How Spain’s Greed Collapsed Its Empire
Video Overview & Insights
Spain’s Golden Age was fueled by New World treasure — but that same gold led to its collapse. Discover how endless wealth brought debt, decline, and the fall of a once-mighty empire.
funny when an ancient Spanish ship with gold is found, Israel lays claim on it. Also, expelling the jews were among the smartest things they did at the time, things calmed on usury and interest rates as well as preventing the influence to begin mass importing people that may have been hostile to the Spanish way of life.

Spain want a colonial empire it was an imperial empire. And only 1/5 of the gold and silver went to Spain. 1/3 went to China and India the rest stayed in the viceroyalties
Simple history gives you the facts, simple!

I see the United States making similar mistakes. We should be investing in renewable energy, we've abandoned our farmers for Argentinian soybeans, and so much government money is just simply lost, embezzled, or given to an "allied" country (so their citizens have a higher quality of life). We could have had a utopia.

Spain's greed? In 1492, the Americas were the most indigenous place in the world. By 1800, Spain had integrated all of Spanish America into the modern Western world, with a 70% economic reinvestment (rising to 80% in the 18th century). 25 universities, 2,000 stone cities, 850 hospitals, 400 cathedrals, 300 fortresses, thousands of kindergartens, and a massive mix of races. That's why Spanish has 490 million native speakers, more than the entire Commonwealth plus the USA plus all the French who speak English and French as their native languages, combined = 475 million. 800 million Catholics thanks to Spain. 120 million Anglicans. Essentially, the British, Dutch, and French empires siphoned almost all the wealth from India, Africa, and Indonesia to London, Amsterdam, and Paris until the 20th century. Furthermore, while Queen Elizabeth I of Spain declared in 1500, "I want the Spanish men and women to marry and form families with the inhabitants of the new lands," the British and Central European empires embraced social Darwinism in the 19th and 20th centuries: "The indigenous and dark-skinned races are inferior, and we should not mix with them." This explains why India has only 0.006% native English speakers and 1% Christians. The Spanish Philippines, with its 7,000 islands, has 3% Spanish and Creole speakers and 82% Catholics. The British burned crops across large regions of India to plant cotton for the British textile industry, causing seven famines with 20-30 million deaths in the 19th and 20th centuries. Hundreds of thousands of British children aged 5-12 lived in virtual slavery during the 19th-century Industrial Revolution, working in coal mines for endless hours, sometimes for a pittance. This is something the Catholic Church would never have allowed. The money that came to Spain went towards a 200-year war against five European powers. That's why most of Europe is Catholic today.
The first Spanish university in the Americas was in 1538. The first British university in India was in 1857. The only university in the Dutch Empire for 400 years was in Indonesia in 1946 (six years before independence)... Greed? The British still have 20 tax havens that steal money needed for social services in other countries, and the Dutch have tax havens too.

Its inflation that boots an economy
Not reserves.
Pacification won't fix interest rates, debts, and inflation.
Nor will diversion. 😂

So Spain was forced to borrow from the powerful European banking houses. So who were they? And how did they get their money?

It boggles the mind, being a frugal spender myself, when I hear about past rulers governing their countries finances like a financially illiterate person with low willpower who's living paycheck to paycheck and any extra money is immediately spent on dumb stuff.

It is pretty loosely tied to the facts. Description of the downfall imho overlooks entire decades if not almost century.

@camiamproducerThat stolen gold was cursed no doubt.
@John_QTotalmente falso ,lo que provocó la caída del imperio español fue por culpa de la perfida Albion ,las conspiraciones internas y los políticos liberales

@midlanticmarinecenterSo now it's clear why my country is currently suffering the same scenario as the Spanish history (The Philippines): corruption, export/foreign investment dependency, and even values and behaviour were really running in the blood of my fellow countrymen (majority) in which resulting that mostly political persons/monopoly are getting richer while the ordinary people suffers more in the poverty state, without also a justifiable wage earning.
