I've been looking for a nonsmart tv for a year. My tv was hacked and the person was watching me through my tv. It was very scary. No more smart tvs for me.
Samsung, LG, TCL, HiSense and pretty much everyone else tout the benefits of their "smart" operating systems included with their TVs. But honestly, I don't need my TV to be yet another computer to serve ads to me and steal my data. I already got a bunch of those! But escaping from the grips of TizenOS, WebOS or even Android TV is difficult, especially when precious few companies sell modern displays without the OS cruft. Well, Sceptre has a 75" TV that is simple as can be. But is their TV with no Smarts just plain dumb?

THIS VIDEO IS PERFECT! I was doing new TV research and I HATE Roku and Fire TV's. I do not want or need smart tv features and ads and junk it drives me nuts. I miss the 90's man. I am heading to sceptre's website because that is awesome.

Yay for no smart features! You should bring this into whenever you review other TVs, you should clearly state if you can set it up without internet. And if you can't, you should clearly state if you can continue to use it without internet after set up. With the new LG ad/malware scandal I don't think I want my TVs ever connected directly to the internet again.

I'm sure that this isn't the first time you've heard this? I love your content, but your store items are way overpriced. Even on sale they are suspect. I have no doubt that they are of somewhat better quality, but I highly doubt that the cost to benefit ratio can justify their prize.fir most people I guess if you can continue to sell them at that price, I can't fault you. That's just capitalism and I'm all for that. I just won't be buying any of your stuff and I'll just support you guys by watching your videos. I really want a good OLED 4K HDR Dumb Tv. Spectre is so close! But I checked their site and couldn't find an OLED.
@thedragonslibraryMy TCL QM6K let's you skip Google TV setup and set it up to go straight to the last used input. I'm pretty sure that boots to my shield just as fast. CEC is stellar too.
Just needs you to change a ton of settings.
This niche of TV reviews is pretty funny for Linus. Lots of views for each video. Do other people actually review TVs anymore?? I have zero idea why I'm watching this but for some reason I'm watching.

@MrRetroDevI just dont have my tv connected to the internet. Thats it. It does still take a minute to boot up, and then i have to press a button on my roku to have it switch inputs… but 🤷🏼♀️ it works
And i also have all my media… tv, roku, sound, gaming consoles (which i only do retro now anyways) its all going through an RF outlet with the RF remote on the wall in my house. When i go to sit down to watch tv i press it on… then turn on the tv and switch it to roku. Takes a minute max. At the end of the day, I turn it all off (at the power source) so absolutely NOTHING is on when not in use. No vampire electronics draining electricity raising my electric bill. None of that. Dont even use smart plugs. The RF plugs do have a slight power consumption but its nothing compared to smart plugs.
So i control everything. I dont have to worry about affording a truly “dumb” tv either. But i prevent them from doing any advertising or data mining. I mean im sure the roku is anyways when im using it. But at least i have full control of being able to actually shut it all off.
Theyve been sellling this same tv since before covid too lol. Was my first 75in TV, now i have a LG C2 77in

@Nvenom8.spectre is my goto tv/monitor for most of my computers...I go with the 50" 4k for not $800, $200...it's not specatacular, but it works and if it breaks I have another in the box on tap. They don't last a long time...they seem to develop power supply capacitor issues...I don't attempt repair of any kind I just swap out and move on.

@kidwave1You can do this woth any tv imcliding smart, just get an external streaming box and dont connect tv to imternet, been doing it for years.
@bennett338ableMakes sense that Spectre would be the ones putting this type of device out. As mentioned in the video the shift towards smart TVs has kind of lumped "dumb TVs" in with monitors. My association with the word has changed in recent years. Now a TV is a thin box filled with ads and streaming apps, if it's not full of ads and apps by default it's a monitor. May not be entirely correct but it definitely feels right.

@Grr8xtcI’ve got 3 Sceptres in my house. I use Apple TV boxes. Perfect for me. The bigger the TV the worse that sound gets. But that’s what soundbars are for.

@Stratos1988Not to mention with the targeted ads, the TV is taking a screenshot twice a second to sell what you're watching, including anything "personal" you may cast to the TV! Dont forget to turn off ACR in your TV settings.

@Alcoholic_NerdI have exclusively had old dumb TVs for all my life and every time I go to a friend's house i'm astounded by how weird it feels. Don't get me started on the menuing without a remote though, those buttons on the side of the TV are lifesavers.
