I Drove The VW ID. Polo GTI On An Epic Road Trip From Norway To Finland Over Three Days!

Video Overview & Insights

Social media @ Krisrifa

The steering wheel in the GTI should have been in Alcantara/microfibre too!

I think the face looks really angry and aggressive. Those are not happy eyes for me.

Commenting guidelines and rules:

Wait a mechanical limited slip differential?? Interesting, I wasn't expecting that. 1,500 kg is definitely up there for the size but I suppose this is the new curb weight to be expected from compact and subcompact EVs with reasonable range and power. The acceleration numbers are totally fine, very comparable to mk4 & mk5 Golf GTIs. My only concern is having a car whose mass is off the front wheels all while being front-wheel drive. I'd love to see how this handles 10/10th corners, late-braking & trail-braking corners, etc.

I loathe Volkswagen for not bringing this new ID.Polo to Canada. I understand the choice for not wanting to touch the US given their current climate but Canada is very much ready for smaller less expensive EVs, and compact & subcompact cars have always done well, especially in Quebec.

I'll leave many of my little annoyances with this car because it does seem to get the rest down very well. The physical buttons, mechanical door handles, interior ergonomic layout are solid wins. It feels like a Volkswagen that was styled 15-20 years ago and I say that in a good way. Also, I love the compact size of the ID.Polo, but it does appear unusually tall. Of course there isn't much else that can be done with a battery pack that must be stuffed in the floor of the car, so it's understandable.

Looking forward to Canada getting some new Volkswagens. We've gotted very much tired of these current generations with absolutely zero hybrids and plug-in hybrids, not to mention the out-of-touch ID.Buzz and surprisingly horrendous ID.4. The Jetta is a reasonable car but doesn't boast any interesting powertrains outside the GLI (losing the manual transmission for next year). The GTI & R are great dynamically, but the interiors need a total re-do, with no manual transmissions either. We didn't get the Golf and Sportwagen, two very successful cars here; a serious faux-pas from Volkswagen of America.

Get in sit down, pres brake and car has started, suggests there is no start button .
Spotted a start button !!!!!!!

Does it have a mechanical connection between the steeringwheel and the front wheels? Otherwise, bye bye!

@Bratfalken

I had a look at Autostadt and I agree on the impression of the interior, it's really nice. I would really like to see a full review of the entry level Id.Polo.

It's pretty cool actually 😎

So… we’re just not gonna talk about the huge bug sitting on his right shoulder? @13:29

@flembria73
@

It’s cool and all, but it’s slower and less economical than an ICE GTI. I’ll assume it will also cost more. So I don’t understand why this was even made? You would think if manufacturers took an iconic ICE car and made it into an EV, it would perform better than its ICE version as well as be more economical.

Why put a blackberry on a steering wheel?

I stopped watching when he switched the driving aids off.

Bring it exactly like this to the States with a true 300 miles of range. I will buy it.

Why does almost every EV have hideous wheel design?

I prefer the Alfa romeo junior Veloca ♥️ 💙 😌 😏

How is the noise levels in the cabin?

Is this a GTI?
It looks pretty dull for a so-called GTI.

Still behind 5 to 6 years on the ev train vw

That does not look like android automotive. Did you mean Android Auto?

@DanielKihlgren

The car is great, but ultimately it falls short when it comes to range. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@MaDi-l6t

I would buy this in the US.

I love the look of this. One thing I absolutely despise, however, is the horrid fashion of the absence of driver instrument cover. This cheap placement of what is essentially an iPad is very impersonal and smacks of cost-cutting. Please manufacturers, stop it. It's lazy and ugly

@darrenprior6339

They need to make the next gen GTI and R look like this.

@PlayerZero_1

👍🏾😁looks really good inside and outside a vw ev that looks normal 😂

@turbosalsa

Please bring this to the USA, VW!!!!! I'll take it in ICE form as well. The GTI is like the working man's 911 to us.

The very centrally located volume/media control seems like such a middle finger to modern Audi.

I love this thing and hope VW brings something like this to the USA.

Physical buttons in a modern, brand new car - AMAZING 😅

Great review, thank you. The wheel design is so good too, I loved the R5 but it is just not practical and this Polo solves those problems has all the right features that makes this a Volkswagen. Well done VW. 👍

Looks sweet! Wished they had a even more powerful motor for the GTI versions. But sub 7 sec should be enough for most...

The electric Renault 5 looks so much better than the id polo, I’m so disappointed

@Losolivospuddingshop

1:00 uh .. never notice the brake likes on the ID Polo being so tiny. Looks a bit off to me.

@EinzigfreierName

I will buy the car as soon as posible. In Germany the ID Polo GTI has a negative Feedback in all reviews. The main problem is the car is slow ... the first vmax volkwagen communicated was 110mph. Thats to slow for the autobahn. Even a Sprinter-Van can even overtake you. I will order mine in red and will slow on the autobahn.

@rainerfuchs2788
@

Great style interior and exterior. I hope the switch gear finds it's way into the NA Tiguan very soon, also I much prefer the less fussy lower bumper design of the ID Polo compared to Tiguan /T-Roc. The only change I would make is light gray interior roof, all dark makes it kind of gloomy inside.

@T-zw3uk
@

Seems like a great car however, I don’t think you mentioned anything about range. How was the range on this drive? Anywhere near the quoted?

@crg1100

Epic road trip with VW group MEB platform 🤣😅😂

@ΦίλιπποςΣβουρώνος

ID.Polo would be a hit in the US…I don’t like the fabric on the doors dash or seats at all…I would hope there would be a leather or leatherette alternative … the ergonomics seem great… I like the rear taillights but wish they had more pronounced brake lights…like double lenses ..instead of just 1 tiny bulb I wish you would demonstrate the high intensity Euro fog lamps…they are not required in the US..but should be. great review..thank you

Both lightbars make it weird.
Unnecessary, like too much jewelry on somebody, just excessive for no use.

Why FWD? 🤨

This is great although unfortunately too small for my needs but only a matter of time till VW will bring some other models with features from this.
