I Tried Tokyo's CHEAPEST Restaurants 🇯🇵 5 Meals Under $10 | Budget Japan

Video Overview & Insights

We dine at 5 budget restaurant chains in Tokyo that are worth your money.

Budget dining in Japan doesn't mean sacrifices on taste or quality. In this whirlwind day out in Tokyo, we explore 5 of Japan's cheapest budget restaurants around the city in a day - each with a budget of $10 (well technically it's $6.70 but the number sounds a tad clunky in the title). Enjoy!
And thanks to Tabelog for sponsoring our big day out - if you're travelling Japan and want to book a decent restaurant without the hassle (or fear) of picking up a phone, be sure to check them out! ✨TABELOG: https://tabelog.com/en/?cid=inb_pr_aij_yt_insert1

I find that whenever I watch these fantastic videos I now need to have a plate of sushi in front of me to satiate my desire for Japanese food. However, I'm in need of some proper instruction in how to use chopsticks. Chris, please help.

Wild, Ootoya is pretty luxurious stuff around Taiwan, i couldn’t afford to eat there once a week with my minimum wage 😂

These are some of my staple places when im in the country. Whenever i tell people i get mixed reactions, mostly from foreigners wondering why i would go to these when you have all the fancier touristy spots. The truth is you get way more value for your money at these (kind of the point) and the food isnt that much worse if it even is at all. That and i can actually eat my fill while spending less since my appetite is large compared to the portion sizes at most places

Exactly. Budget in all other countries means nothing but shit.

Not the curious busieness man walking by checking to see if someone is chasing you because of the way you walked into Ootoya. Lol

Come to think of it, I've never seen Chris Broad cook a Japanese food, nor show groceries of raw ingredients for their prices.
I know it's easier to lose weight when you're cooking for yourself because you know how many calories each and everything you eat, so when you're going out to eat, it's rare to see a restaurant that show how much calories a meal contains. And even then if they include the information, it seems like they include an additional fee for basic human health kindness.

So if there's a rare idea that Christopher B. can take, is to cook a Japanese meal that an average Japanese person cooks for themselves or their family. That is something that tourists cannot do though, which is Christ Bavarian's target audience. Maybe a B-roll while explaining something about Japan's societal problem?

"how do they have such good food at such low prices"
well, they probably don't pay their employees very well

We have an Ippudo here in LA. Same pork tonkotsu broth ramen, unfortunately with a much higher price tag. Its like $20 vs the $6 in japan.

I looooove Yoshinoya 💖💖💖

I have now had Yoshinoya, Sukiya and Matsuya. All are good, cheap and surprisingly big serves for the price. I think my favourite dish from all three was Yoshinoya's sukiyaki bowl. I first had it in Matsuyama and really liked it. I had again in Ueno and Nagoya (where the shop was practically under the tv tower and thankfully there was no Mothra or Godzilla). With the generous vegies it is easy to pretend that it is healthy.

yes please, don't talk about Ootoya, I want my peace being the only "non japanese" around (proceeds to sneak in Ootoya). Show them places like torikizoku, yoshinoya, or any other XD

Went, last year, to a few Yoshinoya - a raw egg on yer Gyudon is a must - and it's my favourite. I even went after going to Lost. Go F*ck yourself and the cheese platter made me hungry for Gyudon.

The first menu looks like a cookbook😮

In Germany one bowl of rice as a side dish costs 5€ or one 0.5l glass of coke(and you don't even know if it's the original coca cola, because they prepare it in the back)

Visited Japan with my wife and her family last year. We got lunch for four people at a restaurant in Kyoto for the equivalent of about £15, and it was really tasty

Also shout-out to the Japanese man at the next table who on hearing me say “Itadakimasu” before eating enquired whether I was Japanese. Despite my 6ft 4 height, light hair, blue eyes, and white skin

I would probably only eat at Gusto if I lived there. 10 dollars is crazy for that.

3:47 They can give you the food for cheap because it contains very little of the actual meat. It's 90% vegetables, soup, and rice.

Does Chris include tax in the price? Because technically the Gusto meal was like 60 over 1000 or so. Also, it's sad that there is no Ootoya in Shikoku (except Kochi apparently).

Just returned home from a trip to Japan (family of 4) and tried almost all of these suggestions, great food all around and would not have tried them if not for this video, great tips, just what one is looking for when travelling and looking for simple, yet delicious options where to have food!

Nothing beats Saizeriya, though in bang for the buck. Even the alcohol is pretty cheap there. My two sons really eat without any restraint and Saize is the only place where they can fill up their stomachs without having to worry about budgetary constraints. And on top of it, it's really good. We even buy their Olive oil for home cooking, because it's cheap and super tasty.

So ootoya is a japanese version of amercia's panda express. Theres better chinese food but if you on a budget and want a consistent chinese dish panda is always there for you in all 50 states.
