How to Deal with Apathy

Video Overview & Insights

Most people experience feelings of apathy from time to time. It is when this apathy is persistent and affects many different areas of life that it becomes a significant problem.

Identifying 5 categories is useless. It's like identifying 5 sizes of tires. smh.

Don’t listen to this! Apathy will set you free! It’s a natural feeling you get when ish is f’d up in your life. Embrace it!

I don’t know if it’s apathy or anger

I’m just tired of everything, of caring, of getting my hopes up, I don’t expect bad things to happen but I’m not surprised when they do, but I’m so easily ticked off, willing to argue over the most dumbest of reasons, and then halfway through I realize I just don’t care, why engage respectfully when you don’t care

I don't care and I don't want to care. I only clicked on this video to comment this😐

Its not depression for me though. I’d say I was apathetic ever since I was little. Nothing interested me, my family would try to make me laugh and I wouldn’t budge. The things that are supposed to be entertaining don’t entertain me. I can’t even hold conversations because I nothing anyone says intrigued me.

My behavioral apathy is so terrible that I got to this video by searching "why battle apathy?" Instead of "what" and "how." I've discovered I'm a bystander too.

I think overattachment to stuff can cause apathy because your brain will try to find ways to become even more satisfied than before and more often than not it is not possible.

General apathy and compassion fatigue.
Someone is mad at me, idc. At this point I’m used to being ashamed and misunderstood from mental health and how that may affect my behavior and thoughts.
Oh something major just happened, I don’t have the mental energy to worry about anyone else…something is always happening

One thing after the next is happening with family. And they’re the only ppl I know bc I’ve been isolated from anyone else and I’m shy. So atp I don’t even respond (apathy) as a form of protecting myself, and being used to dysfunction

Apathy has been a relief for me. I think my mind got so tired of worrying about sht and other peoples problems that it has begun to shut down at any sign of it. I welcome it. It has given me incredible relief from the anxiety that has haunted me. I’d rather be completely apathetic than filled with anxiety. It is what it is.

It’s funny that I’ll watch something like this and it won’t be directly related to the video, but I’ll still end up getting what I need. It’s like going to an AA meeting, barely paying attention, and you figure out what you need to do. Thanks.

Edit: The short version of what I figured out was in line with the winner effect. I didn’t feel like going after any wins though. I thought about indulging in a hedonistic activity, but really didn’t even want to do that much, and then I counted to 5, opposite of Mel Robbins’ technique to countdown, because there’s no anxiety so I don’t actually need it for that, but it helped me complete something, a win. Then I counted to 10. Another win. Started chanting God’s name. Another win. Then I thought about pranayama. I just kept building from there, and even sharing this with y’all is another win. Funny thing is I’ve been building a way for my students to process their emotions and I’ve been moving just fine for a good while without any issues, and then I just didn’t feel like doing anything. I think I was possibly feeling overwhelmed without realizing it.

I did some EFT tapping right before, which I still found useful because I know it gets both sides of the brain talking to each other.

For some reason these pieces of advice irritate me and make me feel hopeless and disappointed. It’s like ā€œI know it’s good to take small steps, but what steps exactly? Towards what? What should I do with my life in general?ā€. Changing my routine is a nice thing, but sometimes I just DON’T want to do anything. Has anyone experienced that, and if yes, what would your recommendations be?

Seems like my problem is not apathy, but rather something else. Or maybe I don’t understand something.

Sometimes I feel like apathy is just the will to live a simple life without any changes....I feel apathetic towards approaching people, socializing, go outside in general....this was probably because I grew up in a household where everything was timely even in the worst days

I value your video and its information. However I wish there were no typos or accidents in your speel with the captions.

Two spotted the description of 5 types of apathy. ' Poor' is written twice.

The caption writes intervene in the 5th type...whereas you say interfere...I'm sure there are more...I just lost interest after witnessing these.

I write only because you have a valuable presentation that isnt upheld by these errors.

I’m not sure why apathy is even considered a bad thing! I have come to the realization that perhaps apathy is the best thing to happen to me! I think this world is full of contradictions and places too much unrealistic expectations on people hence people either endure suffering for the rest of their life and fake it until they die living a lie that everything is alright that life was purposeful or they can surrender and accept by coming to the realization that life is not designed to have any meaning or purpose and such ideas are self centered considering we are merely tiny specs in comparison to the entire universe so we are no different than the ants 🐜 we step on! Apathy has made me realize that all efforts are usually wasted in vain for pursuits designed to fail or are unsustainable to maintain in the long run. I noticed the day I stoped caring and went with the flow my life was actually giving much better results than trying to achieve the unachievable! Apathy is a negative label used by those who want to continue an exploitive system by allowing to enforce the expectations of others hence happiness will always be temporary at best. This World is waking up and apathy is showing up in many forms such as the ā€œquiet quittingā€ movement in the workplace and declining birth rates as more young adults are not motivated to have kids. Of course it’s the interests groups such as employers and government agencies that rely on pension distributions making the complaints about this not because they care about your well-being but because their self interest is not being fulfilled at the expense of your suffering! I’ve accepted to live my life until I naturally die but only under the condition that I will live it with apathy and going with the flow! No longer caring about the expectations of this strange world! I honestly think life is just like prison and by choosing to live I just see it as serving my time in prison until death comes to take me! We weren’t given the conscious freedom to decide if we wanted to be born or not but was forced to whether we like this life or not!

It is too hard to concentrate on this 5 minute video.... I tried, but I cant. My eyes wander off to a white wall and my brain turns the sound off.... And even if I manage to keep my eyes on the screen, I don't understand shit... Is this apathy... idk... I am so fkin tired of life, it is just exhausting af and no fun at all. I just wanna sleep all day everyday.

Routines may help people with Parkinsons get through a day and a week. Also many people with Parkinsons with clinical apathy also have executive functioning problems so breaking big tasks into a sequence of small steps is impaired. This is a barrier as well.
