DIY. Make your own grow bags for your garden. Grow bags have many benefits including allowing air and water to continue to flow and it allows the root systems to breath (called air pruning) so it doesn't get root bound. I will show you how to make your own bags very inexpensively.

Thanks for this, and also for your info on grow bag dimensions for other sizes. I don’t think you have to use such heavy thread. The one you linked is Tex 90 or so. Tex 69 should be plenty and will work workin most domestic machines. But yes, must be UV resistant.

Hey, here's a genious question: can I just use a stapler instead of stitching it? That's an old trick for emergencies, kinda wondering why I shouldn't do it here. Think the staples will rust out?

I bet I could use some upholstery fabric that I bought at another yardsale for super cheap like 5 years ago. It may not last for years, but I'm trying to use what I have. @mirandaryan6491You can sew triangular leftover pieces on the sides and get great carrying handles.

I keep coming back to this video and this year I going to sew up a few grow bags using drop cloth fabric instead of landscape fabric. I know the fabric will break down but I should be able to get a season or two out of them before that happens. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

@metajamaica1344I think some parchment paper will keep a the iron from sticking. I used a bag sealer to make smaller bags for cloning fig trees.

@glendawalkerToo funny the last time I had my sewing machine out my husband wanted to play with it. He did pay a little more for a feature that will run a stitch along the edge for you with no extra needles but I don’t think I’ve ever used it. He got a deal buying direct from the company.

@messyhomestead7320I do this with old T-shirts, I just cut the shirt straight off right at the armpits straight across and then fold over maybe half an inch and then just sew it up, it works well enough for me and what I do.
I totally agree with you about pins, pain in the butt to use/deal with. I am going to use that idea with the miniature clothes pins . . . super idea.
