8:28 isnt that scary? Time flying faster feels like you exist less seconds...
That is the core of my addiction to yt. Without it days fly away quick. But with it i am exposed to hundreds stories and a single day feels like a week.

100%. April marked 1 year since I deleted tiktok. Just three days ago I deleted instagram off my phone and I haven't been on it since. I still have access on my computer, but I have no desire. Ever since deleting tiktok, I've been slowly acclimating myself to life without it. Detoxing. I noticed my brain started to wake up again. It was hard at first. Really hard. It really is quitting a drug, you get withdrawals. I was more anxious, more easily irritated and overstimulated. My family noticed the change in me. It took me a while to identify the cause.
After a rough summer, some deep reflecting, and finally finding a job to fill my hours with, I started to ease back into reality. I started writing again, reading again, researching again. I've gone down rabbit holes like nuclear physics, radiation, marine biology, written drafts and outlines of various essays regarding social media's effect on society from social, economic, and political standpoints. My brain so quickly showed me that it is more curious and more capable then I thought possible. It always had been. I just had to quit a pretty hardcore drug to remember. I never want to go back. It's getting much easier not to.

I have been trying absolutely everything to get off my computer and phone and I actually have a means to do so. I can leave my tech at my university in my locker and create an environment at home in which I focus on acts outside of technology. I just need to take the jump and create friction. I have so many hobbies; cooking, baking, playing the cello, lifting, running, crocheting, reading, writing. There is so much I'd rather be doing than watching youtube, and honestly, watching this video. The problem with social media and technology in general is there exists virtually no resistance. If i want to practice my cello, I need to get my instrument out, warm up, decide what to work on, decide how I will work on it, etc. To cook a delicious meal, I need to find a recipe, shop for ingredients, put everything together, and clean my kitchen afterwards. Doomscrolling takes nothing. Watching youtube takes nothing.
I want life to be effortful because that is how it should be. Today, I will leave my computer in my locker at university.

@gaspifilmsI switched to a super old phone about 15 months ago... I can't go on IG, I can't see email, I can see Messenger, but no DMs... It's also tiny... so I don't want to watch things... It's also low memory (this is the hardest part, but maybe the best part...) I have to think twice before taking a pic or video... anyway... haven't been on IG in omg might be over half a year now... TikTok forget it... Facebook, yes, but living abroad, you still wanna see or talk to ur homies who aren't WhatsApp users, aka Canadians, hahahaha. E-Mail me, bro, I have an idea for you.
@robertalexanderquinn90447 min and up... yes. F* yes. happy for u.

@slashingbison2503I'm at the point where I just deleted and blocked every scrolling or social media app off my phone except for YouTube, only because I pay for it bundled with YT Music premium. I also blocked all YT shorts.
I so badly want to keep up with friends on Instagram but I've been through this about 3 times before, "ok I'm going to reinstall Instagram but only use it for messaging" and then a week later magically the reels blocker has turned off and I'm back at it.
My conclusion is I just have to stay away from all of it, and even being down to only streaming services it's still not perfect. But really the toughest part is not being able to keep up with people whose numbers I dont have or who I don't get to see often.
100%!
I clicked on this video because I too am on a journey to recover my time and fix my screen addiction, and imagine my surprise when I realized a couple minutes in that this is filmed in the town in living in! So, howdy neighbor! Maybe I should do the exact same thing and also store my Brick at the top of Lyons Bluff π Super inspired by your journey, even more so that we're neighbors. So far, the time I have recovered I have been spending by dancing, creating art, and hula hooping more. It feels so validating to see myself improving my skills in these areas, and it motivates me to keep it up.

@mesomonsterThese videos piss me off because he doesnβt mention the real first step, which is to 1. Live in an isolated, absolutely beautiful area. 2. Work a job where you make bank and choose your hours. There are so many people who cannot do that whatsoever.
@thepuggest4202How do you film your videos like that?? The video style looks so warm and welcoming! How do you get the clips to look like that?
@SimonZaloumGoing by the title alone, if youβre leaving social media for any reason should it matter if anyone else cares? I left it 4 years ago and I donβt miss it and couldnβt care less what anyone thought about it.
