I find it so great that you mentioned Stone Zoo as one of your examples because it is literally my "go to zoo"! I live about 30 minutes away and when I just need to work with my camera or catch a break from daily chores, I can zip down there and spend a bit of time with the birds or sitting a spell with the otters and colobus monkeys. It has such a small footprint compared to other zoos like Southwick or Roger Williams, but it is immensely popular in part because of the variety of animals. Thanks for bringing it up as inspiration for the beginning of a zoo!

Then I was shocked to see the Stone Zoo get a shout out since I grew up in Stoneham and drive by that zoo everyday on my way to and from work! It is nice to see our little zoo get some nice attention! ❤

In the park where I go *, the pink flamingos are not at the entrance, but are in an aviary with two or three other “birds”. This means we can move around inside (there's enough space to keep them away from us), and one day I was able to leave with a feather I'd found on the ground! So happy.

pro tips: if you want your foliage to look more realistic you can gadually sink the foliage so the lets say you do this with grass. the you would place one that is completely on the ground then you would place more around it but those would be sunk slighly into the ground and then another circle around that thats sunk even more. this helps nicely simulate the grass spread. you have to have grass to make seeds for the new grass... the new grass will be shorter than the initial one. also adding some dead bushes into exhibits with herbivore animals also helps simulate the animals eating the foliage. and for big cats you can pain pacing paths with the terrain tool since big cats do have a tendency to walk around in the same places thus creating paths... so you can paint dirt paths in the areas the cats would use the most

Only if planet zoo had macaws or parrots they’d be the best welcoming animal because they SCREAM and they are quite unexpected

My local zoo (Zoo Boise) has Lar Gibbons as the entrance animal as well. However that's set to change as we're at the very beginning of a massive expansion. Once the first phase is done, it will be Magallanic Penguins/Inca Terns. They might bring in Brown-footed Boobies with them. Years down the line when the expansion is complete, there will be a second entrance with splash pads and Flamingos.

Our closest Zoo in Hannover has Guineapigs at the entrance ... pretty cute

This video is helpful for almost any zoo building game. Decided to use this with Prehistoric Kingdom and turns out, if you’re making a modern zoo, Velociraptor might be the best choice due to it being over confident and cute. The habitat was based on penguin habitats because I view penguins as good starters too!

7:18 I wanted to add that from what I've heard online there are some places where flamingos are allowed to "free-roam" and are fully able to fly around. I've heard they won't fly to far if they feel like the zoo is already a good home for them! Thats defintly my head cannon when I ever i use them!

At my zoo where I live I have flamingos and they have basically a summer house when it’s winter season but I would understand if this zoo is like in Florida or a warmer area

4 months late but Edinburgh Zoo has meerkats at their entrance which I think fits the active category pretty well
