How motherhood changes your sense of self - BBC REEL
Video Overview & Insights
Part 1: Changing Bodies
This was a great watch and definitely something needed to hear. Looking forward to meeting my baby soon ❤
There are many hidden forces at play that shape a new mother's identity, biology and physical self. Melissa Hogenboom, BBC science journalist and author, explores how bodily change affects our sense of self, and why some women aren't prepared for the changes they undergo during pregnancy.
This is part 1 of 3
I will not have kids. I am 28f and realized with 25. I am perfectly happy to be with myself. Studies show that single women are the happiest women.

I was raised by narcissists (actual disorder, I'm not name calling) and never knew who I was or why I was called weak along with horrible things I'm not mentioning. Having my babies made me see that I'm not weak, I. AM. LOVE. My entire reality changed. It's been 13 years and they are the best kids ever (and so independent!), kind and intelligent only scratch the surface.
@AiyaSGC87Such a strong topic , so happy I found this being a new mom myself!
beatiful nature ONLY WOMEN & MEN !
@carlosdavids777Is this the best time?
@NathanLewis7871The narrator sounds like Maeve Higgins from NPR's "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me."
@drsingingeagle3:17 to skip the intro. Seriously I hate useless uninformative intro so much

The biggest realization - that kid didn't fill that endless void of wants you think will lead to fulfillment. Any more than that need to date, for your boyfriend to be OK with you calling him a boyfriend, or moving in together, or that job, or talking your boyfriend into getting married, that child you HAD to have, that new house now that you had a family, giving up your job as you wanted to spend more time taking care of your kids, getting new drapes and furniture - going back to a job or school because you had to spend time with adults, that affair, nope - none of that somehow managed to fill your insatiable need for more.
@boedillard8807FINDING THE CORRECT QUESTION TO ASK IS FAR MORE PROFOUND THAN SIMPLE CHASING ANSWERS.... FACT
@chrislecky710Stinky logic! Think about what I'm saying. We have been told that without fire humanity would have never had the ability to cook meat. Yet at the stage of the planets climate at that time, it would have been hot enough to dissect and slice up and animal and leave it in directly in the sun light to cook and preserve enough to be edible. flint tools would have ensured that if we were dissecting meat it would have been in pieces small enough to cook and preserve this way. I have not heard of a single example in 40 years that has even considered these facts. Why is that? and why has it taken me today in 2021 to make the entire world aware of this truth?????
@chrislecky710To understand one effectively you must also understand that which it is relative to. Thus far it has not be achieved when considering these type of subjects.
@chrislecky710Sharing this with my only daughter, with whom we share a birthday -- the Motherhood sign of the Zodiac -- Cancerian Crab. Love is the answer.
