I'm Addicted to Being OFF my Phone ✨ how my life changed when i stopped scrolling

Video Overview & Insights

Hi friends!! In this video, I’m sharing my personal journey toward lowering my screen time, breaking the scroll cycle, and building a slower, more intentional, analog life, without deleting social media or going off the grid.

It's humbling how I was watching this video and slipping into the habits your were describing. This video was one I needed to watch. I've turned notifications off on all apps that can cause distractions- no buzz no action- and I've deleted a host of other unnecessary ones too. I'm hoping this will mean I'll only look when there's a reason. You have to start some where. LOL. Thanks again for this video.

— @RobReadsBooks

We’ll talk about:

* Why constant scrolling leads to mental fatigue, distraction, and comparison

Im so addicted to social media

— @AO-om6vs

* How “brain rot” and overconsumption quietly affect our daily lives

* Practical ways to reduce screen time and stop scrolling

I’m looking for an English-speaking friend. I’d prefer a girl because I want to improve my English.❤

— @bahar.dikmen

* Simple boundaries that actually work (even if willpower doesn’t)

* Replacement habits and analog activities that make being offline feel good

Dummy question… how people actually journal? Do they list what happened on that day, and how they felt? Genuinely curious 👀

— @nadineF

* The real benefits I’ve noticed: more presence, creativity, and calm

* A gentle screen-time challenge you can try this week

Is is released and open-minded to being off phone and social media, this is when we actually spend time for caring ourselves rather than stranger online

— @Viethoiky3qnftu

If you’ve been rethinking your relationship with your phone, you’re not alone. A lot of us are choosing differently right now.

-------------------------------

This is a very serious and important topic to discuss, with overall great advices, but mentioning overconsumption as a terrible result from being chronically online, to then " promote " an additional device to purchase to help staying off our phone...is kind of ridiculous. We should be able to realize after these discussions the harm that all of this is causing us and put our phones down without having to buy our way out of it. All this crazy consumption needs to stop.

Loved this video.. and it's so true that due to the online life most of us are already seeing the shift. Short focus on day to day life things, just because of the immediate dopamine hit we got. I recently started Journaling and it's giving me such joy that I can't put in worlds and is helping me to go offline , just enjoy the moment.. also my creativity is coming back and I can really feel that.

During this vlog, we’ll talk about:

I deleted tik tok and have finally started reading again.... I've been stuck at the beginning of the Throne of Glass series tandem read and now I am flying through it without the doom scroll time in my life. 😅

— @amandaguerrant25

00:00 – an offline life

01:55 – so everyone is offline now?

in addition to severely limiting social media, getting into crafting, going on walks without my phone…. not listening to anything (podcasts, music, YT videos) while doing “mindless tasks” or going on walks really made such a difference in my mental health. I was so burnt out because I literally never let my brain turn off for years.

— @sweetarts445

02:48 – signed it was time to get offline

05:06 – brain rot

So inspiring! For me, leaving my phone charging in a corner I rarely go to has helped me a lot. Finding things to do after my work-day was complicated but now I'm doing yoga class and swimming. I read real boooks... I try to avoid screens at all cost. You're right, those things are so addictive !

— @kurispie

06:04 – over consumption-core

06:49 – how to break phone addiction

I remember after me and my ex broke up, I went 1.5 year without facebook or instagram; best feeling ever. Didn't really felt left out because my sister were still updating me and I enjoyed my own time more without the consistent social media pressure and comparing.

— @kalialor7841

07:11 – what’s a brick?

08:10 – replace the scroll

I’ve been experiencing the “social scaries” for years now. I’ve been wanting to create content, but social media gives me so much anxiety that I avoid even opening the apps.
The nice thing is I have been living a life of letting my mind wander and I notice so many beautiful things and moments throughout the day.
What I do is that I only go to social media to create and post and I rarely consume. As soon as the app opens I’ll go to my profile so I don’t start seeing all the content.

— @worldmhope

08:58 – hobbies to try

10:26 – analog basket

Big reason for the headaches at the end of the day is actually neck strain from looking down on your phone... After long periods of looking at a screen (including pc) make sure to stretch your neck and focus on relaxing your jaw, that's usually super tight too.

— @SuramarLeylines

12:25 – 24 hours phone-free

14:04 – what happens when you’re offline more

i've been less on social media, and ive already been read 30 books :). and the one i dont enjoy, i do DNF them, i hate i got so influenced by tiktok ''hobbies'' and these books would be amazing. i kinda hated them, and i love it to post less.. even when i let my self being 15 mins of scrolling i want more and more. and now ive blocked those apps and i CANT get into them. and it helps so so so much.

— @Shapphirelake

I am on a journey to limit doomscrolling because I realized my attention span is so short. I used to finish a book in 3 days to a week depending on the size and now finishing a page takes forever! Now I can read more although I am not where I want to be yet but there is so much improvement. I also do some beading and this helps my focus as well.

Coincidence to see this video pop up. I deleted Instagram and X from my phone on the weekend after it hit me how I spent too much time scrolling for no particular reason and I miss neither so far. Only 2 days gone, but I'm actually getting to work earlier and feeling less tired.

i am working on it. I used to read 200 pages in a day. I used to do drawings and I remember I was thinking a lot. I had my own ideas about life. I was dreaming about being a writer. However, I start reducing my screen time with starting a hobby first. I pushed myself reading 5 pages. then it become 10, 20,50... I read 5 books last 2 months. It is not closed to all times but it is an amazing improvement. I start learning oil pastel. I used to knit and i will start that maybe next winter. I remember saying to my husband, I watched a lot movies, i study, i was going out with my friends, i was reading but i don't remember how? i thought i became lazy. then i realized i was scrolling 8 hours a day. it is easily 100 pages of book, a movie, meeting with a friend, workout. i am at 4 hours of screentime but it is mostly youtube open my screen while cooking etc

It's funny to find out how to get rid of social media in a social media platform like this. When you chase instant rewards all day, your brain stops producing the fuel it needs to focus, create, or feel satisfied. That's one of insights from the DOSE effect by TJ Power - https://www.youtube.com/shorts/kiHRGYD_xHM

I cant even play my video games without having another video playing on my phone as well its gotten so bad and my focus is so short. Ive been trying to cut back its so easy to start a bad habit and so hard to stop.

I was before blaming friends for spending hours on social media seing others achievements….until I start doing the same😢lesson learned: never blame whoever on whatever ! Speaking is easy, applying is the hardest !

In Pakistan, we don't have many places to visit ir even going for a walk us sometimes not safe in your area. We do read books, play with the toddler but eventually your phone is the only companion you have. :)

Just give your iPhone Screentime Code a good friend, so you cannot turn it off by yourself. Its working so great for a whole year now!

i made a decision in jan this year to spend less time scrolling and more creating. i do post quite regularly on tiktok and i find that + instagram being the ones that have me scrolling for no reason at all. i do like to make videos and post them and random pics of my life every now and then, but i really want to get into the habit of spending more time offline as i've noticed it makes me feel less anxious. i've started reading books actively as this year started, i also exercise but i find myself scrolling mid-workout (not fun). defo gonna try these tips and probably give a go to brick!

I kept my iphone and the apps but got a 30 dollar flip phone from walmart (Which made people think i sold drugs for some reason) and used extensions to use social media on the computer but block any short form features and bro. I'm addicted to long form again and it feels like im back to my 2016 gacha music video obession

@Silly_fishh14

The only problem with that for me is that one of my hobbies is gaming. Plus I'm still very new to crochet and usually have to look up new patterns and occasionally remind myself how to do certain stuff.

I didn't actually know it's a offline era for a lot of peoples. But yeah that year for me is a start of changes, I'm more disciplined, I have my to do list for every day, every morning I start my day with a meditation and yoga. And I have few things that I do everyday , and they keep me away from scrolling. I started to notice a mountains, nature of my city , street. I noticed the peoples almost everywhere stuck in their phone .Watching or listening one English video is a part of my routine. I can say that I have a progress on my English, I am more calm and alive. Thank you ❤

Since deleting social media, I feel so much less anxious and actually enjoy the quiet and the creative that comes once you detox from being over stimulated all the time. The only sad part is noticing just how addicted everyone around you is.

An app I love that has really been a game changer for getting me off my phone is called Opal, and its a more souped up version of apple screen-time that lets you set routines and makes it pretty hard to be on social media when you don't want to! It also just adds that barrier of taking another step in order to be on your phone, and you can really tailor it to yourself. I swear I am not an influencer or anything, just love this app!

@mayalunt6108
@

For anyone who wants the functionality of the Brick without the price tag, try Foqos. It does the same thing but you can use a barcode or QR code on something you keep in your house (something you already own) as the physical barrier. I personally use a QR code on the box of one of our board games. Highly recommend to anyone who wants that barrier but doesn’t want to spend the money.

I 3D printed myself an "anti-case" for my phone. Instead of covering the back of the phone, it covers the phone so I can't tap it or see it. Makes automatic pickups less fruitful. I love being off my phone.

I really loved this video! I just got a brick so I’m excited to try the phone free Sundays & use it for the evenings. I’d be interested in a video about how you manage your screen time during the days when you need it for work.
