How to Teach a Toddler to Talk - 3 Tips- Speech Therapy for Toddlers
Video Overview & Insights
As a speech therapist, I always keep three main things in mind whenever I’m trying to teach a child something new, especially speech. They are simplification, motivation, and repetition.
I need help with my 3 year old have a speech delay he saying a few words but not in a sentence

My four year old grandson doesn’t seem to respond when people talk to him. Like he doesn’t reciprocate I. E. If someone says hi he will not respond but if I say Bryce say hi then he will say it but not spontaneously. Kids say hi to him and he doesn’t say anything. Has tantrums so frequently we are at our wits end. Just want to spank him.

I like the motivation piece so much. I sometimes use my face as motivation. For example, if a baby hates tummy time. I will get down on the floor in front of them and make silly faces to distract them from the discomfort of the dreaded "Tummy Time" lol.

My 2,5 year old knows a lot of words but only says little sentences. “It’s raining”, “it’s hot”, “I’m hungry, need to eat”. Don’t know how to get him to say more complex phrases.
@sabinaciardi9929The officials should be responsible for not throwing a red flag BEFORE this incident.
@myharryfaceMy daughter turn 6year on july still didn't talk a lot.she a very active girls . what should i do
@anglekc7836How would you teach a blind baby? My son is almost 2 and has a ton of songs he can hum but only says momma.
@toriwalker7241"My toddler was a late talker too, so 'Motivation' was key for us. He wouldn't speak unless he was really excited. Besides bubbles (which he loves!), we found that he gets super motivated by animal songs on Fairy May Kids. He started mimicking the animal sounds first, and then the words came naturally. Music really is a bridge to speech! ❤🐶"
@FAIRYMAYKIDSMy daughter is 15 months and saying more than 6 words 😊
@alabalababyblueMy babes almost 2. I'm trying to get him to talk. He talks to me. Just no one else. He looks me in the eyes. When I speak to him. I don't just call him by his name. I call him boog or little dude, my love, sweet heart. He looks at me. His step gma is convince he's autistic and I have early intervention here. They were here thinking he didn't know how to walk but he got up and started running one. Day. I feel weighed down with their presence. They come here saying no shit things. Like I'm doing that. The pediatrician only called y'all because he wasn't walking and now he is. My kid isn't autistic, he does things when he feels he's ready and I don't want to force him into doing things yet And honestly it's just more added stress for nothing.
@makaylamoran3287I have the bubbles I try saying more, pop or b and try to encourage taking but he just throws a tantrum, hits his head and gets angry if I don’t start, how do I get past this?
@BraveBlueButterflyWhat about if we are a bilingual family? Mostly speaking, other language at home instead. Does the one word still work in the other language?
@faya.5513My baby girl is 2 but she doesn't say her word clear
@twalagrubbsMy baby is 3. She has started pre-pre school. She stayed home with her mother and i for her first 3 years. Despite her hitting all of her milestones knowing her ABCs, Counting, and coloring, they sent us a letter yesterday saying she needs speech therapy and should be placed in special education. Im so broken as a parent, i just feel defeated. Any advice? For the record, she was tested in the first semester for her speech but has made drastic improvements since that happened. Im not going to give up on her and place her in special education. My wife does an amazing job with her and she has been knowing her letters and numbers since she was 2.
@divinewindmasterHi, I love your video, I have a question of how can I get my daughter that is two years old to talk to others she only comes to talk to me. She saying three words sentences she’s able to recite numbers ,letters , animal sounds also identify them. But she only does it with me so no one believes me that she’s capable of it shes shy & introverted. Is there anything to help?
@deviouslove4048This was so informative.Thank you so much!
@UrbanSouthernBelleMy eldest now almost 8yrs old when he was around 18months only speaks a few words, now even 10 word. Me and my wife even lied to the doctor if he already speak such words and stuff. He doesn't respond to his name, can'tnreally get his attention for too long, he lines up rocks and shape toys, Super picky eater, he tip toes when he walks. He was5 when he went to kindergaten and he can't form proper sentences yet, can'tbreally converse properly. But he was good at memorizing, he's good at math, spelling and other stuff. My wife and I was observing him cause if you base it on the signs it looks like he has autism. But present time he is a completely normal kid. Now we have a new 18 month old and have not spoken yet, he just babbles stuff. Half of the time he respond to his name, but doesn't really talk. He eats well. He can eat on his own using his hands. He can use a fork with support. He does maintain eye contain especially when we play, but i still cant stop worrying about him. It stressess me and wife, but we still do our best. We show him books, sing songs with actions with him. He has a follow up check up with the doctor after 3months about his speech, I hope he starts saying words by that time.
@2119joelMy baby can do all the sign languages, but not talking, every time I said more, he would just do the sign instead… how should I ask him to talk instead of using sign?
@minniegreen8436Thank you for your tip!!! Such a great video!!
@storzy8064Son is almost two, and doesn’t say many words. We are getting him help and educating ourselves on how to help him learn. His older sisters spoke at 8 months and had huge vocabularies by the time they were 2, so this is all new to us.
@kiwik2951Thank you for the tips, my twin daughters turned two in nov and i feel like ive failed them as a father.
@mitchellwelburn6580What should a caregiver do, when using different play processes to encourage speech, that as soon as the toddler (18-19mo) doesn't get what they want/something doesn't go the way they expect, the default is brain shattering screaming? I've done the bubble process but because toddler insists on taking the bubbles (which I didn't allow) the screaming tantrum ensued. At that point I put the bubbles away and offer a different activity. I know this reaction must be based on frustration/big feelings and it happens multiple times per day...toddler isn't allowed out of stroller quick enough, playing with a toy doesn't go they way he expects....
@noreenmccarthy4956“Takk…Takkin…”. “Pap…” “aginn…” “Gitt…”. 😂😂😂😂
@GFeintuckthis is great. i also do some homeschooling activities/lessons from education.com and https://www.autismunlimited.co/
@TouroJaimeAlleyneMy Son is 10 years old, he can’t make a sentence, can you show as how to help him, thank you
@muluneshyeheyis9776My daughter says words and copies us when we say something, but never sentences on her own she’ll be 24 months in 2 months and I’m so worried, we currently live abroad in west Africa and she attending a school where they speak a language called ‘Fante’ I have been told she says words in Fante. But could this be effecting her speaking English? Not to mention my oldest has Autism and non verbal but I don’t know what to do or route to take, I feel like I’ve tried everything.
@5senses1More of these videos please!!
@t_jbjorkfam813I feel like a terrible mother. Mine is 34 months, his almost 3, and not talking. im so worried.

@luigi7597I’ll be honest I felt like a dad that wasn’t doing his job to the full potential. I’m glad to see other parents have the courage to speak on the talking issues with their child.

@YvethBaladingMy son is 2 in a few weeks and has gone backwards.

@areeba.mudassir8001My 3 and a half year old can say a lot of words, but pronunciation is one thing idk how to help her with. And also, she can only say 3 words together. she’s never said a four word sentence
I feel so guilty and at moments hopeless. Her attention span is very short too
There is permanent herbs to improve speech delay/autism. It’s a medicine you can get from Dr Oyalo YouTube channel, his herbs have made my son improve perfectly in his speech and social skills. He is now verbal, responding to name and instructions

@chrisfegan3475As a dad I feel like the biggest failure…smh my 3yr old son literally does everything but talk full sentences.
@TreDuddaI know this video is very old but just wanted to let you know the word is "self explanatory" which means self explained. You said self exclamatory which isn't a thing. Exclamatory is like a shouted phrase. An exclamation. ❗
@motiemoHi there, I'm trying to find the link for your free book in the comments but I can't find it. Would you kindly post it for me?
I'm so excited about finding your video. My son is 26 months and not talking yet even though he's going to creche and I have no clue on how to teach him so keen to learn as much as possible from you! Thank you ❤
