I've always found it sufficient to rotate my hens around the farm with the cows. The cows keep predators away, and the hens eat the flies that otherwise bother the cows. Also they at some grass, but the grass they save us by eating caterpillars and grasshoppers is more than what they eat so the net effect is more grass for the cows.
I reckon I can find a use for soldier fly larvae as well, though.

Just don’t keep a lot of birds to feed. I do not recommend doing this if you are raising a few chickens close to your home. If your laying hens are in cages keep the bugs out and make sure they have plenty of sand to dust in.

The black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas.
That includes:
Central America
South America
Southern parts of the United States
It doesn't thrive in cold climates

If you don’t want any stink, just don’t add any meat or dairy products to your compost. As long as you have 50-50 ratio: organic vs carbon (cardboard, paper, leaves), the compost won’t stink. Once done, you can feed grubs to chickens and compost to plants.

I don't think I could do this in CO. I don't even think I could with the native flies. I could probably do beetles, like the Pinacate Beetle, because it likes similar things. But that would get taken over by unpleasant flies too 😑

Note: The drain off liquid, when diluted with water, is excellent fertilizer for your plants. Also, the frass, which is the goo left over from the "food" that the larvae eats is excellent food for earthworms to process that frass even more! The earthworms create castings, which is also excellent fertilizer for your plants!
