How to make a Chicago hotdog, hotdog recipes
i make them with regular pickel relish( sweet or dill) mustard and jelapino slices and tomato slices with celery salt YUM
Here is the 3rd video in my "Hot Dog" series, and in this video I show you how to build and authentic original famous "Chicago Hot Dog"! If you have a hard time finding the ingredients, like I did to make these delicious famous dogs, then you can order anything you need strait from the Vienna Beef Co. website:
http://www.viennabeef.com/
If yer ever in Chicagoland, make sure to visit a Portillo's restaurant. A lot of great choices including the best Chicago style hot dogs you've ever had.
You could also check out an actual Vienna Beef restaurant. Those are dotted all around Chicago.
If pizza sounds good, Chicago style deep dish pizza is to rave about. I prefer Lou Malnati's near Midway Aiport on Cicero. Giordano's is really good, too.
Can't get much better than great Chicago food and watching our beloved Cubbies.
Ingredients
Frankfurters 4 (All beef ones, natural casings)
Don't know where you get the idea that you need poppy seeds. Or the neon relish. I grew up on depression dogs. No tomatoes or dill pickle. And they don't put it together like you did. A line of mustard. A line of relish opposite. Then the onions, topped by the peppers. As long as you've got quality ingredients, you can do it.
Me, I use chipolte mustard and slivers of habanero with a quality relish. ( undyed)
Poppy seed bun 4 (Chicago style)
Mustard sauce 4 Tablespoon
I can get those online. But here in Maine we get Kayem dogs made in Massachusetts. I get the pork dogs with the natural casing and they are good.
Relish 8 Tablespoon (Chicago style)
Finely chopped sweet onion 4 Tablespoon
wow. I love, love Chicago Dogs. Ty. A must try
Tomato wedges 8
Kosher dill pickle 4
I’m glad too see you didn’t skimp on these dogs the way you did the Coney Island hotdog sauce.
Green chili peppers 8 (Vienna, Sport style)
Celery salt To Taste (Vienna)
I live in Cleveland OH and we have Stadium Ballpark mustard which is bit spicy. Rus, have you ever tried Stadium Ballpark mustard?
Directions
MAKING
My hat’s off to you, good sir! True to its origin down to the radioactive-green relish! Thank you!
1. Steam the frankfurters and hotdog buns.
2. Slit the buns and place a frankfurter in the middle. Squirt mustard sauce uniformly.
Chicago dogs are the best way to enjoy a proper hot dog.
3. Put relish, tomato onion, sports peppers and celery salt over the sausage. Tuck a couple of tomato wedges on one side and dill pickle on the other. Repeat with the other buns.
SERVING
Looks delicious. 🌭🌭
4. Serve as it is and enjoy.

You really can't find Celery salt in Mississippi? I'm in Alabama and it's in EVERY store here. Now poppy seed buns, no. Vienna hot dogs, no. But to buy them from Vienna and have them shipped is insane$. Sport peppers are readily available everywhere. How much did it cost you- per dog- to make these? Sabrett hot dogs are pretty close and sold at Publix. Much cheaper option, and damn near the same. I lived near Chicago for 27 years and grew up eating Portillos. My substitutions are good enough and won't cost too much

Yep, nothing like a Chicago style hot dog. Bet you paid a pretty penny for all that Vienna Beef brand products. The peppers were the only thing worth buying. I grew up on depression dogs. No tomatoes, no dill pickle spear. And sesame seeds, overated.

Chicago born and raised here. Great job. You did them right. I have seen dozens of “Chicago Dog” videos and most of them miss one or two important ingredients. For me I have to have a steamed bun, vienna dog, neon relish and celery salt. Without them it’s just a hot dog. You nailed it. I hope your wife enjoyed them too. :)

brother, that looks AMAZING! My mouth is watering and I gotta have one or two!

Yes. Chicago style baby!
@KennyCz87Being from Missouri I guess I'm just stubborn. I would rather have it the way I want it than worry about being authentic. Lived in E Chicago for a while. Love the area, love the food, not a Vienna fan. Definitely not a steamed hotdog fan. They make charcoal grills for a reason. They're better! And I prefer Nathan's 1/4 lb dogs. Otherwise I'm with you. I prefer purple onions and more of them. I guess I prefer Chicago a style hotdogs 😉 I was solo happy the Cubbies won the WS the year following my Royal winning it. And... just checked the scoreboard and we beat the whitesox today 6-1! Ha! YES!
@gregrichards1601Wrong pickle. Needs to be the dill without the added green coloring. Tastes much better. Clausens would be a good choice.
@JV-mw7gvNot a real Hot Dog, lol
@SiriusSamWhere do you get the poppy seed buns? Can't find them in any of our stores.
@NoLikeCheeseChicago dogs usually have a few bullet holes in them to be authentic
@bob_the_plumberNothing better than a Chicago dog.
@Rob-n8m-o2vThx
@MrshazelbuttIf you ask for ketchup on yer Chicago dog, yer liable to get it thrown atcha !!! NEVER ask fer ketchup on a Chicago dog !!! Looks guud Rus !!!
@markisom5971Great video sir! I really miss those Chicago Hotdogs 😢 haha. I just need to get/order those ingredients and make my own haha. Cheers.
@smnvox109Yummy yummy 😋 that looks delicious 😊😊
@carolynmathison4981Awesome video.
@heyyoohallI love the sports peppers. Actually, they're pretty healthy. Mostly vegetables. I love them. Good job!
@telecasterlvrI used what I could find at the store as well but I used banana peppers instead of sport peppers and had to use some regular sweet relish, celery salt, nice tomato’s. I also used 1/4 lb colossal 100% all beef hotdogs made by Nathan’s that were cooked on the grill. The poppy seed bun’s, yellow mustard. I’am allergic to raw onions so I can’t use them. But YO, that hot dog was 🔥
@johngraves9158Damn straight bro. Gotta have that snap!
@UncleBuck560It’s mind blowing how hard it is to find the ingredients needed to make this. Once you get it all, you are looking at $50… it’s a damn shame.
@kp4588you have all your teeth..I dont...lol..
@fredbiden868I miss original sabrett hot dogs
@SmoodyLadyLoungeLooks like a butt burner! No thanks…
@mollyn.1635So being a lifelong Chicago resident and growing up as a kid getting hot dogs off the street cart (can't find these anymore in CHI 😞) you've reminded me of trips to Sears at 6 corners (CHI folks will know exactly where that was) with my grandfather and getting precisely what you have built here! For a brief moment I thought you were going to forget the celery salt but NO!! You nailed it! Well done video too!
@tjnaevansI need this in my life.
@801guitar3This is so cute and i LOVE it. Life long 4th gen Chicagoan here and you did it perfect. I have tried every "Chicago Dog" in every city and it's true, it is very hard to find these ingredients, especially poppy seed buns, sport peppers and celery salt. But it is 100% necessary. Also of course 100% beef Vienna dogs. Thanks for doing this!
@ExcitedaspiderWell played, sir.
@VulcanLogicMakes you want to move out of the south and become a Democrat live in the 21st ward
@frankpappalardo630😢 There’s nothing like a true Chicago hot dog with all the original seven
@frankpappalardo630I am from Detroit and I visited Chicago and my cousin took me to a place for a Chicago dog... i can say years later I wont eat a hot dog unless its a chicago dog.. I actually order the kit from Vienna beef at least once a month lol
@debonaireslotsLove me a Chicago Dog!❤
@AvaPotterfieldandFriendsYup you nailed it even down to the celery salt and no ketchup. Nice job from a Chicago guy
@EJ-ge4stHe hid the Glizzy!!!😂
