Can you really become fluent in a language in just 30 days?

I flew to Milan, Italy, to find out. For the next month, I fully immersed myself—living like a local, speaking Italian every day, attending language school, and pushing myself to the limit. From pasta-making classes to running a half marathon, every moment was a chance to learn.
I also tested out tools like Lingopie and compared real-world immersion with structured study.
Connor, I'm very impressed. I'm English, live in the US and I speak very good Italian. I have relatives there, have spent tons of time there, and have studied the language every now and again, beginning as a teen. Even so, I speak to waiters in the main cities with my pretty fluent Italian and they respond to me with their usually poor English, (especially if they're male).. It's honestly annoying but I'm used to it. What you pulled off in one month is quite astonishing. Your accent is not bad at all!
At the end of the month, I took an international language test to see exactly how fluent I became.

Ciao, sono Antonio. I started learning Italian yesterday, and I just watched this video and wanted to try out that same test you took. And I got 13 of 30 questions right. I'm sure a lot of them were pure luck, but I tried to do my best based on my intuition and small vocabulary. And I'm even more interested in the language now. Wish me luck everyone, grazie!

Hi! The term "brioche" is actually more generic. "Cornetto" is a specific type of brioche shaped like a croissant (the recipe is a bit different from the excellent French or Austrian croissants).

I am Italian living abroad, and I refuse to call it “brioche”. I always call them cornetto, even when I visit my family in Milan. So, Duolingo teaches correctly. But maybe they could insert the information that they might be called brioche in some areas of northern Italy.

@TheKaizenWay-caReally stupid from the language school to put you in a class with absolute beginners. Did they move you to another level after a coupe of days?
Why did you not opt for a homestay? This way you have a great deal of immersion right away and you do not need to bug people in cafés.

@davideepifaniI have to say this and some might hate me for this, you’re not talented at all linguistically but the hard work and the discipline is something that most of us lack and you absolutely have it you are a freaking beast of both smart and hard work
English is my 3rd language im an Arabic native i learnt French then English i studied Spanish to A2 and same goes for Italian
I was never the disciplined type of person but i speak now 3 languages creatively and still lacking some knowledge for the rest of
