Ive been on the full premium. Costing far too much. Unaware of lite, never used music.
My habits. I use my iPad to quickly search for stuff I want to watch then either play in the background(?) while using games and apps (I’m a patient in hospital a lot) or cast the selected video to the tv and continue from there.
If I choose a video on the iPad and then try to send/cast to tv, will it let me or do I need to use search etc on the tv itself.
Can I get around restrictions by using apps on my iPad and searching etc and watching YouTube on my mobile phone?

I cancelled premium lite and didnt notice a difference in ads being fewer. I paid for zero difference in the amount of ads. Plus, just reload the video and it usually skips ads.

we’ve gotten it for free for a long time and most subscription services are more expensive… Apple TV you end up having their productions and “ access “tell all sorts of shows that are in fact on other streaming platforms and you have to pay for. Youtube has been better though the lack of series is too bad, the subscription services becoming like the production companies of yesteryear: Paramount, Warner Brothers etc. Youtube thinking they can compete with a 10$ Apple Music app that enables playlists and songs for alarms etc was the mistake with premium. Yes we are getting what we used to not have to pay for BECAUSE ads are moving into their own videos anyway and perhaps that is why the change…everyone skipped the ads in the videos so advertisers said screw this we are going to make our own videos and Youtube lost revenue …i tried to let the ads play through or at least clicked the visit sponsor/advertiser when I could but wasn’t patient enough like apparently most people cause we could have kept youtube “Free” not ad free but without subscription.

Most podcasts stream without ads on other platform so that's a hard sell. I get why they would have ads on music but it's a paid service, so, I don't plan to pay- to still get ads, even if longer form videos would nix them.
Does Lite cover movies?

People in this world don't ever balance out their businesses with the people that pay more so than they give some people a better experience or an experience that they can afford to have. @GreensnGuitarsI used premium for 9 years price went up so I cancelled and began experiencing the ads so I got Premium lite and let me tell you it is a$$ literally still has ads, no background play. Same experience with ads and premium lite don’t buy it

@rit1cheaBeen a full premium subscriber since Youtube Red, I almost exclusively watch long form videos (Though I'm increasingly checking them out), and generally I only listen to music if I just really have a hankering to hear a certain song, but never as a 'leave it on in the background' kind of thing. Just got an email saying they;re increasing my membership TWO DOLLARS, which is freaking ridiculous. It;s already twice what it was when I started.
Given that I'm not a heavy music user, I'm probably going to downgrade. Honestly I probably should have the second it became available, but I was happy to pay a little more because I watch SO MUCH youtube that I still felt like I was getting a decent value.
And I probably would have continued paying too much if they hadn't come and jacked the price even more.
And yeah, I can hear the "Just use adblock' people now. A: I like that the people whose videos I watch get a piece of my subscription fee so I'm still supporting them, and B: I watch from my phone a LOT and there's no adblock for the youtube app
Regardless, it looks like I'm downgrading. Ironically they could have kept taking an extra $5 from me every month, but because they wanted an extra $2, now they're losing out.
Good explanation. I currently have "premium premium" that I only signed up for 6 months ago. Today I received notification that subscription is going up by $2 per month. Since I don't watch music videos, don't need background play and can live without shorts, I'm going to give premium light a try. Thanks for the video.
@same5952For me it's all about the classical and jazz music. I will be in a deeply emotional album or concerto and an add will pop up directly in the middle of the performance and be 3x louder. I also like the background play

@bretts6127For a multi billion company, the best their marketing team can come up with for pricing is "premium lite" and "premium premium" 😅 it's as if they literally woke up from bed, drank coffee and had a quick 3 minute meeting as what to call their subscription model 😅 it's so darn vague that I feel it was done course to confuse and misdirect customers and many opt in for premium premium instead of premium lite. wtf???

@MrHowardMoonsorry but the most bs part of premium lite is the fact that background play isn't supported in lite. this is top tier garbage. if a device is capable of doing it, it shouldn't cost to just do it. i think they recently changed this because as soon as this new update rolled out i was ready to cancel my subscriptions with them entirely. recently i noticed some videos started playing in the background though and it seems the "what's included" got changed to: on "some videos" for background play. which someone would need to explain to me why its not on all videos. we know its not hard to implement because when i didn't have premium for a bit it would sometimes glitch out and accidently keep playing in the background/ it would almost be a win for me if they could just keep background play. i don't want to have to leave my phone open and on to keep a video going while I'm driving. if I'm going to have to listen to ads then I'm just going to listen to Spotify not pay more to google
@martinvargas1346I signed up for Premium Lite since I do not watch music. However, I was still getting ads at the beginning, during video and after video so I verified this purchase went through. On my iPhone it said it had - indicated the free trial time frame and when my card would be charged for $7.99. I looked on my computer and it showed no memberships. I am so confused. I have reached out to YouTube, but haven't heard anything. I would cancel it if I could find out where I can since it says "no memberships" grrrrr

One good thing of stopping paying for YouTube premium recently is that there are now so many adverts that my use of YouTube has dropped dramatically
As for apple tax, don't forget the Google tax in services like Tidal - sign up directly and you don't pay Google tax.

@CrandonContractorsI bought YouTube premium lite to try it out. It still has ads, I can't play music in the background like I wanted, and had ads in their music videos. It is not worth it if you want no ads and listen to music on youtube.

@se7en910The fact they block background play outside the US... if you don't get ads on that video because it doesn't contain licensed music under YouTube licensing... it shouldn't require background play for those ads.
Music costs money, yes; but youtube is overpriced if you weren't already going to pay for some music streaming service.
If you were going to pay for music streaming anyway, then it is a good deal, because you essentially get both for half the price.
