I learned 7 languages as an adult no international family, no natural gift, no perfect conditions. In this video I share what that process actually looked like: what each language cost me, what I got wrong, and the shift that made everything else possible.
Awesome thanks for this kind of videos I learn so much!
00:00 Intro
00:45 What each language actually was
At the moment, I speak Spanish, English, Portuguese, and Korean. I’m really interested in learning French and German, but I’m afraid I’ll end up speaking all my languages poorly.
03:41 The cost: Arabic and the same
06:33 The shift Turkish and Persian
thank you for this I have also wanted to learn different languages but also learn my grandfathers side fluently before learning other languages. I am a Cook Islander which is part of the Polynesian side and also German on my grandfathers side. Since Ive seen this video it has sparked something inside of me to start learning and understanding it more. :)
08:54 What it looks like now
10:31 Outro
Im trying to learn my 3rd language and this makes a lot of sense. Thank you for sharing.

Learning new languages has always been for me a fun way to expand my knowledge of other cultures, the way they think, and live, which exercises tolerance and openness for other ways of thinking. For example, when I was learning Korean, I fell in love with the way they write.

I wish to learn many languages too, but as a hobby I'm still young and have to focus on my studies but I still want to learn Chinese even if it's just for a few minutes a day English is my second language and my first language I still know but it has been long though I'd want to learn Arabic, frenc, and japanese but Chinese first because I want to go there for school 😊
@MDear_9I read all these messages about changing personalities but… I speak 4 languages and I’m literally the same in all those four… does that mean I’m doing it wrong?
@olenka-2026TQ. Wonderful sharing/lecture. :)
@JaingFongSooAgree. absolutly agree. In my experience. Mathematics can be take as a sui generis language and its real. its a way of thinking. and changed my life. But, i never , never realized about a language as english or any language can transform your way of thinking, you perspective, to enrich you.. Thanks, truly thanks for your testimony. I will take as a suggestion. a excellent recommendation.
@IIISpeederThanks. I agree with you. Previously, I thought that I should know foreign language like a native speaker. But I really don't know my native language😂
So, this year I learn four languages in the same time. No big planes, no worries. Only spending time every day for foreign languages: English, Chinese, Spanish and German. Maybe, in couple years I will be able to use all of them on a high level, maybe, not. But I've already know more than last year. And I proud of me❤
Wish I were u
@elhamtuiserkanii322I am 19 years old i have just started learn other language like engligh
@LyNguyen-fd2hqHello Zoe .. thanks a lot for today's video...I am a 17-year old language learner...an Arabic native that speaks French and English quite fluently and I recently started learning German ( I am still at A2 level) ...I wanted to start learning Chinese but was afraid of messing everything up especially that my senior year is near the corner and I tend to get into engineering..I kept blaming it on the time but realised that I need to start anyway and stop waiting...also I decided to come back to my Turkish and regain it and that's all thanks to you (any tips for learning Chinese?)
@aichatarhouni-l3cI am a native Indonesian, speaks fluent English, currently learning Italian for 630 days (Duolingo + online course) & is now on my first day of touching Swedish. THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF HETALIA.
@ambulanche93Такая молодец!
@AllianceEuropeHello, thank you so much for this video. Can i ask how you start learning languages? Like do you use apps like duolingo or use textbooks for beginners.. etc.
@are9562つまらなすぎる
@pk-xx7mtI can speak nepali fluently, hindi , english, Tamang , little Tibetan, learning mandarin (hsk2) , I can read korean , I want to learn thai , Indonesian, Japanese 😅
@sang01-c98:37 This reaches areas of life you may not have intended 🏆💯 This is a deep message.
@DaceyahThanks
@avalanchekiwi8706Hello Zoe. I am so happy that I came across your video. I truly love languages. I find that I struggle with Korean and Arabic the most. I agree, you have to fully immerse yourself and that is how you'll retain everything you learn.
@SareamSang-t5uChinese!!
My favourite.
I'm Persian but weirdly enough couldn't relate to my own language ever. Spoke to myself in English since i can remember.
I don't have a great vocabulary or phenomenal speaking skills.
It was just resonant and comfortable. And very very interesting. And so along the way i realised my resonance with each language depends on how much imaginative i can get in each one. I would like to relearn my own language because it is also truly interesting if i look at it from an outsider pov.
Also the culture and the people. New conversations, new perspectives.
It's all very interesting.
I still am a beginner so whoch me luck!
I only speak English (besides my own language, Portuguese) and people think that! 😂 They ask if I went abroad on an internship, if I had classes… 😂😂😂
I was like: I just learned by myself. I was poor! 🤣
It was one of the most honest videos I've ever seen and it went straight to my heart , made me realise something important about my own condition, always so inspiring dear zoe❤
@LinguaandlavenderThank you for the video)
@tiana.mediatorWell done Zoe - You have tenacity and I think you also a naturally intelligent person which also helps
@breebrown5610Greek made me fall in love with starting sentences and paragraphs with particles and conjunctions 😅.
.
(Because) sometimes your thought construction is conjoined at a per paragraph level.
Well to be fair and I absolutely love and respect you and your channel but you do have more ideal circumstances than a lot of other people. Because like a lot of us in America we are getting up working 10 or 14-hour days maybe even two jobs barely struggling to make it we definitely aren't going to be learning 8 languages
@Cryptid71Learning Korean has made me more conscious of others- their feelings, background, lifestyle, way of thinking, etc. Culture is such a huge part of language learning. A shift in perspective.
@h2s_nightfuryneed a Chinese or Russian friend:)))
@Jasminam313I can tell you my English speaking version is a lot more outgoing than my native Portuguese one! Spanish and Mandarin are on the way, too!
@jorge.luiz1095That's so cool 🎉 Do you teach or have a closed group I'd like to be part of it..... I tried learning a few languages on my own I kept starting and stopping even after I've made some real progress 😢
@JossyChidiebereI moved to Germany, lost my native language (Russian) and my really high level in English, still struggling to speak German 😂😂 You're wonderful!
@loccos5293Very insightful! I feel something wrong with the way I learn but cannot say it out loud, you helped me with the video. Thanks a lot! I love the idea of "the healthy relationship with language", it's so true!
@yuminzin2714your english was not so good though
@ExecutiveVivAs a native french speaker, learning english made me less emotional I think? or maybe less intense? English feels like you're level-headed, neither black or white, while french is always tainted with a stronger color. Idk how to explain it but that's how it feels to me and it made me a calmer more composed person. Learning Japanese now and I'm having so much fun with it.
@baloneykid890this video really helped with anxiety I"ve been having, the first language I learned was french through the french immersion program at my school and the next I started learning was through courses in university, not quite as perfect as an immersion setting but still gave me a clear path to follow. I have wanted to start learning another language on my own time but have been so daunted by making a plan and making sure I stick to it perfectly that its been months and I have just stewed in my anxiety rather than just start, I think after this video I will be able to start you've given me a knew perspective that I knew in my head but not in my heart, I would give that advice to friends who asked me about learning a new language but couldn't follow it myself. Apparently I just needed to hear it from someone else to really get it lol
@katie2080I am 17 and an indian i can speak english ,japanese currently i am learning korean i don't why but i love learning new language
@ReshmaRawat-r9u“I’m from China”. That’s all we needed to hear 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@carlosme7374Hi Zoe, I’m fluent in German and English and learning Japanese right now.
@cherryblossom6702Learning languages with not high expectations feels relaxing. As if the mind needs it to explore other ways of thinking. And it works since the mind has a magical way of sorting out the language gradually and you suddenly start to understand.
@alex_wipCan someone kind tell me what is this lady selling?
@SL-fz3exThanks for stating the obvious!
@stevet.3630You're so beautiful,,,I Love you so much,,,
@ienbui6779German/ english ❤❤❤
@TRABAJO_DUROThere is such a thing as having a gift for it and that doesn’t mean you’ll learn more or better than anyone else who may have a real interest in doing so.
