I’m playing this video game in which my character goes to various cities. My character has been in Taipei for 11 days, and I have been watching videos on Taipei for 11 days, to feel like I am there with her. This is by far the best video I have seen: you’re showing things here that totally correspond to my interests, so much so that I know you’d make a fantastic travel companion! I also really like how when you try foods that might be acquired tastes, you go all in. Not just a small bite, a big bite! 😂 Really wonderful. I subscribed. 😊😊

I just returned from Taipei two days ago. The fruit and Vegetables are fresh. Taiwan is a glyphosate-free zone, as well as other nasty pesticides that are used in the United States. We have felt wonderful here, ZERO digestive issues. We stayed all around the island for 14 days.

I want to visit Taiwan someday.

By far my favorite country on the planet. I lived there for 2 years during a co-development project with TSC, and I really had the great opportunity to feel what Taiwan was about. Simply amazing. I hope to end my retirement years there. Best country, best people, best culture, best food, and great scenery. I've been there many times since (almost every year), and I've yet to make it south of Hualien on the east coast and Taichung on the west coast, because there's so much to see and do. 5 days is nowhere near enough to soak in what Taiwan has to offer. Heck, they even have a redwood forest (cypress trees). I didn't know that for years, even though I lived there.

If you visit, don't expect to enjoy stinky tofu. It's very, very pungent. I was walking near my office building during one of my first nights there, and I smelled what I thought was open sewage. That shocked me, as although the city is old, the people there try to keep it as clean as possible. What I found out it was actually stinky tofu. It's an acquired taste. It took me about a year of eating Taiwanese food for my taste buds to adjust to the stronger flavors of their cuisine. Once that happened, stinky tofu (especially the stew style) became something I'd eat very often.

The night market food, although fun and often good, is more "fillers" (flour, buns, rice, noodles). The really good food, at least to me, is what's found in the local restaurants and what some street vendors will cook. That's pretty much fish, pork, chicken, vegetables, and fruit (as desert). There's a small chain of restaurants in Xindian (pronounced shin-dee-yen) called shui tsong shien (water up fresh). I highly recommend it. They have a huge menu, and they serve each dish on small plates that everyone shares. Great variety, great quality, and amazing recipes (albeit many are traditional to the locals). This young man's last meal was very much like what many local restaurants serve.

There are thousands of Buddhist gods, who were usually local people who did a lot of good for their community, but then passed on. Each god has a specialty...it might be for education, or for relationships, or for wealth, or for health, etc. My best friend there showed my son how to use them, and my son asked the local god of education a question, then threw the blocks. The initial answer was "no", and my friend saw my son was bummed. So, he told me son to just keep throwing the blocks until he got the answer he wanted. Now, that's a Taiwanese for ya!

This guy did it right....befriend some people there (easy to do, as they're wonderful), and let them show you the places they eat and go to. But, make sure to tell them not to take you to restaurants they think we'll like, as you'll end up missing the really good food. Also, just spend a lot of time on the streets interacting with the country. It's simply amazing, like I said.
