I had a captivating movie idea hit me at night a few months ago and I've got it in a note book. I'm very new to screen writing so this is the first of a few videos I'll watch to give me the tools I need to bring this to life and on paper eventually.

How to Write a Log Line:

You're talking a million miles an hour and it doesn't give me the option to adjust. Wouldn't a film writer consider that?

How about "A young oung Man is emotionally ill and after several self exit attempts, he ends up with brain damage and physical disability and is challenged to get back to life as it was before he damaged his brain and returns to college and graduates with honors after walking around a large urban campus? And that's just the beginning of the story.

Damn. I used to binge on your videos many years ago; I attempted film-making once but couldn't finish it because life happened.
Recently my interest sort of reignited and I didn't recognise you until couple of minutes into the video.
Glad to be back and learning :)

Sure, but what if the problem is that I'm extremely lazy?

So I am an idiot. As such idiot, I decided to become a visual novel dev. I've been writing since 2021 and I'm not going into the novel aspect of visual novels blind... However, you see, the word novel does not give a proper description of what vns are. They are closer to screenplays rather than actual novels. This puts me in a terrible position because I've always been bad at writing dialogue and now I have to learn to do that.

» 12:12 - Writing the Script

this was super helpful tbh...... especially the logline before the script thing

i always hated loglines because they feel like homework after the fact, but using them to actually find the movie is a really good way to look at it

also yeah scriptments are underrated. sometimes full script pages too early just kill the momentum

been playing a bit with screenweaver for that kind of process btw, mostly because i hate having outline / notes / characters / draft all over the place. feels closer to how my brain works when a story is still messy ^^

The Film Riot Multitool!

This is a perfect introduction. I just wrote a treatment and showed it to a director who like it and wants me to start a script. She did tell me to learn as much as I can about how to write a script as possible. She even suggested that book you mentioned Save the Cat.
Thank you for posting this video.

I've had an idea for a book for the past 3 years. It's kind of like a mix of dream, catchers and unwind. But I feel like whenever I sit down to write it, i either just word vomit or I give up completely. But I have written a script before And I was able to finish it with no Issue. So I feel like instead of writing it for a book I should try to write it for a script. I have a pretty good idea of the plot. I just have a hard time getting my ideas out onto the page In a very cohesive way. Although i am new to this and very young, i would love to see this Either become an independent film or be picked up by a studio.

COLOR GRADING LUTs:

I'm here after watching Sinners.. I got inspired to make my own screenplay. All I gotta do is focus and not get lost in thoughts of my inner critic. Maybe.. I'll come back when I finish it. Hows that?

Write the story in the present.. then form it as a script.. It's the same as writing a play.. the play is written in the present tense always even if it is a historical play!

Screenwriting is fascinating because the audience can feel structural failure long before the writer realizes where it began.

— @ScriptDiagnostics

CAMERAS:

One structural signal that a scene is failing is when pressure stops increasing even though dialogue continues.
