Victron products are notorious for overheating even when they have a heat sink. Best to not have it inside a plastic box without circulation. The manufacturer says it needs air circulation.

Just going to put it out there, as a 3-ish yr subscriber, your videos now are pretty meh - stop flogging all the shite, i get you're trying to monetize your business, - your top viewed videos are about growing - why pivot? I subscribed for the stuff you were delivering, not the rubbish you now make

Thanks for the great videos! I notice you have a large pond behind you. Can you use a similar setup for aquaponics using the pond and pumping the pond water rather than a fish tank?

Note: the agm system will still work if the battery's crap out.. ie sun on panel makes power runs pump not storage... The lithium batteries both use more power (on board PC that has temp controls) but will also NOT allow any power flow from panel to controller if the battery bricks or fails for some reason..

In your future I see an DWC setup on a trailer to pull behind your rig so you can have all the fresh produce you want while out fishing and camping.
Some guy on the side of the road as you go by...."Does that guy have a dragon fruit tree on the back of his camper? And is that a bee hive next to the still, WTF!"

If you're "off-grid", then why bother with hydroponics? Plants grow just fine in dirt...
Hoochos explores the worlds of Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Permaculture, Homesteading, Fermentation, Technology and DIY Builds to look at the world through a larger lens that can incorporate the best of everything into a rich and rewarding lifestyle.
Through self sufficiency we can reduce consumption and increase our hyperlocal household production.
Great video! Glad to see you doing the solar stuff. I built a small 1800w system on 48v lead acid (4x100ah with inverters in series)on victron gear and lived off it for three years with my wife. I wish people understood how effective a change in power usage could change reliance on so much power. We still had a washing machine, xbox, computers etc. so much is possible now! Looking forward to your results video!

great video, I learned a lot, Ive always wanted something like this but it isn't very budget friendly for me, and I'm kinda worried about how long it would last out in the elements so I'm probably not gonna try this, but I learned a lot about running pumps off solar and battery so cheers for explaining it in an easy way to understand.

Just a quick q, is PVC food safe? You mentioned the NFT trays were food safe (can we get those in the U.S.?), but you're using PVC pipe and glue. The Internet doesn't give me a straight forward answer.
Cool project!

Great video! I've been messing around with speccing out a bike generator battery setup. The dream being: motivation to exercise since the plants won't grow if I don't go, and then you get the tangible benefit of healthy crops from all your effort! Would be AMAZING, but it seems that the numbers just aren't there with current tech. (although I'm a total novice and could be making all sorts of calculation mistakes)
That could make a great video if you'd want to dig in (pedal in?) deeper!

Personally 12v pumps should be more available than they are. Low voltage is nice for various use cases.

Nice setup. I have a solar powered hydro setup without all that fancy stuff. I use a solar powered pond pump and use 5 gallon buckets with overflow spigots about 4 inches from the bottom. The water spritzes the perlite in the buckets and the reservoir at the bottom of the buckets store water if the pump is off more than a day or so.

If you have personal queries about hydroponics or other matters please join me on the Hoocho’s facebook group and there are a lot of friendly helpful likeminded people that may have answers for you.
1. I love your videos. 2. Batteries aren't cheap. Let's assume the battery you have there costs $1k. How many times can you charge and discharge? Will this battery last 1 year? Not to mention buying all the other equipment, is it economical to do this? I wrote this before watching, and I am watching to get the answer to these, because I have a battery, solar panels and bought the cheap hydroponic equipment...wondering if it's a fire risk plus would be more expensive than buying from the market.

Yay, I hope you have a great day Hoocho :)
Also, consider repurposing old laptop batteries in series or old EV batteries. I saw a tiny home in Australia use these to power their tiny home :)
