I Tested Revolut's 5 Plans... Here's What's Worth It For Travel

Video Overview & Insights

Revolut now has a full UK banking licence and over 13 million customers. But which Revolut plan is actually worth it for travel? In this video I break down every Revolut tier from the free Standard plan to the £660/year Ultra, covering RevPoints earn rates, foreign exchange fees, airport lounge access, travel insurance, eSIM data, and the hidden weekend markup most people don't know about. Each plan gets a travel value score so you can see exactly what you're getting for your money.

but Revolut also comes with serious security issues

I expected completely different video. Maybe an excel comparison and some graphs/tables that compare it to other banks, not just an overview of what we already read in our apps. So, my random bank credit card, that I pay 3€ for per year, or I pay interest on credit, already has insurance.... so I save 17€ every single month. Revolut offers subscriptions? Half of them are not even needed. I genuinely don't see a reason to pay for Revolut. Metal should be 1-2€ per month to stay competitive.
Yes the app is amazing, but not worth 200+€ every year. Thats 100x from a regular bank. And you can buy eSims easily on trips...

I am a commercial pilot, and I travel 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, and with my Rev Ultra plan (EU-based) I've saved so much on fees, and their other perks like Nord VPN, FT, eSIM, Dulingo, Wolt delivery and all the insurance... all of them combined is worth the 50 EUR I pay per month.

Don’t forget that the saving rates already gets way better on the metal tier actually if you have some savings on there the metal tear pays itself off rather quickly purely by giving you the interest increase. Also don’t forget the free stock trades you get as well as the crypto discount when you going at a higher tear. I noticed that the metal tear gives me and I think in general the best value to price ratio. The 75B pre ipo valuation is a bit to high in my view,…

Thank you for the tier comparison!
tl;dr depends on personal circumstances. Mostly, on traveling abroad frequency.

The travel insurance on the Metal Tier is only on bookings made with your Revolut card though which is a huge negative

I guess most of these options are available only to the UK because I don’t have them in my account.

I have Ultra. Reasons are mainly the limit in FX transactions and the FT subscription. These two alone cover more than in full the cost.

I just don’t understand why you’d do any of this. My chase Sapphire does all that and I get better rewards. Granted, it’s a US card, but for $100/year I think I get 0 international transaction fees everywhere, always. I live in the UK and the only thing I’ve ever used my UK card for is paying my council tax. Everything goes on the chase card. I get 2% on transport, and that’s the biggest portion of my expenses. I spend Ā£13/day minimum on trains. I travel a ton, I’ve been to 8 countries in 2026 alone and I get 5% back on all of that. I can redeem my points on anything. Flights, trips, cash back, Apple, anything. They never expire. I’ve got like 200k points saved up that I’m going to use on a holiday to Japan. The travel insurance is better with chase too. Need multiple currencies in one account? The HSBC global money account is free. It’s beyond easy to use and has a really good rate—that’s how I send my money between USD and GBP back and forth. This is all just unnecessary.

I have ultra and the perks are great, but the customer service is absolutely terrible. They just randomly freeze your account and then you have to fight against the AI bots for weeks to get it back.

I've got Rev Black. I use the FT, NordVPN and PerplexityPro. But the biggest savings come from the 10 commission free stocks/shares trades per month. I recently bought and sold 5 x Micron (MU) shares over 14 days for a total fee of 10 cents. ANd, $5,000 GOOGL sold for $0.01 fee. Once you use your 10 free trades, the commission is ridiculously low. Just don't use Revolut for trading crypto - the fees are extortionate and the spreads horrendous - you have to see a >20/25% price movement to make a profit. It's OK if yor HODLing.

Great video!
I’m an Ultra member for over a year now, I’m pretty happy with the card in combination with my Amex Platinum. The only thing that I think should be added to the Ultra plan is the +1 to the lounge access 😢

You did something wrong, premium includes travel insurances like emergency health insurance, delayed flights, lost luggage, disrupted flights, and some other insurances like cancelled events, and theft damage for a longer period of time (at least 1-2 years so since 2024 at minimum) Because that was my reason to mitigate the travel insurance fees for my 2 longer international trip in a year (about 80€ at that time) and at the upload date of this video, Revolut was already offering subscriptions, and alone nordvpn was already a lot more than just the plan itself, and recently they put perplexity pro, lovable, duolingo ect so imo for 7-8€ per month for premium, is a hell of a deal especially with these subscriptions, and compared to metal which is almost the double in monthly fees we just get better rev point per spent money and 1gb monthly e-sim, and a few for me useless subscriptions, so for me it's clear premium > metal, if you want more then rather get ultra

@hun_benc3523

You missed the key negative for the travel insurance on metal. You have to book the holiday through using a revolut card. Or at least 75%.

I book holidays on a credit card for the additional protection it affords.

By missing this key point you are misinforming your audience or maybe that's deliberate....

@dosti5390

I run a small international tour agency and the Revolut business is a game changer. We deal n about 10 currencies and as long as you avoid the weekend fx trap this blows away any other bank. Just moving to Revolut for my personal travel - either metal or ultra

@gordonhowell9701
@

I disagree about the Plus tier. For me it is worth it, you get much more headroom with the currency conversion, no 1% weekend fees and more importantly the app benefits like Nord, Tinder etc. It's a nice inbetween if you don't care about travel insurance.

@SteinerZi
@

I’ve been using Revolut Metal for a few years, and as an expat who travels frequently around Southeast Asia, I’m really happy with my plan. My monthly fee is covered by points, though I did prefer the cash option back in the day!

@TheExpatInsiderAsia

If I was going to UK for a weekend (I am in a Euro country), I would change the currency before I go when it's free. So what you are describing does not affect me.

I have a Rev Card in Ultra member and I make between 10€ to 35€ every month in RevPoints
Plus I used 1 every 2 month the vip lunch
Plus uber one and Tinder and perplexity
I’m super happy and now 1-2 weeks they add more free membership like Duolingo

I have a revolut card and at one point got a promo premium free upgrade for 3 months. I liked the premium tier then eventually downgraded back to standard and kept the card i got when i was premium. Revolut is amazing.

@sachaobado118
@

I have had Ultra for couple years now. I genuinely missed some of the benefits.

For me just the free BUSINESS CLASS upgrades have been worth it, rev points from purchases -> Avios -> Business upgrade.
The card pays itself back multiple times over in various tiny and bigger perks.

Note tho; Perks are time bound, you need VPN to renew them while travelling. the eSim is complete garbage, it is useless. Does not work most of the time, and when it does it is like 256Kbps. If it worked reliably, then for emergencies only due to weak speed, but it isn't reliable ....

Just get the ultra, don't penny pinch if you travel at all or use any of the subscriptions.

@skaltura
@

a mistake has been made in the video, probably due to revolut's misleading description, when exchanging currency on week days it is not the interbank rate that is applied but the "revolut interbank rate" which is like 1% worse than the interbank rate and on weekends it ontop of this revolut rate the the additional 1% is applied

@mistgun
@

I have Metal as a piece to my whole travel paggege. The problem with Ultra is that all frequent flyers/travellers have lounge access through airlines loyalty schemes making the card way to expensive.
Revolut should offer two tier Ultra with or without lounge or make their own lounges like Amex, for it to be interesting for "teal" frequent fliers.

This was enlightening. I haven't had time or desire to take such a deep dive, so thanks.
With just a few international trips a year, there's some value for me with the free card, and that's just fine. Cheers

Lounges are different in other countries. In Italy with the free plan access costs €34, €24 with premium and it's free on higher plans

Great video and I agree with everything you said. I have been a Revolut customer from day one and am a metal plan card holder (out of the French program though) . Also have my AMEX Platinum and the combination of the two works a treat!

@pguign
@

I have 20,000 rev points an don't know how to best spend them, I travel 3-5 times per year. Can you make a video about redeeming and maximizing value from rev points

@sinnnanoraa
@

The travel insurance is only valid if you fly in and out of the same county and your trip is less than 30 days. If you for example go on a backpacking trip and fly into Thailand and fly out via Vietnam the insurance wont cover you. The free subscriptions from the cards are also very location and job dependent. If you aren't working as a young professional or in tech in the biggest UK cities most of the perks are useless. That being said revolut is still my go to card for travel. I upgrade to metal when I go travelling and then downgrade when I return home.

Dollar is not weak, neither strong nor weak — it is neutral, stable, and right in the middle of its long‑term range.

i have metal for over a year now and it's great, 10 free trades, no cap currency conversions for free. it's a nobrainer. the subscriptions as you mentioned are great too. rev points are 1:1 on metal (at leas twhere i live), i've got some good vouchers out of it making online shopping cheaper. buying US shares in USD requires exchanging money first, having the option to do this for free is the main reason i have this. paying the plan 1 year in advance also offers a hefty discount compared to the monthly payment. it's absolutely worth it even if you don't travel at all. i used the lounge access once when coming back from asia 2 years ago. great experience. still no cheap but what you get for the money is worth it compared to airport restaurants. endless food and drink :D
