I categorized MEDICAL SCHOOLS so you don't have to | low-yield, service, research, OOS-friendliness
Video Overview & Insights
I break down the main categories of U.S. MD medical schools—including research-focused, service-driven, and research-intensive programs—and provide a comprehensive list of schools within each category. The video specifically highlights mid-stat MD programs to help premeds with average stats create a smart, realistic, and strategic school list.
You picked UCLA? Seems the best choice.

Great service you have performed I retired this year. I went to tufts as ug and Md. very expensive even in the 80s. I transferred to u Texas it was only 1000$ yr. I did neurosurgery residency in Michigan and wouldn’t do it again. Things have changed way too much. I think I would be a pa if I had to do it now. That’s just me though. My best to you

@abhilasha1389Hi Erica, im kinda behind on research and i have till june 2026 to apply. If i was to start now, gain a good footing and do about 20 hours per week in something i like, would research heavy schools like ucsd or uci hold it against me for rushing or its fine as long as i explain proactively im my amcas. Thanks

@Mississippi1293Very helpful with such organized lists! Can be thankful enough! Just wondering about this - I am from buffalo, NY and I do not see Jacobs School of Medicine anywhere in the lists above, just so everyone knows- Jacobs would fall under a mid stat service heavy school.
@ayeshajannat4169Useful video! Any ideas for high clinical hour schools? I should have about 10,000 by application time!

@zanmar6764west virginia university is not very out of state friendly. the only reason they might have a higher percent out of state students is simply because not many in state students apply. they strongly favor in state applicants
