year before the release , he spent the last months of his life finally working on his vision: Dinosaurs (it was really important to him and he had been trying to greenlit ever since he had the ideia years before , but execs didn't believe a mature cartoony show would ever work ... until Simpsons came along and proved them wrong ) .
Apparently this stupid movie employed people that worked on the show , that's why they look similar ... I remember watching this movie as kid assuming it was a spin off from the show... I was disappointed, the show is really good and I'm surprised neither you nor the comments mentioned it , maybe it was a bigger hit outside the US ? Im from Brazil and everybody , even gen z knows this show .
