No loose screws here! It was apparently way too tight and that’s what caused the friction between the top of my door and the frame

I see that this post is really old so I’m not sure if you will answer our question. Our door latch is not latching so if you pull the door shut, it isn’t enough for it to actually latch on the strike plate so it will just push open the top of the door. Looks like it’s further away than the bottom of the door not on the side that you’re showing, but where the strike is that holds the door in the frame. Hope you can help us.

Who ever built my house was a moron.. and the door is bowed in the center.. also painted over the screws with I swear the worlds thickest paint . None of these tricks in any of the videos helped ..

Our door won’t close at all. Re hung an old door. 8ā€ opening and that’s as far as it will go. Any ideas?

I recently added a child/pet gate on a bedroom doorway.I ended up removing it a few days later.The bedroom door opened and closed fine before the gate,but now it won't close.It hits on the top.The screws were all tight.Any thoughts?Thanks in advance.Also forgot to mention the top hinge plate is slightly recessed into the jam,whereas the middle and bottom hinges are flush with the jam.Do I need to shim behind the hinge plate?

I was gone for a week to visit my grandkids on East coast. I came home to find my pantry door is now sticking at the top. I think my husband probably slammed it too hard. Going to try tip #1. I’m sure that’s the fix I need. You’re a genius! 😻

@thefunnycarpenter what do you if there is framing too close to your door hinges to fit a wrench?

@alangeygan5833
@

Tip #1 handled the issue great. Thank you

@stevensims4534

Duuuuude I tried everything include replacing the hinges! #3 was my last move, had to put the hinge in a vice to get it to bend but god damn if it didn’t do the absolute trick. You are a god send my friend!!

@snwboardr9876

#3 worked like a charm! If tight space is an issue, a 7/16 crescent wrench or similar and a hammer works wonders! Cheers!

We installed a new prehung fiberglass door on our finished porch 2 years ago, then last year it started not wanting to open or shut. When my head stops pounding and my ears aren't throbbing and I can breathe through my nose, I'm going to try this! šŸ¤’šŸ¤§šŸ¤•

Gracias por el video me resulto bastante util.

Holy crap. For whatever reason my door hinges were impossible to bend. Pulled with everything I had., I had to remove the hinges and put them in my vice then smack it with a hammer to get it to move even a little bit. Every video I've seen shows people bending them with barely any force. The builders must have used like, titanium hinges or something.

What if it’s a new door

@LiamStruzik
@

the middle of the house sank a bit and caused 4 doors in the middle of the house all to start rubbing, 2 storage and 2 room doors, so annoying to deal with cause all of the hinges are fully painted over

@voriukaslt4385
@

What if screws are just spinning on the mid and lower jam side, should I use the toothpick method or longer screw?

@javierramos4865

I just finished bending some door side hinge loops on the top hinge of my sagging closet door. Worked like a champ! BZ and TY!

Great video!! Your fixes didn't work for my situation, but this was fun to watch and probably works 99% of the time. For me, the top frame is falling so we are thinking of shaving the top of the door.

Sir, i just have to tell you, you are my hero today. This happened to the front door to my home and i was freaking out because i couldn't close it. You are awesome and you helped more than you know.

@legrindem-her

How about a front door of house with sidelights. Cant use 2.5 inch screws as they will go into sidelights. Knuckle bend?

@stevedenton9900

How about when the striker plate needs to move front to back

I have a question but I want to show you the picture to explain. I had a door slab replaced and they switched hinges. I thing hinges are too big and don’t fit properly. Besides cut out for hinges also too long and uneven. Has a gap where hinges supposed to close. Is there an easy fix or cover?

@joeannharris8785
@

For method 3: what if your hinges are so strong that they strip the screws out of the wood when attempting to bend the hinge?

@alexanderlloyd2396
@

What if it hits at the top portion on the door on the corner?

@geostorm9351
@

My brand new pushing door seems to hane crap hinges. Are new hinges a thing after installing a new door. It was from Lowes, not exactly a store that's gentle with anything. Maybe got dropped on hinges, im not sure but I hane been installing this door about 4 days at this point so I'm now at the point i realize the problem is not that it's my first install. Gap at top above hinge and door hitting side on latch side.

@hgffrank

Our new door had no slot for the hinges so my husband chieseld it out and it wont sit flush nor close.

I’m having this similar problem but with the bottom of the door. Brand new hinges and all

@hecmen7298
@

I just hung a bathroom door which I can’t fully close. I lined up the new door with the old one to make sure I mortised the hinges in the correct spots, the new hinges fit the door and jamb perfectly and lined up just like the old one - but the door makes contact at the top of the jamb in the hinge corner and down the side of the door against the hinge side of the jamb too much to close. It’s pronounced enough I can only reasonably pull it closed to within a few inches of the jamb before I feel I’m stressing the hinges/wood too much. Any ideas on what went wrong and how to fix it?

@the_capedbaldy

Will these work on exterior doors

@TomBudde-y8i

Very helpful, I had to do tip number three and I did use shims to bring the door up from the bottom.

Dude!!! I tried the toothpick trick on the actual latch, not the hinge and it worked!!! But I have a feeling it’s not permanent. What do you think??

Thanks @TheFunnyCarpenter! Tip #3 worked for me. It saved me $75 in handyman repair charges. You are making a difference in the world. God bless you!
