How our brain judges people in a split second | DW Documentary
Video Overview & Insights
Friend or foe? In a fraction of a second, our brain forms an impression of a person based on their facial expressions and voice. And artificial intelligence is getting better and better at interpreting human emotions.
My 80-year-old mom has no idea who Ted Bundy is. But when a lineup of suspects flashed on the TV and I asked her to pick out the killer, she pointed right at Bundy.
Faces and voices are the first impressions we get of people we don’t know. In less than half a second, we decide whether we like or trust a person, and how intelligent we think they are. That’s thanks to the astonishing processing power of our brains. We learn to read facial expressions as babies, and as we grow older we continue to interpret emotions according to facial expressions. The voice also plays a crucial role: speed, syntax, tone, and phonetics all provide information about what a person is feeling.
But we are not the only ones who can decipher human emotions. Artificial intelligence technology is also learning to read faces and voices. A photo or a spoken sentence is usually enough to get information about identity, health, emotions and even personality. And the internet has become a vast and ever-growing database of faces and voices. Based on the sound of a voice, artificial intelligence can now detect whether a person suffers from Parkinson's, depression or even Covid-19. In this documentary, international experts offer insight into the latest science, illuminating how our brains work -- and the potential of artificial intelligence.
as soon as we encounter someone new, we immediately attempt to establish whether they are with us or against us. this sentence is really impressive

People always ask me for help. But dogs approach me and are very friendly with me too. I can only say there's, maybe something else, vibrations?

I think the voice is at least just as important than the face. But people lie with their voice tones too.

I find Gabriel's voice way more unpleasant than the robot Fur Hat's and especially the way he speaks to it, without any greeting, please or thank you, and giving it only blunt commands.

I looked a bit more crude with cables sticking out of my head.
But the scientific World takes a slightly dinner view
good
@Wunder-c1hVery interesting program, and would be more helpful if the narrator didn't continually misplace us humans as some kind of non animal and even worse as a non primate species.
@Prometheus_43How will this technology be used? And what are the ethical preconditions for the use of this technology?
@kommacoachingIt is conditioned, a conditioned response. Like watching a horror film, you've been conditioned to expect a certain type of music. ALL your mind says is a conditioned response.
As soon as the mind moves it becomes conditioned.
I love biochemistry. Remove politics business religion and ethics - replace with carbon hydrogen phosphorus and oxygen - then you get the truth of how the molecules work in a human and what is best for us.
@kevinrichardson3790I was raised according to two religions in my childhood: German and Turkish. As I grew older, I understood that the unification of these two religions was impossible, and I learned about all religions, whichever they may be, and realized that they are a factor that leads to racism. After that, looking at myself and everyone else solely from a human perspective, I understood that we are all the same, and I freed myself from racism. The reason why all people cannot unite and become one humanity is racism. And religions create racism. I am certain that those who teach religions to prevent people from uniting are aliens. Their intentions are clearly obvious.
@selcukpamuk1116As an Arabian man, I feel most western countries look at us as a criminal people as they usually compare us as people of war and lack of education and knowledge 😢 why such a harmful stereotypes they have .
@nil-o4rI will never judge people with first impression 😂😂😂❤.
I always take a time to understand people 😉❤
Do not rely on first impressions.
@lloydclement2152You will never get a second chance for first impression. That's why how you look defines what you get in your life. And sadly it comes with genes.
@onur4455Yes by non verbal communication , you could judge any people.
@subratmitra5956Of course Germans would build a robotic human looking machine
@supermario929I don't have problem with face but sometimes if i talk with father even when i was actually just saying normally
Sometimes he think i was being irritated (because sometimes my voice got higher normaly)
Yet i was feeling i was just talk normaly
In islam perspective, wife of umar ibn khattab does have more high, rasp sound...
Talking high to umar .... Does it wrong? No, because they born with it...
Oh I was gonna watch this video, it sounded interesting but there is a picture of a black woman on the thumbnail so it's obviously meant for a different demographic.
@mimilookamie8019Not really. You get a gut feeling regardless of what the face looks like. You go with the gut.
@ErritaeThey are missing one very important factor. Emotions.
@tonybello8163I'm certain that it is less about the other person and more of our state of mind. For example, I came back to my hometown after 8 years away and I was simply loving the city. A few months later, the reality came. It was me, not them. So yeah, it's them, not me.
@dinahnascimentoThe Halo effect. The 1st impression we perceive from others ends up clouding our judgement.
@mefumpeYou Always Notice A Persons Looks First . AND In A Relationship You Must Be The Same Level of Attractiveness OR Your Relationship Will FAIL . FACTS TRUTHS
@OptimisticSatellite-zn1ynLose the music
@steinarbruun3852Keep trying. You'll never get some of us to believe that😂
@moonogginWe're not animals and didn't evolve from primates...
We're human beings made by God with the ability to reason, choose, love, and communicate.
We're so complex in many ways, why is it so hard to give credit where it's due?
To more about our Creator, read the Bible today.
Absolutely worth watching. SUPERB!
@ImanAsad-w4u4cis the robot a generative AI?
@0xFF87CEEBAs it says the first impression is the last impression but is true according let's reasech reached at the their anomaly between two decision make some times not satisfying.
@IqbalUmar-u3nThe older I get with more wrinkles between my eyes I notice I get judged quicker even by those familiar with me. It's harder to put on a smile but so necessary. The problem I deal with is low energy to project what doesn't feel the same inside for other reasons than the interaction.
@GodisLove1Cor13Imagine this knowledge impaired into AI...
@andrealopezsiLike this video if you support future robot maid.
@thuanminhnguyen3505It's me, I can see their personality
@janganmenyerah121Don't cover a judge from the book!
@KingKong_CHBut I'm sorry we shouldn't judge by people's appearance I know that but I have and I try not to but I have
@DeniseSkinner-z9dI don't like judging people by their appearance but I have been guilty of it matter of fact I just well I had four people and I could be wrong but they were scary looking I usually can look in their eyes to see what kind of person they are and I didn't like the look I had received so I'm guilty for judging as well
@DeniseSkinner-z9dNot everyone judges someone instantly, especially if you are an educated, intelligent and sensible person...then you don't judge a book by its cover, the moment you see the person.
@ArranVidIn seconds ...
I knew this sucked.
My first impression was accurate.
Good thing I'm face-blind🫠
@AcidGubbaA dumb person judges quickly. Experienced people take time and people with philosophical depth don't judge.
@PatomicalWe're all just flawdd human beings making superficial decisions.
@CollyDoomeanwhile me judging these scientists the second their face shows up
