How to CHOOSE A SPECIALTY | 6 Steps
Video Overview & Insights
Choosing a specialty is one of the most important decisions you'll make in medical school. Everything from your life during medical school, to your life in residency, to your life beyond residency as an attending physician are all dramatically influenced by this singular decision. This is the systematic way to figure out which specialty is best suited for your personality.
I started off wanting to do GI, then considered Neurosurgery and Orthopedic surgery, but ultimately landed on Plastic Surgery. Here's my journey and thought process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gyqu5AER7gg

I like specialties that focus on very important parts like the heart for example, so in the future I’ll be a cardiologist. 😊

@HiBg-u8tI’m a first-year medical student interested in biotech & surgery.
I was wondering which specialty would be the best for breaking into biotech (preferably something surgery related)
People underestimate how important comfort is when working long hours in the medical fields. Found something that actually helps—Softgle Comfort
@herlynmartinez99The biggest change in my thoughts of a specialty actually started during my medical clerkship (the final year). Because that is when you actually see patient cases, how to interact with them and how the overall work environment will be like. Now I feel like I need to put a lot more thought before choosing a specialty bcz it's not just about your aspiration but what actually would SUIT you. Even as doctors, we all deserve to be happy while serving our patients and I think it's still ok for us to prioritize ourselves especially when we're down the drain. I do think working with a constant work schedule works the best for me. I thought I might choose pediatrics, but now I feel like I need to put a lot more thought into that one. But I might be exaggerating bcz seeing things from an intern point of view will always be worse than when you actually become a doctor. Anyways, I'm hoping for the best for myself. And I wish the best for others aspiring to become doctors.
@NithyaShree-j7vHaven't graduated highschool😢
@JanewambuiNjugunaGreat advice for engineering, too!
@monicaperez2843Hey I’m thinking of becoming an immunologist, as I’m in love with how vast and interesting and complex the immune system is , but that field is rarley mentioned so how do I know if it’s right for me?
@YazhiniKiruthikaVijayYou don't have to pass PG exam to enter into post graduation? All you need is to choose what you want to be? Really?
@meghneelishaanI first wanted to be a pediatrician and then I wanted to be a physical therapist and now I want to be an anesthesiologist when I grow up. (Bruh, I'm still in Middle school but will graduate soon.😭💀)
@CJGG_SMAI wanted to be paediatrician from when i was 12/13. Now I am about to turn 15 and I felt like my dream was fading away and I was in doubt if paediatrics was for me.
Thanks to this video Now I am clear that paediatrics is just right for me. For some reasons life feel more energetic now.♡
Idk I'm confused between psychiatry and IM. I like medicine but i also prefer psychiatrists' work life balance.

@joosepkunderI really envy those people that before collage they studied in a technical medical school or had premed (varies from country to country but are the equivalents) as most enter with a lot of knowledge and already know sometimes what specialty they wanna do….while me i just entered cause fuck it now im on third semester i dont know what specialty but im loving it !
@cottonuwu3167I thought I was the only one watching this without even graduating secondary (high) school
@OineYaroI have been watching this channel for years now. I just got into medical school and I'm so excited for the future!
@alvinsphanThank you for this. I’m a BSN graduate thinking of pursuing into med school. I love researching things also the pathophysiology. I want indirect patient care most likely my intuition is right pathology is the one! Also I can pick fellowship in dermapathology and medical microbiology? Coz I really wanted to treat people’s hormonal acne and other skin conditions hard to treat with just simple facial treatment
@Musouka18i really want to be a trauma surgeon/ work in emergency, but i'm so scared im gonna vomit immediately 😅
@santos2998Fun fact India’s top med college on of the best in world AIIMS offers MBBS for under 100$ or 6000₹

@ivygracelaneWatching medical videos like this at age of 36 and want to pursue my dream to become one
@QueenanneMI'm in MBBS first year I want to become an Obstetrician and Gynecologist
@WOLVERINE-h1sI’m 15, I love the idea of helping people and preforming surgeries. I prefer to use my hands. I’m very persistent, I have a hard working ethics in what I’m passionate about. Ive recently been questioning whether or not I want to be a general surgeon or a neurosurgeon. I love both Ideas although general surgeons aren’t usually in the OR most of the time which I prefer the OR and the atmosphere. Although being a neurosurgeon scares me I don’t want to do something wrong and be burnt out. I am a very passionate person. I don’t want to give up I want to be the best surgeon possible. Saving lives has always been a strong interest but I need an outside view and other peoples experience in both fields. If anyone can give me information on both I would appreciate that! Also if you have any book recommendations on both would be appreciated! Another thing is university’s i want to study abroad in Germany although I’m not sure which school and which one offers the courses in English (although I am learn German)and education programs I need to become a surgeon. Any advice on that would also be helpful to me!!
@AneurysmmmI want to become and Obstetrician and Gynaecologist I’m only 11 but I believe that this specialty is the one for me!
