Growing your own fruit and veg from seed is one of the most rewarding things you can do in a garden!
I’m scared of vermin coming into a garden with growing fruit & veg. It’s bad enough that we had foxes!
Once the chance of frost has passed, you can grow a number of varieties of seed directly outside. Here I show you how to navigate the giant variety of seed packets available so you can choose what works for you and your family. I reveal how to prepare your beds and sow your seeds in neat rows. And finally, how to water them properly so they have the best possible chance in life.
But growing fruit and veg is not just for big gardens! I also have a neat trick for how to do it if you don't have a garden. All you need is room for a 1m planter.
I’ve got the most gorgeous garden thanks to the elderly couple that owned it before me, apple tree, cherry tree and even a fig tree, I feel so lucky. Ive even started to grow my own veg, I never in a million years thought the highlight of my day would be seeing those little sprouts popping up 😂😂❤

This is the best explanation of gardening I have found so far on the internet! Everything he said answered my questions and saying things like “I’ll be here watering for a few minutes” etc is the detail other videos are missing. This is perfect - finally someone I can learn from!! Been desperate to start but other videos have been confusing!

@lilaclilly198Wish we'd have seen this two weeks ago when it was posted - it's our first year growing veg. New raised beds, decent enough size, kids all excited. Rookie mistake number 1 - planting out all the carrot seeds at once. Same with the potatoes. You live and learn I suppose - in a few weeks I'll be asking the internet "what do I do with a glut of veg!?" So glad you're on youtube.

@patstephenso7206Anyone out there,can you suggest any veg that the muntjac won’t eat? So far all my tulips , all my roses and various shrubs have been attacked, plus the bark has been stripped from other plants. It has become much worse lately, I think a lot of folks think they are cute, and probably encourage them, grr.

I like the real time aspect of this series. As at Alan's, we are just seeing tulips here in New Hampshire, the leaves on the trees are just starting to pop, and we are layered up for outdoor work 🧤🥀

Especially loving the advice about topping the multipurpose compost in a raised container with seed compost to give a gentler start for the seeds ~ a real top tip! 🌿🥦🥔🥕🧅🌺. Would love to hear a few anecdotes along the way on how you started off with your love of gardens/gardening, growing flowers & veg, and garden design. In the overly-busy world that now surrounds us this re-connection with the land/soil/plants is becoming even more vital. Thank you.
@JoannaLouise200I love to watch your videos. I too am a native of West Yorkshire, but much higher up than Ilkley at about 900ft above sea level, and we are about the same age.
I don't have much luck with vegetables, except runner beans, peas, lettuce. As vegetables are my favourite food, and I have only a very small garden, I have decided to only grow the veg (like runner beans and peas) that grow upward and take no space! I do like those white and glass cloches that I noticed in the background. Although they look antique, I see such cloches can be bought now and, for the benefit of anyone reading this, are advertised as Square Victorian Cloches.
