I don’t hate my Mac - Switching to Apple Pt. 2

Video Overview & Insights

macos 'just works' as long as you don't actually have any 'work' to do

— @RealMisterChan

We spent two months living the Mac life, and it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. The hardware impressed us, and some of the features were genuinely great, but clunky UI quirks, frustrating compatibility problems, and unreliable Wi-Fi on a $10,000 Mac Pro reminded us that macOS still has its issues. We break down what worked, what didn’t, and why at least one of us hasn’t switched back.

Yeah mac needs more time to get more polished than windows

They forgot to mention the lack of volume controls and the forced audio ducking whenever you're in a FaceTime call, and before you ask, yes there are apps for that and NO they do NOT work.

I've been an iPhone user for about a year and a half now, and I just picked up a MacBook last week. Honestly, it’s already completely replaced my Windows PC for work and coding. The only thing I still use the PC for is gaming, since the Mac just can't compete there.

I never got into pc and my dad was an Intel engineer, I wasn’t an apple fan back in the day and here I sit after two years from switching android for apple I now have a m4 Mac Pro and I love it! It’s easy to use for everything I need to do on computer and I can’t believe it, I was an apple hater for years and now I am changed, I am an apple user now, for all the good and bad they spoke about, I agree 100% and I’m still team Apple, yeah they got me LOL

If you look at performance on battery, nothing comes close to macbooks. Try to find a competition for the 16" m5 max macbook pro 128gb, running call llm on battery.. I wish there were at least one or two competitors for Macbooks.. As for os, i remain a Linux lover😂

I switched to Mac because I was mad that I had to buy a new PC to run my tax software, as it doesn’t run on Windows 10 and my i7 with 1TB SSD and 32GB of RAM “can’t” run Windows 11. I was surprised that you didn’t find the file manager more frustrating. I have an M5 MacBook Air.

9:00 the solution to the “MacOS sucks without a trackpad” problem, is to just get a Magic Trackpad and use it alongside your 3rd party mouse. The gestures aren’t hard to do with a non-dominant hand. I have a Logitech trackball mouse on the right side of my keyboard, and I keep my Magic Trackpad on the left side, and it’s basically the best of both worlds.

the great thing is apple does have a setting to differentiate the natural scroll w touchpad and mouse but you can't uncheck the mouse one without also turning off the touchpad one haha

Sooo funny to watch. Its exactly what I am experiencing now trying my new Macbook Neo. Once set up correctly it works quite well.

Mac wins by durability and battery life.

main thing for switching to mac was not having to buy a new computer every other year. my first Mac book air lasted 10 years. bought a other one still going strong (5+ years now). duing my college years, me being cheaper windows laptops, they often slowed way down or died within 1 year, even high spec Sonya of yesteryear.

So a year later I'm seeing this lol. Great video as always. If you hit Command + Shift + 5 or open up screenshot app that's built into the computer, you can specify where you'd like all your screenshots to go by default under options. Additionally, there are other features such as screen recording and then you can just hit the stop at the top of your screen to end it. All built natively into the OS.

@PatrickBooth

So gaming is still that bothersome on Mac. I thought since Valve have somewhat solved gaming on Linux, specifically on SteamOS, surely Apple have done it as well. & all the gaming initiatives that Apple have done in recent years make it seem like they've solved it.

@haveitprod

My worst gripe with Mac is how many features i consider an absolute baseline like middle click and sane resolution/scaling management (especially for multiple displays) or mounting network drives beyond the barest of bare minimum functionality might be easy to get working, but only as long as you're ready to present your credit card. I do have to say the developer ecosystem for customizing the OS (and likely the underlying system APIs enabling all this - I haven't dove much into that tho) is leagues ahead of Windows, but compared to Linux I was very much left wanting when unwilling to spend more money on an already expensive machine to have a decent user experience.

It's not just about which operating system is best at which tasks. It's really about which operating system is best at making it easier for you as the user to do that task. I like to play around with music, so content creation is just easier for me on a mac.

I wanna punch someone who invented the saying "it just works" for macbook

@hikodzu

There is a reason that they have not put Face ID on MacBooks. Face ID uses TrueDepth camera. A standard Face ID module requires a certain depth (about 7.8 mm) and MacBook lids are as thin as 3mm. Also touch ID on a laptop just makes sense since user's hands are already resting on the keyboard.

1 thing I will say is… I actually find W11 very very enjoyable, whilst running in parallels on Mac

Having used Linux, Windows and Mac extensively for decades.

They are all as good as each other, all have areas they are better at, all have areas they do worse at.

But If you own an iPhone or iPad, even an Apple Watch…then I’d say you are already a few steps down the road to a more cohesive technology ecosystem.

Used to work in a Mac environment as IT support. The engineers preferred to work with Macs for their engineering software and would install Windows on a "dual-boot" system. They claimed the software ran better on Apple's hardware. It was called "Boot Camp" back then! 😆

@1BSDjunkie

As a user who has had experience with Windows, GNU/Linux, and now MacOS - do you sometimes sense how well something is working by just seeing it perform? I felt that way about FreeBSD when I used it years ago.

@1BSDjunkie

What do you think about a MacBook with cellular access as well?

@1BSDjunkie

I need an update! I'm on the fence of finally upgrading my 12 yr old ASUS with a 14-inch macbook pro....leaning yes. Don't mind the OS and I'm already apple integrated. This is good stufff!

When I was younger I used Apple computers at school but I never really got into them. For a long time I was huge IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad fanboy... but the last purchase, I ordered a X60 Tablet (the one with swivel screen), cost $3500 if I remember correctly and it was just a piece of crap. It just kept breaking and it was just in-and-out repairs from Lenovo. This was the time of Windows Vista, I said F it, let's just get a MacBook Pro. I picked up the top of the line 17" model at the time at the Apple Store, and the next year after I custom ordered a $8000 Mac Pro for home office use. Compared to Windows PC of that time, Mac really was "it just works."

macOS does, “just work”, for Mac users, it just doesn’t, “just work”, for anyone else. I daily drive both MacOS and Windows and use Linux, having terminal on Mac is an under appreciated feature.

@naylor2006

all I wanted was a guide for windows users that just got a macbook. I HATE multitasking on the mackbook

@ArenaGoll-2026

Just hit command + space and search for the screenshot app. It’s way more intuitive than the shortcuts

@jadenarceneaux

You did not talk about the constant Windows updates and forced reboots don’t exist on a Mac

@Kevin_Shea
@

Wait are you not able to use the screenshot function on macOS properly? It’s literally the best. The three button press is complete muscle memory and beyond simple. Goes straight to my download folder so it’s available right at the bottom of the screen to drag into whatever program I want to share it… snip it tool is GOD AWFUL

Using Reaper and QLC+ for my band, made the switch to a MacBook Air and, as a windows user (IT Analyst) for decades and I'm getting to love the MacBook more and more.
Thought of switching my main rig but, because of Gaming and GPU support, won't happend for now...

i'm a windows user, and I've only realized just now how inefficient Windows is.. i have a laptop with 8gb RAM and it's severely limited. I'm starting to believe in the power and potential of ARM based hardware and software.

@morgtv1023

the problem with Mac OS in desktop is that you need the Magic Mouse. if you don't have the Magic Mouse it'll feel clunky.
