My parents put me in a bilingual immersion school when I started kindergarten and it really got me to love learning languages. From day one my teachers didn’t speak a word of English to me (I still had English classes so that I would be literate in English, but those only took up about 20% of the day). I didn’t learn it in the traditional way you would in high school. I learned it exactly how any kindergarten class would go, they’d teach you the alphabet, how to count, read, write etc etc. I didn’t go in and just learn “Hola. ¿Cómo estás? Bien, ¿y usted?” I got pretty near fluent. I wish that I could just find immersion classes easily in my area and just learn a new language. But I still have school and I doubt an immersion classes aren’t is all that cheap. I’m currently trying to learn Korean, and I think it’s going pretty okay. I think already having known a second language definitely helps expand my language learning skills and I’m seriously grateful to my parents for seizing the opportunity to put me in a bilingual school.
It takes me about 10 to 15 hours to learn the languages that I showcase in my videos, and I’ve done this with around 56 languages to date. Obviously that is not going to get me fluent, but it’s enough to have basic conversations and impress people with the little that I do know. To be clear, because you naturally forget languages over time, I do not actually speak 56 languages at any given time, but even if I didn’t forget any of them I would still speak them all at only a basic level. I only speak 3 languages fluently at the moment (English, Mandarin, and Spanish) and my English is WAY better than my Mandarin and my Mandarin is WAY better than my Spanish.

@Bois.de.Boulogne1Can you talk Swedish
@wendytapper-as6079I hate when I get to a minute and a half and still no value was given. 🙄
@shanadumplins84621:52 Sinhalese alphabet 🦁🇱🇰 - main language of Sri Lanka. Looking forward to seeing you speak in Sinhalese one day 😊
@Random-R5I know a lot of people talk down on Duolingo, but it seems like they're teaching me the way you would practice. They just start small and gradually make things harder. The only thing I am doing differently than others is, for example, while learning Japanese, I turned off the English pronunciation text above the hiragana, katana, and kanji. Instead, the kanji shows up with Japanese characters when learning something new. Now I can't hold a sentence, but I'm still fairly new 😅. I just felt the need to say this because I watched a few videos on Duolingo months after trying it, and I saw a lot of bad reviews. I don't want people to get discouraged. Just find something that works for you and run with it.
@justinsalazar7182Hi based department here. This guy is on top of this game. Listen to em

@ZolusamaNo you didn’t
@1anmarket5850hmm, not sure how I missed this video but it now leads me to believe all videos are staged.
@StygianStyxThis is what makes learning conversationally hard to access for me. When you’re just starting out, you’re conversationally useless in the language you’re interested in learning. People don’t want to have conversations with someone who doesn’t have a clue what they’re saying, to learn by speaking horribly the person you’re speaking to has to give you charity. It’d be phenomenal to have a friend that speaks English and Russian (in my case) so that we can always effectively communicate and I can be gradually exposed, however, I’m not just hunting for friends that speak Russian so I can use them. Once you have fluency in a mutual + additional language you can start to learn and teach, but until then, you’re bound to receiving charity work or inconveniently using a translating app.
@ЪЕПI use the same method and I want to tell everyone that it works.
@agust2694I don’t care about the speaking, I got that. It’s the return, the listening that kills me. Easy to say “Hi How are you?” Much harder to hear “I am fine, how are you on this fine day?”
So I know this is a year old, how about you discuss knowing and understanding the language in reverse. when you hear it which is twice as hard as speaking it.
Dam I want to start just speaking languages I’m a teen I don’t have money and I’m just curious what else is there that I could use to gain confidence in my ability of speaking in other languages
@MariahBarney-j5w7hI am Japanese.
I have a question.
If a Japanese person takes a Japanese course,
will he learn English the other way around?
Crazy idea. Teaching someone else a language to conversational level in 24 hrs.
@deleteamanHey there! I'm not sure if you are aware, but I tried to sign up for your magic sentences, but it looks like the link doesn't work after providing my email. I'd love to see what your list of magic sentences are for (Mexican) Spanish.
@roamwithcrystalClickbait title aside, these are solid tips.

@waves1939I was trying to sign up for the newsletter but I select Russian and it directs me to a "non found 404" type of error page, that's disappointing.

@FoxerZYou learn how to memorize them , then forgot all of them , you only speak Chinese
@Elviejofidencio-fs3vb56 languages I need proof
@mrigaanksingh425Going to restart my Chinese this way!
@thinukawijerathneI was reading psalms today and I thought of a new challenge for you. Did you learn Hebrew? It’s the holy language so I’m wondering if you notice something different about it. If you learned Hebrew, could you grab the psalms in Hebrew and make a video about the quality of speaking the “holy tongue” or whatever you discover?!!!
@nemiccolo1australia is a continent have you learnt our indigenous languages
@kj999LLearning to speak a language in a short space of time really isn't that difficult, as long as you don't expect to acquire a large vocabulary, as large say. as your native language vocabulary.
But 'mastering' a language requires much more than just speaking it. You have to understand it when you hear it spoken to you too, oh and don't forget reading and writing as well.
But just putting reading and writing to one side, let's address listening and understanding a foreign language when it's spoken, and spoken quickly as all languages are.
You see, you might learn 100 phrases and be able to reel them off to a foreigner. So far so good. The problem arises when that foreigner replies to you. He'll hit you back with hundreds of words and phrases and grammar that you don't know and don't understand.
That's when all your language confidence will evaporate.
At least when you're face to face with someone you can ask them to 'please speak more slowly' or 'can you repeat that please' or 'I don't understand that'.
Great. But try doing that with a TV show or movie.
IMHO training your brain to understand the spoke language is the MOST difficult part of language learning, and there's no short cut to that, no matter what this 24 hour language learner might like you to believe.
I speak English, Spanish, French and am now learning Persian.
2:31 hard in the way exercise is hard then cuts to a guy jogging 😂
@PoloMoloFruitAnd here I am immersing myself in German everyday, for the past year, and have yet to reach B1 level. 😅
@luisserrano5690Me watching this to practice my Malay foreign language in a week that I found out about just today...😢
@Caden_is-boringHow do you go about finding these people to actually chat with online? Are they tutors or just language pals? @xiaomanyc
@williamhurstactorI learned english by acting like a baby
@JohanLiebrtI wonder what he would say about the Dreaming Spanish method of waiting a very long time to speak or read and only listening for the first 600 hours or whatever amount of time.
@joeyd1234There's a reason why like 100 years ago you had a lot of illiterate people who could speak their native language because they never learned it by reading a textbook or reading at all
@deanchalmers8239How many other professions are you required the same kind of strong foundation building? The best teaching method is by giving absolute basics to beginners, let them experience beginner-level ideas or topics or sentences. Then after getting some experience start explaining the reasons why you do something or why their mistake occurred. Wisdom is a greater teacher.
@jaredholloman5300by the way the join streetsmartlanguages link has some malware/ask you to run command on pc, do not do it if you see this. Xiaomanyc you should check this maybe take it offline if you still have access.
