I Ranked San Francisco's BEST Neighborhoods (Tier List)

Video Overview & Insights

I ranked San Francisco's best neighborhoods in a tier list. Do you agree with my rankings?

How weird that the Mission District, the Haight Ashbury District, Cole Valley, Hayes, and the Castro were left out. Those places offer real shopping opportunities that are walkable with some spectacularly beautiful Victorian architecture and ease of transport. Weird…..

It's disappointing to hear you call Bayview/Hunter's Point a terrible neighborhood, "worse or the worse." We bought a home there two years ago; community there feels good, many families, more people of color and diverse experiences, with a lot of potential and one of the few enclaves where black people still own their homes (despite the lack of affordability). Homelessness and crime is nowhere near what is seen in the Mission, Civic Center, and even North Beach. Calling the area terrible is perpetuating the stigma that contributes to the lack of investment. The ranking seems very targeted towards a specific financial and background profile, and much less generalized.

Had to remind myself that this is a real estate salesman’s “best and worst” list, which may have more to do with his potential commissions than with livability, safety, or diversity. Leaving out the best places for many of us along the way.

I have to agree with some others. I appreciate that you mention multiple times that these are the neighborhoods you like, that its subjective. But the truth of San Francisco is that you find the community you love the best. For me it is Ashbury Heights, where I lived for many years. Also, must say, there is a straight white male yuppie bias that doesn't represent such a diverse and multicultural city. If I was returning to San Francisco and won the lottery, I would love to live on Russian or Telegraph Hill but honestly, how many people can afford it? And while St. Francis Wood is a stunning area, you pick it over West Portal, which in fact is a much more engaging community with not just the commercial area but the fast connection to downtown via underground Muni. St. Francis Wood is much more car dependent. I lived in Pacific Heights for 3 years and enjoyed it, but found it a bit crowded, lots of traffic, little bang for the buck and frankly, pretentious. I was much happier in the Ashbury Heights/Cole Valley area which had a much stronger sense of community than Pacific Heights and again, easy underground Muni access.

Kudos to you for attempting a near-impossible task. But as others have indicated, some problems in execution. There are many San Franciscans in the neighborhoods who infrequently go downtown, and proximity simply isn't an issue. And your A and S lists are almost entirely based on housing that is outside the budget of even San Franciscans who are doing well financially.

I’m a lawyer turned San Francisco real estate agent and real estate developer who has lived in the Bay Area for over a decade, giving me in-depth, first-hand experience in the Bay Area housing market and lifestyle. If you’re thinking of buying or selling a home in SF or Marin, just visiting San Francisco on vacation, or want more information about the SF housing market, then this channel is for you!

❤Lake street district but true it’s not quickly accessible to shops and restaurants. Same applies to sea cliff but the homes and views are as fabulous as you say. St Francis wood is gorgeous and peaceful as if Forest Hill( not extension) but there is rapid transit nearby to the heart of the city if you want to live in the neighborhood. Having lived in Pacific Heights and spending time mostly there and Presidio Hghts I agree that accessibility to shops restaurants, etc is unbeatable.

Apparently the neighborhoods that youn rated higher are more favorable to your lifestyle and not truly a fair and unbiased comparison. You do iterate your preferences in your rankings, but there are “diamonds in the rough.”

I Lived in the Bay Area my whole life and always wanted to live in SF. As I got older and made more money I began to realize the cost of living in SF was rising way faster than my income was rising. Now I’m in my 40’s making the most money I ever made in my life and still would be considered low income if I moved to SF which I couldn’t do because it’s too expensive. Oh Well… Maybe if I win the lottery

@jaymeez

lol the comments on this video are emblematic of the dogmatism that’s hurt the city for the past decade. Get over yourselves

@williambrackett7100

Most of the neighborhoods he mentions are for people with limitless budgets.

I can definitely tell that you haven't lived here long enough when you put the sunset towards the bottom of your list.

@SlayerHobbs
@

This dude listed the most boring neighborhoods as A and S tier, while leaving the best neighborhoods completely off the list. If you lived in those neighborhoods you would be frequently leaving them to do anything.

If you want big secluded homes, there is much better places to be than SF.

Bay View and Tenderloin are the worse...MY FAVORITE IS THE NOE VALLEY---and I am a native...

San Francisco Bay is the best neighborhood. 2nd best? The Richmond District, around 96th Avenue and Fulton, a great view of the Pacific ocean.

@eaglestrike1000

So long as your close to catching the bus on Geary, you can get downtown easily.

Im all for sharing good and bad places to inform the viewer but this is an incredibly biased and narrow view with a huge obvious marina skew, you're def not from here. Completely leaving out and not even mentioning the mission and the castro, arguably the two most famous neighborhoods of SF, is baffling. Not to mention skipping North Beach, chinatown, japantown, SOMA, dog patch, bernal heights, glen park, excelsior, ingleside, inner sunset, to name a few. The only thing I agree with is the D tier, spot on.

@jong2991

Sounds like a Pacific Heights Stan 😂 lol you cited Alta plaza park many times and your other vids are filmed there. I appreciate as a resident there

Didn’t know about Jordan Park or Lake Street or Sea Cliff/Saint Francis Wood before I saw this video

@crazy4corbinbleux

Your list is flawed, clearly shows you're not orignally from San Francisco. You forgot to mentioned Balboa terrace, Ingleside terrace, Parkside, Glen Park, Crocker Amazon and Forest Hill, these are good neighborhood.

@tomc878

I often find his content helpful and on-target. However, I definitely don't agree with weighting a subjective metric such as "being close to Marin" so heavily while grading neighborhoods concretely. By that logic, what grade does Pac Heights get dropped to for not being convenient to SFO for travelers? The subjectivity scale he applies sort of did a disservice to where I think he was going with this.

Any thoughts on folks who will work in Mission Bay where to rent? Finding a great building with amenities is tricky.

Some corrections: it takes around 15 mins by muni train to Powell from west portal

@JunkDonkey-n6j
@

Some corrections: It is true west portal /sunset is more foggy, but it is mostly during June to Aug summer month that actually a plus as avg temp stays in 70 compare 80+ I other areas.

I live in San Francisco and every single day I walk to work and have to step over human excrement. I see homeless people walking around outside half naked and high and the city does not care. I am LGBTQ so I can say whatever I want about them. After a LGBTQ event I went to a pizza place and stood behind a gay man who was wearing nothing but a thong. I am staying because I want to become a software engineer.

Left my hometown when the slide started after Loma Prieta quake.Even in the 'burbs a studio condo with street parking was 500k.And now living proof of the inept political class FORTY NINE SQUARE MILES have been destroyed.Noting this video really sounds like a shill.Yeah Hunters point low utilities bills glowing! Always been a 'hood now it has a weird sense of entitlement.Another masterpiece is that Market street every single business from the ferry building to Daly City.....GONE NOW.....why would one want to live in a city with corrupt public works and no public safety?
