Brand new player here. Can someone confirm if the step through erne is allowed meaning stepping into the kitchen then both feet are out of bounds before smashing. Every video I've seen, players are either jumping OVER the kitchen or stepping AROUND the kitchen before smashing.

Volleyball broke the tradition of side out scoring in 2000, and look at where volleyball is today - flourishing. Badminton broke the tradition of side out scoring in 2006, and look at where badminton is today - flourishing. The official rally point scoring system has been tried and tested and it works perfectly well in its present and official format. It does not need to be changed to help prop up pickleball's uniqueness. For the players rally scoring is fast and tactical, and for the spectators rally scoring makes the sport both compelling and entertaining to watch without the yawn.

At 6:20 there is a side out and the Jordan/Sammy team regains the serve at 1-2. Your narration states "remember that directly after a side out, the player who is on the right side of the court will always serve, and will become the first server". That directly contradicts the USA Pickleball 2026 Official Rulebook which states (rule 5.B.3 Correct Serving and Receiving Positions) "When serving....the starting server's correct position is on the right side of the court when the score is zero or even, and on the LEFT side of the court when the score is odd". As the team starting to serve at 1-2 has an odd score, the first server should be serving from the left side. The player who is on the right serves first and becomes the first server, but if his team's score is odd (1,3,5,7 or 9) he must serve from the left. Serving position for the first server following a side out is determined by the score alone. If I'm wrong about this, please correct me citing official rules only.

So it's mentioned that you're supposed to let the ball bounce once on each side, yet multiple times in the video it is shown that the ball does not bounce before being returned yet play still continues. When are you allowed to or not allowed to break this rule? I think that's the only thing I'm confused about based on this video.

When returning a ball from a serve: can the returner hit the ball into the odd side of the other team or it should be diagonal same place where the server hit the ball? coz why is the other player need to be at the back too, why cant he just head straight to the kitchen aswell?

Ok, I have now watched copious amounts of "How To Play Pickleball" and I have to say this video is by far the BEST in how to play side-out scoring pickleball. I am not a fan of side-out scoring as I truly believe the official rally scoring system is much better, and I'll leave a link of it below, but at least this video clearly explains how to serve, score and rally using the side-out system simply and clearly. But if you want to learn rally serving and scoring, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DombrMeRv4&t=48s

Perfect for new arrivals to our clinic! Thank you.

BTW: where confusion remains is who serves and receives on each side out. How I teach it is to note your positions on the initial serve of the game - where the server and receiver are designated as EVEN (and their partners as ODD). Thereafter the score on a side out informs who serves and receives based on if it's an odd or even score for the server and receiver respectively.

At 2 2 1, for example, players serving and receiving are the same as the first game (Even players); if its 5 5 1, then ODD-designated players serve and receive.
